Just got a little bigger. Tipton is saying Florida Sam Alexis picked the Hoosiers.

This is TJ's analysis of Sam Alexis....

  • Sam Alexis - F/C - 1 year remaining - only 6'9" but 240 pounds with good potential, Alexis averaged 10.8 points/9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game in 26.4 minutes as a sophomore for Chattanooga before transferring to Florida. He struggled with injuries last season for the national champions and his minutes dwindled as a result. He still ended up with a 1.82 DBPR for the Gators and was a positive metrics player for the Mocs. According to Jeff Rabjohns of peegs.com, Alexis could be an option for the Hoosiers now that he is in the portal.

A couple of things to really like about this one...he's 240 pounds and has experience playing in a very high-level league and program. He had a block rate of better than 8 at Chattanooga (26 minutes per game) and a terrific defensive rebounding rate of 25.3 for the Mocs. He was a big part of Florida's rotation until he hurt his ankle and Handlogten got healthy.

He is coming off a down year with injuries and reduced minutes. CDD no doubt looked at his sophomore season where he had more minutes and nearly averaged a double double. FT shooting isn't good, but I suppose he can improve.

He brings the experience from winning a championship. Pretty good addition imho.

Perfect get. Athletic 6'8 rebounder. Get him to play hard he could average 7-8 rebounds a game.
Was effort an issue for him in the past? Sounds like injuries derailed him last year. Were there effort issues as well?

I would think he'd be pretty hungry to prove himself after the year he had last year. Hope so anyways.

I watched a pair of his games at Chattanooga (little did I know at the time that I was "scouting" on a random Tuesday on ESPN+ in January/February) and then saw him multiple times at Florida. This can't be said definitively as I don't know the young man but I never saw anything that made me think effort was a question mark. I would say the opposite and he seemed to always play hard, to my eyes.

Hope you're right. Obviously not playing more at Florida isn't immediately a bad thing. They had a very good, and very deep front line. Just a guess, but combining his injury issues with guys like Haugh emerging, and then the other big white dude coming back and playing... probably effectively "ended" his year and time in Gainesville. Its too bad he ended up playing in as many games as he did. Itd be great to get him for 2 years.
