IU's quarterback saga

Cant completely buy that. To say a program doesnt recruit kids to be backups is naive. Every kid brought into the program has a chance to be the starter...but usually only one, wins the job. As we recently found out, a school like IU can keep three starters. Makes for discord and transfers. But you have to have a backup...it works out naturally. Every year some kids stand on the sideline with clipboard. Its not an accident. They are called roll players. Why would BB have them but not FB? Truth is, they do...unless your Alabama, osu, or UM.
QBs are not generally recruited to be backups or perpetually hold clipboards (walk ons can fill that roll). Generally one scholarship QB is recruited per class with the expectation that they will at some point in their career compete for significant PT. It makes no sense that Zander was only supposed to be a backup, especially with no QB in the '13 class.
