So sick and phucking tired of finding ways to lose games like this though.

It’s systemic. It’s the players. It’s the coaches. It’s the whole damn program at this point.

Why, in the hell, do we all of a sudden have Race Thompson with the ball at the top of the key. We just went on a damn 14-2 run with both guys on the block.

How/why would anyone ever leave Liddell like that and give up a wide open dunk. When your up 2 damn points with under 10 seconds. Why?

Why on earth wouldn’t you call a timeout there?

Why do we ALWAYS get out executed and out coached in these situations?

6-7 years in a row now. 3 coaches. Countless 4 and 5 star kids. Same bullshit.

Despite all that. I do love the fight. We aren’t as talented as OSU, and gritted our way to having the game in our hands.

Outscored 17-6 in OT and if we count the last minute of regulation, 21-6. 21 points given up in the final 6 minutes including OT. One made FG offensively.

Turn out the lights, the party is over.
Another year without IU in the tourney.
Sad thing is, I am not that upset. Guess I am getting used to it.
Big scheme. I’m not that mad. We just aren’t skilled or talented enough.

But damn it…it’s so frustrating to watch them put themselves in a position, yet again…only to choke it away.

I’d seriously rather lose games by double figures. At least then it’s just about talent. Much more frustrating watching is choke, again, and again, and again.

Well, you just made it worse. Ha ha.

It’s at a point now where you can feel the piss running down ALL of their legs. Not a single one of them has winning moxie. Damndest thing I’ve ever seen. Usually SOMEONE will step up.

I’d say Bates is the closest we have. Rob maybe?

Team was short a starter and two rotation players. They lost in OT.
Appreciate your level headed take, but seriously. Down a starter. Are you referring to Galloway? The dude who’s started three games? Please. And the other two are Lander and RP? We lost with them playing too. Hell, Lander barely even sees the floor. Keep pumping the sunshine. Keep pointing to excuses. No matter who we play, the results always speak for themselves.

Trey is a current starter and would have started tonight. We missed him greatly tonight.

What's really frustrating is even though we should have won in regulation, we seemed to get a ton of just garbage baskets all night. I just don't think we played all that well and what we did get was from heady offensive rebounds.

Think about how we played OSU at home, it's been a long time since we've put it all together and looked like a gelled team that's a major threat.

The way we lost is basically the only way we could have that would have made me this upset. Maybe getting beat by 30 or so??… but HOW we lost completely erases the great, gritty, overachieving effort they showed late in that second half. Which is something they haven’t done much of. Lots of really, really good things from this game.

All obliterated in the final 1:15 if regulation.

Actually not all that we got thumped In OT. The game was tied over half way through OT. They just out talented us to close it out.

Did we? Really? What about last game? Did we miss him then? Sure. Maybe we did miss him. But with or without him, it doesn’t change the outcome. It doesn’t change the fact we can’t close out games. It doesn’t change the fact we have no offensive scheme. It changes nothing as far as the final score is concerned and what side of it we are on.

Well, that….and their coaching is miles ahead of IU. Woodson is going to be done in 3 years anyway. This was always just a move to placate the fan base for the time being.

What did Doyle call it? Gruesome?

We held them to 63 points in regulation. Defense was not our problem. Except of course when we had a total lapse in the final minute.
Branham dominated us. Would Trey have provided anything offensively? That’s a decent question. He very well could have slowed Branham though defensively. So maybe OSU would have only scored 55 in regulation.

They were up 50-39 and we got the lead at 56-55. We were up 63-59 with 1:16 to play. OSU scored 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Yet still managed to force OT. The issues we have are systemic. We need to flush the roster of anyone not named Galloway, Bates or Geronimo. As for the rest of this team. Thank you for your efforts and working hard and doing your best. You will forever be Hoosiers. But your services are no longer needed. Need a complete reset.

Zero chance of that happening.

I saw the NBA Draft Net latest mock Draft has TJD as the 31st pick. 1st in the 2nd round. If that sticks, or anything close to it, he’s gone.

Beyond that? Who knows? Some of the older guys will leave or transfer. I’m sure there will be a younger guy or two leave. But none of them will be forced out. Nor should they be.

The answer lies in the day to day, fundamental and foundational things in our program. The only way we keep repeating these things is we’re not focusing on developing disciplined, strong minded, solid basketball players, every day.

So we didn't lose? Awesome!

Oh I don’t think for a minute the royal flush of the roster will occur. Just saying I believe it would be in our best interest. Trayce is not coming back to IU. NBA or not. Race will be done with basketball. He’s already in his fifth year. Kopp is a 5 year player and so is Xavier. Stewart is a true senior. So we aren’t far from the royal flush.

It's the RMK curse. IU will not be good until 1) he dies or 2) 2029.

You never disappoint.
Are you still riding that unicorn across the rainbow bridge with the Lollipop Guild trailing close behind over there in Lemondrop Land?

And missed all three three-point shots with the lead or tied.
I thought the key was we never could push it to 6. You just knew once we blew those opportunities to get ahead by six we would find a way to lose and sure enough we did.

Love the fight?!? That’s great and all but how about someone with a killer instinct who wants to go get the damn ball and take a shot in crunch time?

I think Bates is probably that guy. He just isn’t quite reliable enough to go make the right play. Other than that, we have a bunch of “not sure I want the ball” types. And it shows.

Could we have done anything else wrong in the last 1:16? It's like we try to lose. Simply amazing how inept we are in crunch time and make any random team look like the Phoenix Suns down the stretch. Really? You give up a wide open dunk to let them tie you? You can't make this up.

A wide open dunk by EJ Liddell??!!

And somehow we have Race Thompson making a post entry pass. A situation and play that hadn’t worked all night long. And that had been ditched prior to that in favor of posting both guys low. Which had been working.

It is like we tried to lose.

Race completely telegraphed that pass as it was late and forced. Ridiculously bad. We of course foul then miss a 3. Then give up a wide open dunk to their best player. Then no TO and get a hail mary nothing shot. You can't script it worse. It's like they woke up and said, "Wait, we can't win this game".

I will remain positive but it does seem teams that dont know how to win find a way to lose. Let's go get this maryland W now and Minn. Very doable

Good micro context, but this game adds legos onto macro context as well and that's worth thinking about. In as far as we can say that there is an "objective" way to look at things, talking matter-of-factly about the game is a different conversation than trying to discern what an honest macro narrative might be...and both conversations are happening on top of each other in these threads. An honest macro narrative is likely to be much more critical and prescriptive than what makes sense to say in a single game breakdown.
