Most Layoffs Since 2009

IRS is going to cut 50% of staff. Taxes now optional. You'll get a response to your tax questions in about 2 years. Don't bother.

As a fiscal conservative, I think we ought to go after each and every person that isn't paying his or her income taxes. I like low income taxes, but I pay every dime I owe. At least I probably do since my wife is my CPA and she's the most honest person I know.
What if it costs more to go after some people than they owe?

Nah. Crappy management in films is no different or more glamorous than crappy management in government or large corporations. Too many people not incentivized to give a damn about the wisdom of the money they are spending. And films have to deal with shit Pakistani customer service just like sporting goods manufacturers. 🤣
Bwahahaha written like somebody who can have happy hour at sur and doesn’t have the foggiest idea how horrible it is to deal with pakis

Of course, that would have to be considered, but an IRS agent/auditor gets paid the same amount every year whether he catches tax cheats or not. At least until those that don't catch any get fired. I'd have to look it up, but there are billions and billions in unpaid taxes every year. Every billion counts, right?

Yes, but you said "each and every" as if the amount didn't matter, as if it were a moral issue.

I get that. I feel the same way you do about the unfairness of someone cheating on their taxes. But, fiscally, it doesn't make sense to chase down every last one.

I said it should be considered. I don't know how much the cost is per case, but if a case indicates anything equal to or more than average cost, go after them.

Nothing mythical about $600b in missing annual revenue

Due almost entirely to our overly-complicated tax system.

Go to a flat tax/national sales tax combination and corruption would be much less likely and easier to track.

And we could have a much smaller IRS, realizing tremendous cost savings.

Is the expectation that the IRS will come out and say compliance is actually great, we’re probably even overstaffed.

Or that EPA will say, we’re doing a great job lowering our carbon footprint, I think we can use less resources this year.

Or that DoD will say the world is relatively peaceful, we don’t face any imminent military threats, we can probably shrink our size and scope

Rent seekers gonna rent seek.

I don't feel sorry for you rich bastages.

😛
I wish.

My wife is a CPA (although not in public accounting) and she loves to itemize.

I can't tell you how much time it takes for 2 people to file who have no extraordinary write-offs.

It was really bad when I owned the deli. I never made much money on it - which she loved to point out - but then she whined after I sold it because we didn't get the huge business write-offs and refunds.

Think how many CPAs would be starving if we went to a flat tax!

Agree it's too complicated. I like a flat tax if we're going to have an income tax, but I've long favored replacing the income tax with a Value Added Tax (VAT). This means everyone is contributing to federal revenue and it also ensures we collect taxes from illegal aliens and tourists to help with our federal revenue. I do not favor a VAT and an income tax together. There could be an annual or monthly rebate to low-income citizens or even one to everyone which offsets the extra costs of basic necessities.

Not a big fan of the VAT tax. Every step of production is taxed - way too complicated.

I favor a combination of a simple national sales tax and flat income tax. Spread the burden around and simplify, simplify, simplify. Maybe exempt things like food and some items to help the lower income.

VAT is essentially a sales tax at every step.

Kokomo

I wish I was going into business there now. 2 huge S. Korean Samsung battery plants being built and 4 Chrysler plants. Boomtown. Even the downtown has a S. Korean restaurant now. Indian restraurant opening soon.

Blue collar. Ain't no Car-mel.

they'd love a deli. catering. etc.

It's fine. Most don't understand the difference between what these reports are, how they are compiled and what they represent.

The official govt report is considered a lagging report. Challenger and other similar reports (ADP payroll, etc) typically give a more real time estimate.
