It's also worth noting that the guy you're linking is also reporting - in the same thread - that police deny reports that this was staged, and that Fox denies he was being written off the show.
So, again, the only thing that interests me here is why you're doing what you're doing.
There's not much to be interested in when it comes to the case. A guy says he was attacked. The police are looking into it. This isn't Law and Order. I don't expect it to be figured out within the hour.
There's not much to be interested in? A TV star claims he's attacked by MAGA hat wearing "rednecks" who pour bleach on him and put a noose around his neck in downtown Chicago. This claim is then reported on every major news outlet in the country. Now the claim is sounding more and more like it was entirely fabricated and you think there's no reason to discuss it? I suggest you not do a twitter search on this story because there's a ton of interest. Or you could just bury your head in the sand and act like it never happened. Your choice.
Only because you are selectively choosing which reporting to believe. For people who don't have a dog in this fight, the police are still working on it, and we'll worry about it later.

Since we're projecting about Mr. Smollett, I've formulated my prediction based on the limited "facts" in evidence. I think the dude was indeed assaulted, but likely by the known individuals in question and for reasons other than race or sexual orientation. Whether the racist, homophopic, "MAGA" stuff was really shouted, I dunno. They could have shouted that stuff to deflect the real reason for the attack, or Smollett could indeed have embellished it for sympathy. I can't make that call.
That's my mid-season prediction. Which means it's probably totally off.

It's hatred that motivates that one and many others here. They truly HATE Trump and they personally hate everyone who supports him. They think they are better than we are and hate us for his election. Now what does that hatred do? At one point I thought I could see where it was going. No I have no clue. If I was going to place it somewhere in the Law & Order franchise, I'd place it in Law & Order, Criminal Intent, with Vincent D'Ornofrio heading up the investigation.

Multiple sources told ABC7 Eyewitness News in Chicago that police are investigating whether Smollett and the two men staged the attack allegedly because Smollett was being written off of "Empire."

But, it seems to me if that's what happened then the two men would not have been released without charges. What am I missing here?
I have no idea what (or how it) exactly happened here, who is and isn't involved and ultimately what to expect going forward. That said, law enforcement can only hold suspects for a set period of time before charging them or letting them go. Since they were let go, we can assume one of two things, that they are no longer considered suspects/persons of interest or that there is insufficient evidence to charge them at this time.
My guess is that after they got arrested for assault and probably threatened with deportation that they came clean about the hoax and are willing to testify to such. Notice how Jussie hires a defense attorney right after these two brothers were arrested? We probably won’t hear much until Jussie is charged. CPD will be extra careful with this one as the “racist cops” chants from the left will be loud and constant. This is what they do best when facts don’t support their narrative. I.E. Covington kids, hands up don’t shoot, and etc.
Maybe. But that's a lot of blanks being filled in with conjecture.
