I'd love to get former Republican Congressman George Holding's take. He served in the House from 2013 to 2021 and, prior to Congress, was US Attorney in North Carolina, appointed by the second President Bush. His office prosecuted former North Carolina governor Mike Easley, who pleaded guilty to a campaign finance felony. His office also prosecuted former US Senator and Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on campaign finance charges.
I was watching Tucker last night when he lied about the outcome of the Edwards prosecution. Carlson said Edwards was acquitted. Edwards was, in fact, acquitted on one count and the jury was hung on the remaining five counts. The government decided not to retry him. At the time, Holding defended his office's decision to initially prosecute Edwards: "It’s a very unique set of facts, but he was running for the highest office in the land and there’s a lot of scrutiny on that." He added that prosecutors moved forward in part because they thought "if someone can get away with this, what do campaign finance laws mean? … The government made the determination this is a crime." Holding added that, in cases involving elected officials, "there are always going to be charges that this is a political case. That just comes with the territory."
Campaign finance cases are not easy cases to win. I don't know the language of whatever statutes Bragg is relying on but, under federal campaign finance law, a conviction requires proof that the defendant knew his actions were illegal. That's a tough row to hoe. Should be interesting.

Murt I have a question...I told ya a couple weeks back the wifeys car got hit. So they just came back with 54,000 to fix it. The KBB private owner for pristine (which it was) is 62,775.00. Were thinking the guys insurance (State Farm) might try and screw us here. So do the body shop peeps. If the insurance comes back trying to give us anything less we will have to hire an attorney. If so, what kind of attorney should I hire for that? Please don't say ambulance chaser.
I have no clue...The body shop guys said they are going to try and settle for fair condition which would screw us. I'm not accepting that...
