I'm skeptical of polls like that.
Some people don't weight personal happiness as high as others. Others don't or can't take into account what a counterfactual situation would be like (less money, fewer luxuries, fewer trips, etc.). And some people would prefer to be richer, or more well respected and would give up life span to do so. That's not to say people in fact maximize their values--irrationality, emotional makeup, cultural biases, bad choices, imperfect information, etc. all get in the way.
