Why must you say I am delusional about a guy possibly averaging 6-8 points next year? It happens all the f’ing time with recruits with similar rankings in their freshman year.

We literally have no 2-3 that resembles Gunn. Not even leal. No 2-3 guard we have elevates or manufactures shots. He’s got a legit jumper and fade away.
He committed to IU extremely early and as I said in my last post missed a huge chunk of the AAU season going into his senior year when rating evaluations are done. I’m not surprised you don’t think Gunn will be good basing it strictly off recruiting rankings, hence my reasoning for calling your ability to evaluate talent dogshit.
Does it happen all the time? Can you name the players in the last 10 years for IU that were ranked 100+ that averaged 6-8 points for IU as a freshman?

As someone who has watched CJ Gunn live at least ten times since his junior year, not to many coaching nearly 30 years in the high school ranks (many in the same conference Gunn currently plays in), I'm more than confident when I say that you don't know what in the hell you're talking about. Hope we are abundantly clear in that regard.

You must think Braden Smith is going to be an absolute stud for Purdue if you are only factoring in how they play in high school.

Anthony Leal wasn't near the shooter that CJ Gunn was in high school nor played night in and night out competition anywhere close to what Gunn played. You are talking out of your ass.

Think he’ll be a 15-20 minute a night guy and average 5-6 points per game on top of being one of the better 3 point shooters on the team. But again he’s only a freshman, not sure I ever alluded to him being a day 1 star. But thinking he’s only going to be a role player at IU based on his offer sheet and ranking after committing extremely early in his high school career on top of missing the most crucial evaluation period is an asinine take. That’s a take from somebody who has never picked up a ball in their life.
Ok so only IU and only the last 10 year lol. Any other restrictions you want to put on that? And many similar ranked in that span averaged 4-5 so not much difference.
I believe if Gunn plays significant minutes, which is likely without transfers at the 2/3 he will be a solid contributor.

You are putting words in my mouth. I've stated that my opinion on Gunn comes from watching him play, the opinions talent evaluators have on him, and the list of schools that offered him. All 3 combine to form my opinion.
Your opinion on him sounds like it is being formed from watching him play only.

There is a huge difference between 6-8 ppg and 4-5 ppg. If Gunn plays significant minutes next year, we are once again not a tournament team, and likely will have our worst year since Crean's first year.

I’m from Bloomington you doof. Leal is not close in regards to being able to do what Gunn currently does.
If you’ve watched him play several times like you say and only come to the conclusion that he’ll only be a role player by years 3 and 4 then I have to question what you’re looking at? You’re basing his potential on his offer sheet which is limited (because he committed so early) and ranking (because he missed a majority of the summer evaluation period due to injury). If you don’t play during the AAU season, you’re lucky if your ranking only stagnates as it usually jumps. Committing at a very early stage in his career while not playing AAU is a huge reason for his lack of offers. It will ultimately be a blessing in disguise.
Did I ask where you were from? Gunn will be exactly like all of our lowly ranked guards have been under the last two coaching staffs.
This time next year they’ll be done with Gunn but have a shiny new recruit of an answer in 2023. Wash rinse repeat. Been watching it for 20+ years.
He may be more than a role player by years 3 and 4. I'm saying he will be a role player because I'm hopeful the staff will find guards that are more talented and capable of making the tournament. It's very possible that Gunn is one of our better players in year 3 and 4. We won't be any good, but he could be one of the best on the team.
It’s entirely way to early to tell how good or bad IU is going to be next year without a finalization of the roster. Predicting 7-8 guys leaving without a single one committing to it yet is the ultimate doom and gloom prediction.
I read earlier where you stated you thought IU stood to lose its entire starting 5 plus Lander and possibly Bates.
