Oregon, SMU, Texas

Wouldn't it be weird if Oregon, SMU, and Texas all won Conference Titles in their first year in each respective League? To what could that be attributed? Maybe having systems that don't fit the Conference mold and not having a lot of tape to evaluate (in the context of League Play I mean)? Is it some strange anomaly? Not sure what to make of it.

I thought it was appropriate that Indiana thumped UCLA the way they did as a welcome to the B1G. I think it would also be fitting if Penn State ruined the party for the Quack-attack Saturday.

I'm pulling for SMU, not out of some sense of loyalty to the old guard in the ACC, I like SMU to begin with and I don't like Clemson. Complex reasoning, I know.

Lastly I would find it especially funny and satisfying if Texas won the SEC. I don't think any explanation is required here.

A school that received the death penalty in 1987. Literally sat out football for 2 full years.
They were on probation 5 times in 11 years beteeeen the mid-1970s and their penalty. The only school to ever receive the death penalty and they were so egregious with their violations. The funny thing is that the SWC powers became infuriated with SMU landing guys like Eric Dickerson and driving around in new cars and yet, they were doing the same thing on a much more covert level.
It’s just mind boggling that a school like SMU has now risen from the ashes to get to the playoffs. Almost as mind boggling as IU getting there as the one school with the most losses in D1 history. Absolutely nuts.

Do a quick Google search of SMU nil money and you'll find no shortage of articles about where all their money is coming from and it's a lot of damn money.

They might have more money than anyone in the SEC. Purdue guys want him but we all know they don’t have nearly enough NIL to get a guy like that. It’s funny nobody knows about SMU money.

Lets see ... program shut down for two years for paying players and they are in Dallas ... Dallas has tons of money as you know. This SMU situation does not surprise me. The only thing my old brain can't grasp are two words ... ACC and SMU connected.

IMO, I really don't think it's all that weird. I think it has to do with these teams coming in with a different play style, adjusting to their new conference well, and having the horses to do so. When I think about the B1G representatives in the CFP or BCS, those that stuck to the "traditional" B1G style of play often got ROASTED by an SEC team. Only when the upper-level B1G schools start adjusting their play style did they start winning in those games.

Oregon and Texas have generally been top-level schools for a good while now.

SMU is definitely the anomaly, but the ACC as a whole seems sub-par this year, so that may be part of SMU's emergence.

SMU has always been known as a "rich-kids" playground.... tuition is pretty high so the students tend to come from affluent families.... but, it is a pretty decent school.

I always find it funny that a sectarian school, like SMU, would be so strongly associated with being known cheaters...

All of those had pretty easy schedules, except Oregon, as it pertains to their conference games.
