How does a pitching staff manage to be worst in the league in walks and HBP while being better than average in WP, K, and hits allowed? I've heard Mercer talk about "loss of confidence." Is there a generic explanation for the loss of control around the strike zone?

Hitters can't hit if you're walking and hitting them!

FWIW, IU has given up exactly 200 walks and HBPs going into today's game at Evansville. That breaks down to 151 walks and 49 HBPs and both are the most in the B1G. I don't know how many of those free passes to the base ended up crossing the plate, but it's been a bunch of them. The closest team to us in walks is Minnesota with 130.
