Foley was back out there to face the 3 thru 5 hitters and his PC was at 82. He got the leadoff hitter on a flyout. Foley then gave up a walk on a 3-1 count.

8th inning:

T8th:

RHP Brayden Risedorph relieved Foley and he had an ERA of 10.80 in 16.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.74 and he would face the bottom of the order.

Risedorph walked the leadoff hitter on a full count. Risedorph then got a groundout with the runner on 1st taking 2nd and one out.

A single scored the runner from 2nd and there is a runner on 1st and one out.

Against the weak hitting bottom of the order, Risedorph has given up a walk, a groundout, and a single to score the walk, and we are now at the top of the order. Hopefully, we are not going to blow our lead which took us 7 innings to build up.

A FC got the runner at 2nd with two outs and a runner on 1st. Risedorph then got a K to retire the side, and after having a shaky start to the inning, he recovered to limit the damage.

B8th:

It's the bottom of the order up for IU and Illinois went to the bullpen again and brought in RHP Will Lavin with an ERA of 7.56 in 8.1 Ip and a WHIP of 1.80.

Brenczewski singled to lead off the inning. Murrison pinch ran for Brenczewski.

Oliver singled to CF to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, and the Illini went to the bullpen again to bring in RHP Kory Bunselmeyer with an ERA of 4.70 in 7.2 IP and a WHIP of 1.03.

Burckel came in to pinch hit for Wiggins and on a SAC bunt a bad throw by the 3rd baseman both Oliver and Murrison scored two unearned runs.

Mathison walked on four pitches.

A SAC bunt by Cerny scored Burckel which was also ruled unearned to make it 7-1 IU with one out with Mathison taking 2nd.

Taylor walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and the Illini went to the bullpen again.

The Illini brought in LHP Evan Clark with an ERA of 2.45 in 3.2 IP and a WHIP of 2.19, and he faced Tibbitts.

Tibbitts Kd on a full count. Both Taylor and Mathison stole 2nd and 3rd with two outs.

Mathison stole home with Taylor moving to 3rd on a balk. Mitchell Kd to end the inning.

End of 8th: IU 8 Illini 1

Risedorph was back out there to try and close it out and he would face the 3 thru 5 hitters.

Risedorph had a much better inning and he put them down in order to include a K to end the game.

Final: IU 8 Illinois 1

Much better but Risedorph did not pitch great and struggled from behind at first. Illinois boards must look a lot like this one did last night as they handed us the game. Not out of the woods but you have to start somewhere

IU got a tremendous game out of Foley today and he held down the Illini hitters through 7 innings, giving IU a chance to build a lead after another slow start at the plate. We had a somewhat rare no-error game which was an improvement even if it was just for one game, while the Illini had three errors. Of the eight runs scored by IU today, we were credited with just five RBIs.

IU outhit the Illini 9-3 and we were 9 of 32 for a team average of .281. The Illini were 3 of 29 for .103.

Mitchell, Brenczewski, and Oliver were the only multi-hit players today with two apiece. Pyne was the only player with multiple RBIs and he had two. There were no homers today by either team and the only extra base hits that IU had were two doubles with Taylor and Pyne have one apiece.

Foley had a huge game and just may be the B1G Pitcher of the Week. In 7 IP, he gave up just two hits and they were a double to the very first batter he faced in the game and he stranded him at 2nd in the 1st inning, and he then gave up a two-out single in the 5th inning and that was it. He Kd 10.

Risedorph got off to a shaky start in the 8th in relief of Foley and gave up the only run the Illini would get in the game, but he settled down and was able to limit the damage to the one run. He pitched well in the 9th in putting them down in order.

Foley (W) - 7.0 IP, two hits to include the game opening double and no earned runs, 10 Ks, and 2 BBs. The rest of his slate was clean.

Risedorph - 2.0 IP, 1 hit and 1 earned run, 2 Ks, and 1 BB. The rest of his slate was clean.
