I think Painter is a good coach. I think he’s done a subpar job this year. Edey made Painter look great. Many pundits thought they’d be better.

Disagree. I think he's done just fine.
They are not a versatile team. They get all the scoring from 3 guys. Heck, even IU has more scorers than Purdue does.

Talk about underwhelming. IU has 6 top 100 guys, and several are top 40.

Musselman, Woodson, Pikerel (Rutgers) and Fran are your 4 big losers this year.

And by the way Musselman is working on the Mike Davis 2004-2005 feat of basically going 0.500 twice. It's scary how many posters wanted that guy at IU.

Speaking of mediocre coaching.... Pick Cronin, despite his consistent "making the grade" has more talent than any other team in the league.
Talk about getting 180 horsepower from your V8 engine. That guy would be worse than McCaffrey if you took all his money grubbing primadonnas away from UCLA.
I'm hoping Dolson is reading my posts. If he's smart enough to hire Cignetti, then he should be smart enough to see that even Mike Davis could take that UCLA team to the Sweet 16. Cronin isn't even close to challenging for the league title with his 10 RSCI top 100 players.
I hope they play Drake in the first round (because of course IU, if they get in, will play Ole Miss or TTU).

I don't think I would throw shade their way when IU was picked to be at the top of the BT (some even picked them to win it, I believe) and we are looking up at them in the standings AGAIN.

Scott hit a HR with the next coach, I am sick of this shit.

To the OP’s question, I feel probably like most, which is hopeful, but far from confident.

They stumbled for the conference, but they will be a four seed or whatever. Not bad.

Painter is a very good coach. Their main issue is so far in the NIL era they can't get good enough talent, which lowers their ceiling.

I think if you talk to Painter, he will tell you the opposite, that NIL has actually helped him in recruiting, it has allowed him to figure out fast which players want to play basketball on a team, versus somebody more concerned about their back pocket, so they can make a nightly Taco Bell run! All Painter keeps doing is winning! Is NIL more important than winning? Seems like you read this forum, NIL and first round draft picks are IU's goal, not winning! And this century is evidence to just that.

Thanks for the stupid reply. Keep chugging that Kool-Aid.

In reality, Painter is constantly begging PU's donors for more NIL.

I disagree T.H. You can look at IU's season and draw a direct correlation to it potentially turning around. When the decision was made to not bring Woodson back, and the pressure was off for him to appease certain players (and their network they came from--- aau programs, agents, etc) IU began playing better. It is apparent that IU is better with guys like Leal, Galloway and Goode out there as opposed to Mgbako and whatever is going on with Tucker. I would not write off Purdue just yet. Explain to me how Painter has not excelled in the NIL era. They were in the title game last year and have a team that will most likely end up a 3 or 4 seed this year. Next year they will start the season as a top 10 team. If a few of their wings can make a jump they will be really good.

NIL has only been around since 2021 and the main reason PU really excelled was Edey. PU got away with paying him only $1M/yr when he was worth $2.5-3M/yr. He was literally the perfect player, a NPOY willing to play for a big discount. Someone like him isn’t coming around again.

I said Painter is a very good coach, I don’t know what else you want me to say. I’d be happy if IU hired him, and that would also be funny. Fact is PU’s recruiting is sliding a bit and it limits them. Matt is out there begging for more NIL and he hasn’t got it yet.

As for IU, we just have a bad coach that wastes NIL. NIL is just a tool, it doesn’t guarantee anything, though it can help a lot if used properly.

Purdues recruiting is sliding? Please explain how? They just brought in a 5 man class that looks to be really good. The next couple classes commits also look good based on stats.

And now with Rev Share, painter has more money with this alleged none he currently has. Crazy that Smith and TKR are making no money.

Yes, I know you can't accept the fact PU's NIL is pretty mid. PU is struggling to get top-50 players. Painter is a very good coach and he'll maximize what he gets, but it's a limitation. If PU could improve their NIL it would be a big boost for their program.

I've never said PU has no NIL, just that PU's NIL is mediocre to okay, so I've got no idea what you're talking about with players making "no money."

Painter will not bring in someone who he believes will screw up team chemistry. Many of the Top 50 that you cited are looking to be a one-and-done and highly paid on their way to the NBA. He won't play that game. Catchings is a case in point. According to reports, he was threatening to decommit multiple times and wanted a guaranteed starting spot. Painter doesn't do that. Was he wrong? Catchings is not starting at BYU, he is averaging 18 minutes a game and 8.7 points. I haven't looked at mock drafts recently but I doubt that the scouts are salivating over those stats on a team ranked below Purdue. I am pretty confident that he doesn't get drafted and enters the portal. He is the kind of player that ends up at Memphis in his third year after another portal move.

Purdue will be fine. The predictions here that it will decline substantially have been made for years and have been very wrong so far.

Look at Rutgers, they totally changed their program to get two highly-rated recruits and it has been a disaster.

Well, Matt recruits top-50 guys and he is pushing for more NIL, so I guess he wants them like every other coach in CBB.

I never said Purdue will decline substantially, but it's tough not getting some top-50 players.

Catchings is sour grapes, got it.
