I want McCollum but I have a hunch it's a name not on this list, so I chose "other." If I said who, this board would lose its collective mind. So, let's all just enjoy our mornings instead.

After McCollums interview with Dakich I get the feeling McCollum has not been offered the IU job. I know nothing at all, but felt that way when they discussed open jobs

Did not hear it, but have to think he is smart enough to not say much about open jobs when he is trying to prep for the tournament. Doubt he was going to come out and say, yea I have been offered, but we will see!

Of course, but he did have one comment while chuckling along the lines of "yeah apparently I'm the coach of 7 different teams, I just don't know it yet" and IU is definitely pushing the narrative the hardest that McCollum is a front runner. Just felt like that it was directed to IU and Iowa

Are you sure IU is pushing the narrative? I have not read or heard anything about the coaching job from anyone affiliated with the university.

Aside from that, McCollum would be plain stupid to even imply that he is a candidate for any job.

To clarify IU fanbase (social media for example)

If Brownell is the choice I suspect we will be in the same situation in 5 years. I cannot believe IU is unable to find an elite coach with our resources in a basketball loving state. It boggles the mind. We could have had May or Beard possibly TJ or McCollum. Dolson got lucky with Cignetti. Even a blind squirrel stumbles on a nut occasionally.

I hate hearing our two top candidates are Brownell and McCollum... One of these is not like the other!

Doesn't have to be McCollum, although that's who I have wanted not long after it was announced Woodson was retiring. But there's at least three others I'd solidly prefer over Brownell. Not that he'd be terrible or anything, at least he's a college coaching professional. But he's just not going to be elite. At least McCollum might be. But there's others who are likely to be so for us.

I guess it comes down to who actually wants the job.

I don't think we'll get an established elite coach (unless Dolson pulls off a miracle hire of someone who's currently not active). Those guys are all quite happy where they are, or are older and will retire where they are.

Our choices are mediocre or good-but-not-elite established coaches, or rising young unproven coaches. I would prefer the latter.

If it's not announced today, then I would say we can safely say it's someone who's team is in the NCAA tournament.

I would also wager the deal is done with whomever it is. They will be announced after their team gets bounced.

I think Dolson is still scrambling because no one decent wants the job or he settled for Brownell.

I fear you are correct.

Everyone on the other forums who was claiming "done deal" is taking it back.

I've been a Ben M. fan and would be very happy if its him, but I have 0 confidence in it happening.

I've called him Dull Son was a reason. I'll take it back if he surprises.

Doubt it, but you may be right. I am guessing some feelers may have been sent out before the official announcement was made about the "retirement" and he had a good feeling he would get his gut

I would wager the deal is NOT done. And if it is, and it’s one of the coaches in the tournament, I would be very disappointed that they weren’t only concentrating on their current team. That wouldn’t be a coach that will be “all” in on your job/team.
But of course only a couple people will know how the coaching hire actually went down.

I'd be extremely disappointed if he doesn't have his person locked up already. It could very well be Brownell, which would be disappointing as well. But if they have no one at this point? That would be very sad.

No. At the very latest the new coach will be announced the day after the tournament ends.

These coaches are professionals. They know how to separate the business side of things from the coaching side.

If they don't have someone it means no one wants the job. And that would be extremely sad.

I think it’s good to keep in mind that silence is not the same as inactivity, particularly with many likely candidates still coaching their current teams.

I agree. But I’m sure the only communication at this time (if the coach is in tournament) is with their agents. Probably not any “interviews” directly with the coach.
