I can't tell you how much wasted time this kind of thing has caused me over the last two or three decades of my life.
I despise images in a word doc for that very reason.
I despise word. And excel. And all of it. I want to go back to handwriting.
One fix that sometimes helps is to put pictures inside of a text box. The text boxes for some reason don't jump around nearly as much as a directly embedded graphic.
A random memory that's kinda good stuff: my grandfather (one who was drafted into WW2) was a postman for a few decades in the 50s and 60s. He died poor. No money to his name, although he still owned his house. It sold for less than $78k in 2017.
When he died, my grandmother tried to give me a bunch of his old clothes. I took three things: (1) a tan, classic Macintosh raincoat that I still wear to this day; (2) an old pair of silver-plated cufflinks that I'm sure he hadn't worn in 40 years; and (3) a navy, polyester tie that he wore every day to deliver the mail.
I wear that tie often to court to remind me where I come from. In fact, I wore it just last month to argue in front of the Second Circuit, and if he was still alive, I think he would have been very proud of me. I'll pass it on to my son and hope he appreciates it some day.
