I'm not for anybody at the moment. I think there is something to be said the for a guy who has won national championhips 4 times at such a young age. Anybody like that would have to be super organized, be a good x and o guy, be a good teacher, and likely works his ass off.
In a perfect world Bruce Pearl would be the next coach IMO. Because we are no longer recognizing most forms of cheating in recruiting (i.e., it is a free for all), then why not him? He's won everywhere, recruits like a mofo and has some juice.
If you were looking for a short term solution to stablize a program and get over a bit of hump, why not look at PItiino? Maybe not ideal in our circumstance, but what he has done at St. Johns is really impressive. Not pinning for him either, but he's a winner.
I think we can all agree that we don't want a coach falling asleep during a recruit visit, who maybe doesn't show up at practice on time and who can't recruit guards to save his life. HS recruiting in basketball still matters, especially with the instate kids.
I’m warming to McCollum, but I understand the fan base trepidation after the Archie debacle. A Brey type would absolutely lose the fan base, and many have already been lost.
Different sport, different school, different expectations.
KU football isn't IU basketball, obviously. Standards are different.
Leipold is to Kansas what Bill Mallory was to IU.

I guess our coaches thought it was better to have guys who were quick and could play defense but couldn't shoot.
I know people think I'm nuts, but I blame part of our shooting woes on Cook Hall. That's where we practice, guys go there to shoot on their own, etc. Used to be all practices were at Aseembly Hall. Way different shooting atmosphere at the two places. Just seems odd our shooting has gone to shit since Cook opened.

Where were the quick guys that could play defense? If you're going to pick one over the other, at least go all in on what you picked.
I don’t think this is nuts at all. Practice where you play. Background is important. Even then, the crowd background can make a difference versus shooting in an empty gym.
Back in the day, John Laskowski said that they loved to play at Illinois. The seating areas were not well-lit, thus darkening the areas behind the baskets. IU scored over 100 points in both the 73-74 and 74-75 seasons. Perfect background for shooters. I remember how dark it looked on TV.
Purdue always seemed dark to me, too. Same thing - I think they kept the seating areas darker, with light on the court.

I played on that court a few times as a kid, but the lighting was turned up throughout. It wasn't nearly as cavernous as AH seems to be when you're on that floor. I agree with your opinion about shooting in Cook instead of AH.
I convinced my daughter to go with her friends to a Purdue basketball camp. Her friends were neighbors and big Purdue fans. And Purdue women were really good at the time. I told her just to go and learn something.
The last day of camp, they had awards day, so I went and sat in the stands. After the awards, they announced that the campers could line up and get autographs from the PU women's team.
My daughter comes running up the stands to me and says "Let's go". I said "Aren't you going to get some autographs?". "No. Let's go".
I'm so proud of that girl.
I went to Keady's camp there in the summer before my freshman year. I'm glad I did, because things just clicked for me mid-week and it changed me as a player. It wasn't from anything Keady said though. He did a welcome speech on Day 1 and handed me a trophy on the last day. The only times I saw him for the week.
I still owe my parents $150 for sending me. But in my defense, I did tell them I'd pay them back when I made the NBA, so technically I think I'm in the clear.

The Pearl ship sailed long ago. I was pushing him when we hired Davis, Sampson, Crean, and Miller. Maybe even Woodson.
But he would clash with the culture at IU. And, at this point, he’s at a place in his career where I seriously doubt he’d want to take on a job like Indiana’s.
I’d really appreciate hearing from someone who can make the definitive case for Brownell. What am I missing here wrt him and his career? Seems like such a “meh” hire; you know, we’re bringing in a new head for the Geology department here at the old state school. * Polite clapping *
Where’s the fire? Remember “Purdue sucks and so does Michigan and Ohio State!”?
Is Brownell some great recruiter and talent developer? Has he won because of his technical ability and beating more talented teams? Are his teams tough and great defensively? Does he run an efficient offense, getting the ball to great shooters? Can he get guys to crash the boards? Does he recruit great guards, who can distribute but also create on their own?
Brownell just doesn’t seem like a coach at the top of everybody’s top coaches list. Hope I’m wrong, but this might be the guy.
Much rather have Pearl or Beard.

Not even gonna get a step above mediocrity with Brownell.
Brownell and McDermott would be unmitigated disasters. That said no one has a clue who Dolson is hiring. Expect it to be a name that was mentioned but that no one expected to be hired. Not Beard or Wade unfortunately. Someone like Otz or Few.
Probably not. Someone out of left field that has been mentioned and everyone has been mentioned but that no one is expecting.
