Only good stuff

I don't know where else to put this so I'll put it here.

My son, who I have written about before, is not a very good athlete. He's slow, bad eyesight, average coordination, now small for his age. He's struggled to find a sport he can be good at--and I realized when he was about 8, while coaching him in baseball, he would never be great at any athletic endeavor.

I'm OK with that. Sports was a part of my youth (although I was never as good as I thought I was) but it doesn't need to be a part of his, except that his peer group really is into sports like mine was, so he feels left out. He's had some rough times with this in the past.

Well, about 1.5 years ago, he says he wants to play hockey. He was 10 at the time (12 now) and didn't know how to skate. Here in Chicago, you learn to skate before you can walk if you want to play hockey. But he really wanted it. So we got him into skating/hockey lessons where he was the oldest in the class by about 4 or 5 years. He graduated each class, bumped up in level, and eventually, last spring, he played on a hockey team. He was by far the worst player, but his coach got him a lot of playing time, and he improved.

Yesterday, was the first game of the fall/winter season. He's still one of the worst skaters on the team, but damn does he try hard. He really goes at it while on the ice. And to my great surprise, he got his first goal of his life yesterday in Hammond, Indiana. It was a one-timer, and tied up the game with a minute left in the 3rd. His teammates mobbed him afterwards. My dad was there to see it and we cheered and high-fived, and I openly wept with joy. Afterwards, my son said it was one of the happiest moments of his life. Yes, I know, this is a game with 12-year-olds--it is ridiculous.

He may never score another goal. He might never make a team other than these house-league teams I'm paying for. But I will never forget that moment or that goal. I know many dads don't get that moment, or some are wrapped up worrying about so much else with their kids, they might fail to appreciate those special, little moments (I'm guilty of this far too often). But right now, I'm just so happy for my son that he feels as if he's accomplished something, and I think that's good stuff.
The absolute best

Good on ya.

I have been teaching my daughter how to drive. We're about 4 months away from when she can get her driver's license. It hit me the other day as we were driving down the road (white knuckled as we approach a roundabout) that it seemed not that long ago that I taught her how to ride a bike without training wheels and now she's learning to drive a car.

Where does the time go?

My daughter learned to ride a bike at 11. In fourth grade she rode in the school parade with training wheels. She did decorate the bike though. Elaborately.

Dude, she really sounds like a future actor or entertainer of some sort. Maybe set design? Mine has no idea what she wants to be which, at 16, is probably a good thing.

Or impregnated by a plumber. Too soon to tell. And yes not knowing at 16 is for sure a good thing. Having to choose so early leads to a lot of buyer’s remorse

I get to make suggestions, but otherwise it's GTFO.
My wife's current* list of things she will not watch on TV:

Violence
Sex
Suspense
Nudity (no sex or see #2)
Common (the rapper - which rules out John Wick 2)
Anything with shaky cam or quick cut editing

She will watch sports but then bitch b/c I'm watching sports. The only thing I refuse to watch is cable news. We do agree on that at least.

So it's basically home improvement shows (kill me), Storage Wars (Brandi at least), old movies (I can dig it), police procedurals (but usually NCIS, again kill me), etc.

The golden age of TV/streaming and I LITERALLY HAVE TO F*CKING WORK OUT TO WATCH ANYTHING or wait until she falls asleep on the couch next to me.

Also, off topic but related question (should probably enter a poll) - Does your wife still expect you to go to bed when she does? And it's not all women. First wife didn't care. 2nd wife, well.

Go to bed at the same time. And peak at her phone. No charge.

Wait, what now? What did I miss?
You know how some guys prefer to lease a vehicle instead of buy? Mac prefers to lease his wives until they need to be traded in. She must’ve turned 30 or something. Then he talks himself into believing they kicked him to the curb to maximize the sympathy sex at the bars. The guy hooked up with Jessica Alba in St.Louis, ffs. That’s some serious game. I’m starting to think Mac is C-$.

@UncleMark I’ll need help on my self deletion impulse on this one.😊

Morrison you have access to any of that nba money? I’m watching welcome to wrexham. Fantastic! I think that’s my calling. To own a 5th division team in Britain. I would be obsessed. Let me know

I wish. In the last 22 years I watched the Warriors sold for about $140 mill, then sold 10 years later for $450 mill, and now 12 years later are worth close to $6 billion. The guy that owns the Mavs did even better, comparatively. Owning a sports franchise is the best investment out there if you can afford to get in early. You’d have to run a soccer franchise cause I’d rather be busy catching harassment cases, watching a basketball game, or watching paint dry, while the soccer team is playing. 😂

That’s unreal re the warriors

The barstool guy actually came and did a review on imo’s. He ranked it amongst the worst pizza in the country
Can't be as bad as "Ohio Valley Pizza" that originated in Steubenville.

The dough and sauce are cooked but the cheese and other toppings are put on cold, after the dough and sauce are cooked.
