It's RHP Ty Rybarczyk on the mound for IU and he had an ERA of 9.00 in 1.0 IP. Stadler is behind the plate and Tibbitts at 1st with Oliver at 2B.

ISU starts RHP Cole Gilley with an ERA of 7.88 in 8 IP and a WHIP of 1.63 with his OBA of .303.

It's in the mid-50s with a strong wind of between 22 an 24 mph is blowing out to right center field.

1st inning:

T1st:

Mitchell led off with a walk and he eventually scored on a Tibbitts SAC fly to give IU a 1-0 lead.

B1st:

The leadoff hitter reached on an error by Pyne at 3B. Live stats is not working at the ISU site which makes it difficult to track this game. A flyout got the first out. The No. 3 hitter singled to put two runners on and one out. Another flyout resulted in the 2nd out and two runners still on. A K ended the inning with two runners stranded and the leadoff error didn't hurt anything other than the stats.

End of 1st: IU 1 ISU 0

2nd inning:

T2nd:

The 6 thru 8 hitters were up for IU with Mathison leading off. Mathison reached on a pop up where two fielders never called each other off and the ball fell for a single and while it was single it was definitely a mental error. Colopy Kd looking for one out.

A single by Stadler moved Mathison to 3rd and there were runners on the corners and one out.

Oliver Kd looking and with a runner on 3rd, he didn't put the ball in play and there were two outs.

With the top of the order up, Mitchell got a clutch hit to bring in Mathison to make it 2-0.

Pyne got another clutch two-out single to score Stadler from 2nd.

Taylor singled to drive in another run to make it 4-0 and IU had scored three runs after two outs.

Tibbitts walked to load the bases with two outs and Cerny up.

A long out with the outfielder crashing into the wall retired the side.

B2nd:

It's the 6 thru 8 hitters up and Rybarczyk put them down in order which included a K.

End of 2nd: IU 4 ISU 0

3rd inning:

T3rd:

It was the 6 thru 8 hitters up with Mathison leading off.

Mathison walked on a full count. ISU went to the bullpen to bring in RHP Adam Berghorst who is a Michigan State transfer and he had an ERA of 5.40 in 6.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.20 and an OBA of .250.

Colopy walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. ISU went to the bullpen again after Berghorst saw just one batter. They brought in LHP Cam Edmonson with an ERA of 8.18 in 11 IP and a WHIP of 1.73 with an OBA .340.

A throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd and no outs. Stadler singled to bring in both Mathison and Colopy to make it 6-0 IU.

Oliver was up with no outs and Stadler on 1st. Oliver hit into a DP to clear the bases and two outs and the top of the order up in Mitchell. Mitchell flied out to retire the side.

B3rd:

Mercer pulled Rybarczyk after he had two impressive innings. IU brought in Aydan Decker-Petty. D-P had an ERA of 5.29 in 17 IP and WHIP of 1.42 with an OBA of .182.

D-P got the first two batter on flyouts and then gave up a two-out single. D-P then gave up a 2-run homer with two outs. Another two-out homer made it 6-3.

A groundout ended the inning, but two-out homers cut into out lead.

End of 3rd: IU 6 ISU 3

Just turned it on. It sure looks and sounds windy in Terre Haute.

4th inning:

T4th:

It was the 2 thru 4 hitters up with Pyne leading off and he flied out.

Taylor was called out on a very close play at 1B and IU challenged the play. The umps overturned the call and Taylor was ruled safe at first to put a runner on and one out.

A DP ball was challenged by IU and IU won the challenge again with Tibbitts ruled safe at 1st and two outs.

Cerny grounded out to retire the side.

B4th:

IU went to the bullpen to bring in LHP Ryan Rushing with an ERA of 2.70 in 3.1 IP and a WHIP of 2.10 with an OB of .250'

Rushing got the first two batters but an error by Oliver at 2B where he bobbled a ball twice, put a runner on with two outs.

Rushing then walk a batter on four pitches and the inning should be over but for the error, and we now are facing the top of the order with two-outs and two on.

Rushing got a grounder to end the inning with no damage done by the error.

End of 4th: IU 6 ISU 3

5th inning:

T5th:

It was the 6 thru 8 hitters up, IU went down in order with two Ks.

B5th:

It's the 2 thru 4 hitters up for ISU. Once you get past the top of the order, the batting averages in the order drop off considerably. A groundout got the first out. Rushing then hit a batter on a 2-2 count.

A base hit put runners on the corners with one out. Mercer decides to go to the bullpen to bring in RHP Brayden Risedorph with an ERA of 8.22 in 15.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.63 and an OBA of .250.

Risedorph gave up a three-run homer to tie the game at 6-6. IU pitching has given up 38 homers in 21 games so far. Homers have accounted for all six runs by the Sycamores.

Risedorph got the next two batters to end the inning.

End of 5th: IU 6 ISU 6

T6th:

It's the 9 thru 2 hitters up and IU has done nothing at the plate since they got that 6-0 lead.

Oliver reaches on a leadoff single with the top of the order up. All of IU's hits so far have been singles.

Mitchell singled to put runners on the corners with no outs.

Pyne Kd on three pitches. Taylor scored Oliver on a FC with the out at 1st and two outs and Mitchell at 2B with Tibbitts up. Tibbitts popped up in the infield to retire the side with IU up 7-6.

B6th:

Risedorph faced the 8 thru 1 hitters. Risedorph Kd the leadoff hitter. A single put a runner on with one out and the top of the order up.

A groundout for the 2nd out sent the runner to 2nd. Another single scored the runner from 2nd to tie the game. It was ISU's first run that wasn't the result of a homer.

Risedorph then hit a batter to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. Risedorph then hit another batter to load the bases and ISU's No. 1 home run hitter up.

A ridiculous play in which IU didn't know where a pop up in the RF was and it dropped clearing the bases with the hitter taking 2nd. Another single scored another run with two outs and IU all of a sudden was down 11-7. A two-run homer put the lead at 13-7 with six runs scored after two outs.

A flyout ended what was a debacle of an inning for IU.

ISU 13 IU 7

At the start of the game, they put the wind at between 22 and 24 mph blowing out to right center.
I don't think it's died down much yet, if at all.

Sure wish our pitching was helped by it.

7th inning:

T7th:

It was the 5 thru 7 hitters up for IU went down in order and they appear to be a team that just wants to find the bus.

B7th:

Eli Shaw came in for IU and he got the first out on an infield pop up that was almost misplayed by IU. Another homer made it 14-7 ISU and IU has given up 40 homers in 21 games with a couple of innings still left in this game. IU got out of the inning with no further damage done, but at this point is really doesn't matter since ISU is not going to play Little League-type baseball.

End of 7th: ISU 14 IU 7

8th inning:

T8th:

Stadler reached on a close play at 1st and ISU challenged, and Stadler was ruled out on the review. A flyout by Oliver resulted in two outs and no one on. A long foul out retired the side as IU goes down meekly yet again.

B8th:

RHP Jacob Vogel relieved Shaw. Vogel hit a batter and the leadoff hitter was on. A little blooper past Oliver at 2B put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A WP moved the runner on 2nd to 3rd. A groundout to 1st got the first out with the runners at 2nd and 3rd. A short flyout resulted in out No. 2 with the runners still on 2nd and 3rd.

Vogel then walked a batter to load the bases and IU decided to replace Vogel with Drew Buhr.

An error on Oliver allowed a runner to score to make it 15-7 and the bases still loaded. A flyout ended the inning.

End of 8: ISU 15 IU 7

It was the 2 thru 4 hitters up and IU goes down in order to end the game and IU can't get to the bus soon enough.

Final: ISU 15 IU 7

What a pathetic game and we are headed into B1G play coming off a real stinker of a game. We hit a bunch of singles while ISU hammered five homers and they tied the game at 6-6 with all of their runs to that point coming off homers. It wasn't a fair fight after the 5th inning. A strong wind was blowing out to right center, but when you are hitting nothing but singles then the wind didn't matter. All 10 of our hits were singles. We built a 6-0 lead on those singles but it was quickly erased by homers that made it 6-6 in the 5th. We got the lead back at 7-6 but things really fell apart after that when a lost fly ball in RF fell for a double when it should have been the final out, and it cleared a bases loaded situation, and the onslaught was on after that.

Our pitching staff is averaging almost two homers a game and we have given up 40 homers on the season in just 21 games. We have hit 25 homers compared to that 40 homer number we have given up. We are dead last in the B1G in fielding and we solidified our hold on that ranking by having three more errors to go along with the mental errors we had in the game. Our team ERA in the B1G may have passed last place Michigan after this game.

This has the rancid smell of the team that plays in Assembly Hall.

Ouch. Mercer needs to right this ship quickly! These are all his guys and his pitching coach that he was praising early in the season. He needs to step up and get more outta these guys.

I saw that Michigan lost to Eastern Michigan 14-4 today so they probably saved us from taking over last place in the team ERA category.

D1baseball has been more positive than negative on IU's season, but it sounds like they are now jumping ship on that.

— There are some alarm bells for Indiana

I try not to get caught up in midweek results too much, but Indiana is in a world of hurt on the mound right now. The Hoosiers have allowed double digit runs five of their last seven games and have lost five of their last seven as well after getting pasted by Indiana State, 15-7 on Tuesday. The Sycamores got a monster offensive game from Mike Sears, who hit a double, home run and knocked in six runs, while Randal Diaz, Luis Hernandez, Parker Stinson, and Adam Pottinger each added home runs as well. IU is now sitting at 11-10 overall, while the Sycs are an impressive 15-4.

Whatever they are doing pitching wise isn’t working. Moffitt was a portal experiment but I think tonghini had good numbers. Then our only returning pitcher who has been effective is bothwell (I guess foley with exception of last outing). Does bothwell steer clear of Glant? And Kraft what has happened to him??

I love bothwell, but he had 2-3 great outings last year and is a 6th year senior so I’d hope he could figure it out by now. The rest of the returning guys seem to have paused in their growth, using Kraft as a key example. Foley will be fine simply on ridiculous stuff. But I go back a few years when our 3 weekend rotation and 2 relievers all got drafted and we went from hosting to out in a matter of weeks. This year an unstoppable offensive has sputtered and the massive arms are falling apart. One piece needs to figure it out and we have a chance. But this is tough.
