Memorial Stadium

Yeah, mark me down as a soft no on the Speedwagon. Heh.
I get it, but just as relevant as Bon Jovi, which some here really like. When the White Sox adopted Don't Stop Believing in 2004, people ate it up. The St Louis Blues somehow landed on Gloria by Laura Branigan and it caught fire and carried them to a Stanley Cup.

You can mix in a lot of different songs that every generation will enjoy. The Boston Red Sox work in Neil Diamond with Dropkick Murphys. It can all work great if done correctly.
Exactly.

Everyone knows Creed sucks...but last year the Texas Rangers weird schtick got the whole town back on the Creed bandwagon. :)

In fact, another 4th Quarter nominee.
  • Guitar Riff
  • Uplifting chorus
  • Cheezy in a way students would dig
Downside is the chorus takes a while to get to.

Really only one option that would satisfy the young and old...

Girl Talk's "Oh No".

Ludicris mixed with Sabbath
"Teach Me How to Dougie" mixed with Jane's Addiction and MIA...

Get a radio friendly version and you have something for everyone. :)

Yeah, I'm probably a soft no on Bon Jovi too, but I get it, others are allowed to like music I don't.

We tried Don't Stop Believin, and it got some traction, but they didn't keep it going.

Tough to find one that will make everyone happy.

It would be great if IU could find a song that is uniquely Indiana (Mellencamp is the obvious one), but many songs that have zero affiliation with the state or region are beloved at their respective venues.

Sweet Caroline became a staple at Fenway Park at Fenway Park in 1997. Someone played it to honor a friend who just named their baby Caroline. Tom Petty’s Won’t Back Down is a great singalong and it’s relevant at a game. Most important would be that it be a fun singalong.

I doubt the musical powers in Bloomington could get a singalong right - if those are the powers that gave us the theme from Jaws, the theme from the Godfather, Wipeout and other generational songs embraced by dead people.

The funny Sweet Caroline is West Virginia, who yells Eat Shit Pitt, instead of bom bom bom.

Gotta figure out what the students like. They’re the key to making it work.
To a degree. Have they ever let the students vote on this, maybe put an online poll in the IDS?

My guess is that it would be Taylor Swift or some rave song and that's a no go. I also don't think you want some overplayed cliché Jock Jams song.

I don't care if Florida already uses it (besides they're not doing much with it), " I Won't Back Down" is a perfect fit for this Staff and this TEAM...

Here's the version they need to put up on the Jumbotron:

Great sing along opportunity for the Entire crowd...

Switch out the lions for Bison cameos and this might be a good timeout for commercial sing along... (one of maybe 4):

Nobody sings along to jack and Diane and then goes into depressed state after doing so. The idea is you get everyone to join together and something that they all know and can do together and when the entire stadium is all singing the same song, regardless of age or typical musical interest, it makes people feel goodand together and gets them excited
What's for lunch at the home today?

The idea is not who has the smarmiest kumbayah.

What about the version of Walk This Way with Aerosmith and Run DMC?

A little old, a little semi new!

After much thought and listening to 50+ songs, I've come to the decision that R.O.C.K. in the USA by JCM should be our start of the 4th quarter song. It's special to Indiana, it's fast paced, it's fun and given that the stadium is nicknamed The Rock, perfectly appropriate.

There's only one solution to this never ending argument.

Someone needs to go into a college bar, drop about $20 into the jukebox with all of the song suggestions, and gauge the reaction by the bar-going public.

Spoiler alert: you'll hear a much bigger reaction from "Africa" by Toto, "The Pina Colada Song" by Rupert Holmes, anything by Journey, Bon Jovi, or even 80s Madonna over anything Mellencamp.

Yup.

The loudest sing alongs I've seen at Kilroys was Hep years when the chorus of this came on...

Africa by Toto is the shit.

Perhaps that's true, but why not start a tradition....we didn't just put a statue of Rupert Holmes on campus, did we?

People have to participate for a tradition to take hold. That's the rub.

Can't make "fetch" happen. It can be curated, but it has to be organic.

And with an attitude like that, I don't think Rupert will ever get the statue he deserves. :)

IU is committed to addressing the bathroom availability by contracting out with Cousin Eddie Sanitation Services the remainder of the season.

The Taj Mahal of interstate bathrooms.
Can we get their brisket too?

They still play Mellencamp at frat parties sometimes.

The song with the best student/crowd participation this year has been "Don't Stop Believing". That was the Maryland game. Not sure why they didn't try it again during the Nebraska game.

I'm good with that one, though I'd prefer "R.O.C.K. in the USA" or "Gimme Some Lovin'".

I am not good with any other of the above suggestions (well, maybe "Livin' on a Prayer", but I swear to G@d I will never set foot inside MS again if they play a Madonna song)

I can totally get behind this. Thought it was suggested before (maybe a different thread/different time), and someone poo-poo’d it.

Has it not been tried before at the stadium? Should do it this Saturday!

I searched by the song name and there have been mentions of using it on gameday, but the threads are from 2019.

Nothing excites a young crowd like a 50 year old song
Music is timeless. I'm not suggesting playing ONLY 50 year old songs, I'm suggesting making a Mellencamp song our start of the 4th rally song. There is room for other songs at other times throughout the game including house music, hip hop, heavy metal and even the William Tell Overture.
