Looks like Tuesday's the day

I don’t think the statutes of limitations will allow prosecution for a misdemeanor or felony from 2016.

Makes me think this could be for something we’re not expecting as opposed to something a first year PD would have dismissed in a day.

Whatever it is though, it better be good and they better have the goods. Otherwise, they’ll never be able to wash the politics stench from it.

There's a provision in New York law that reads "In calculating the time limitation applicable to commencement of a criminal action, the following periods shall not be included: (a) Any period following the commission of the offense during which (i) the defendant was continuously outside this state.” This may, in effect, toll the statute for at least the period during which Trump was living in Washington and allow wiggle room for prosecutors with respect to the statute.

But, yeah, I agree. It better be good.

Haven't been following so don't know. I just know I have been hearing that Donald Trump is getting indicted or going to prison for about 6 years now and it has led to basically nothing. This exact post has been made here a few times and people get all worked up and then nothing happens.

Guess we see on Tuesday if this is truly different.

ETA: I don't understand the obsession with this guy on either side.
This isn't a case of people pulling stuff out of thin air. Trump himself, a former president of the United States, publicly announced that he's going to be arrested in three days. Despite that declaration, you're: 1) not following it; and 2) can't understand why everyone's talking about it?

You seem like a good guy so I'll pass on a snarky comment, but you're making it difficult.

if it is just that stupid stormy daniels stuff i hope he refuses to leave mar a lago. and he calls on the proud boys to defend him. and they inundate the island. and they raise the three bridges. and proud boys armed with automatic weapons mingle with the locals along worth - creating a new weird community. and desantis refuses to help
Yes yes yes. A new autonomous zone complete with a smoker right out front smoking brisket, pork and chicken and free beer. I nominate dbm to run it and name it.

Tofu is a felony and is considered illegal contraband.

The only Currency accepted is ammo.

That's all it will be this round. Fani and Jack come later.

The Stormy Daniels stuff is lame. Right up there with lying about a blow job.
Not starting anything but...the dems are like the shittiest sales person in the room. They continue to throw shit at the board till something sticks.

Whatever it is he was about to unveil after 4 years in office it must have been damaging. They still have the foot on the gas and there is no letting up. An assisination attempt or success would prolly trigger a civil war.
You wanna end all this shit. Term limits. That would not allow these politicians to get so corrupt. All of them. 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 year politicians. That has to stop.

I have basically tapped out on Trump. I don't want him to be the GOP candidate so his antics, legal troubles, etc. don't mean much to me right now. He is a thermobaric bomb that his supporters and detractors toss into the middle of the room to suck the air out of everything else anytime it starts to get quiet on that front.

So no, I wasn't following the particulars other than "Trump is getting indicted....again" because I don't care. All his detractors sitting around thinking "oh boy, we got him this time" while at the same time an actual indictment will send his supporters to the front lines. I think all of you guys kind of stink because none of you really want to move on from the guy. Trump supporters love to stick the left's nose in it and those who are against him want him front and center because they think he is a loser politically. They thought the same thing in 2016. Be careful what you wish for.

It is akin to a mob boss going to jail for tax evasion. They bring to court what they have a good chance of being able to prove/win.

If ever there was a case to prove that old saw, this is the one.
It’s so dumb. I do hope it’s a crazy day tho and Rudy is in the mix at some crazy locale like the landscaping co. Just for men dripping all over the wrong pleading he intends to file

Yeah, that was lame too.

But don't get me wrong, I hope they cuff him and perp walk him in a orange jumpsuit and don't grant bail.

Alan Dershowitz used both the ham sandwich and Al Capone tax evasion examples this morning on Fox Business.

No perp walk today is expected today, said Alan, as that would make Trump’s arrest prediction true

Tax evasion I would be fine with for obvious reasons. How he moved money to a porn star who accepted it is simply a progressive prosecutor with a political agenda. Lameeeee

When do the protests start? I have an old couch that I can drag out to throw on the fire.
I read there were three people with signs outside the courthouse in lower Manhattan yesterday.

Couple reasons for that, I think: 1) the January 6 prosecutions; and 2) the NYPD doesn't fvck around and everybody knows it.

Alan Dershowitz is a long-past-his-prime old man desperately trying to stay relevant.

If he used the term "perp walk," he's really lost it. There won't be a perp walk for Trump, regardless of the day he's indicted.

The "ham sandwich" thing is an overworked cliche. Trump's been a crook his entire adult life. Why would anyone be surprised by an indictment or three.

Yeah he’s not going through the front door and taking his shoes off for the scanner

I can’t remember the specifics of why Michael Cohen actually went to jail for this. Didn’t he just make the payment or did he lie under oath?

He got hammered for lame ass process crimes.

Did I get that right, Van?

Are you kidding me? The Party, his Party, has refused to move on from the guy. It wouldn't have been hard after Jan 6, but balls were not in abundance.
Be careful what you wish for.
I wish for two strong, viable parties, like we had for most of my life. I'd like a smart, pragmatic, sane, pro-democracy Republican candidate for president in 2024. Too much to ask for, I guess.

I think it's likely that Trump gets the nomination. He will then proceed to get his ass kicked in the general, no matter who the Dems put up.

No. It’s actually not like that at all
So do you think Cohen should be in jail for violating campaign finance law?

If so, shouldn't the guy that orchestrated it be his cell mate?

What makes breaking campaign finance laws something that shouldn't be punished?

What laws do you think are OK to break without punishment? If there is no punishment, can you explain the purpose of having the law? Or is this just a trump exemption?

I think the prosecutor is WOKE WOOOHOOOOOOOO. And with wokeness comes the absence of common sense. So he is going to use finite resources to prosecute a former president over monies paid and accepted to a porn star in 2016. That’s called a political prosecution. That’s not in the best interest of his office nor the country. If he had something substantive bring it. Not this silliness. The original action was federal. I’m curious to see what this statute he’s traveling under looks like. And the SOL. Methinks this will devolve into a legal quagmire. Someone should show him the definition of prosecutorial discretion. Prediction. By the end of the case he will be under fire to be removed - like so many progressive prosecutors

Nobody gives a rat's ass about Trump or anyone else paying off a hooker. It's the use of campaign donations to pay off a hooker, lying about doing it, ordering people to lie about doing it, etc. We think, anyway. We will find out the charges soon or later, hopefully today.

I get that. Still not remotely worth prosecuting - particularly if they have bigger things to stick him with

It is amazing that these posters had no issue with Cohen heading to jail but think it is a political witch hunt going after the guy that told Cohen to break the law.

Are we also going to look the other way when it comes to trump trying to bribe Cohen with a pardon? I am guessing presidential pardon power wasn't meant as a means to cover your own misdeeds.

Methinks there should be an investigation into Jordan and comer's attempts to interfere with the trial on trump's behalf

And the SOL.
The problem with SOL is two-fold. A) When Trump became president, the whole "Can't indict a sitting president" thing pretty well put the kibosh on it for four years and B) It's a Trump lawyer specialty to run delay tactics on every lawsuit brought against him to kick the can down the road and hope that the defendant (who is paying lawyer fees the entire time) loses their nerve / wallet so that the problem eventually goes away.

Is there a definition to SOL that's dependent upon when the legal action was originally filed compared to when that legal action actually comes to court? Does the SOL get extended when you are able to put delay tactics in court that can potentially add years to the inquiry?

The feds passed. Cohen isn’t the president. There are implications and repercussions that are greater than the individual, which should be balanced against the severity of the crime. Anyway let’s see the stat. How it’s tolled. Charges etc
