IU basketball

And you might have a good basketball team to follow . . .
People love it. Beautiful horse country. Sec sports. Big time hoops. That money lars set aside for tuition can go to a boy racer.

Now that he’s pissed me off I want her to go to Loyola of Chicago and demand an off campus apt

Ok ok. Go on. I don't usually negotiate with terrorists but if there's a financial savings.....

Had some good nights in Lexington, if I'm being honest. And days at Keeneland
my buddy played loved uk. another buddy and i took a recruiting trip to louisville. we went out fri night and were supposed to scrimmage with the team the next day. i had no interest but he really wanted to play there. so fri night we got absolutely bombed. he got a dwi and i got a minor in possession. assistant coach came to the station to bail us out. next day i refused to play and just sat next to the field but to his credit my buddy dressed out and played. coach offered both of us schollies. place was horrible. it's been a long time. i imagine it's better now

Lars, you might need one of these in McMurt's pics to get what is in mine.

Top one is the 40th anniversary clubsport version that you can't (of ****ing course) buy in the US. My GTI is a different color. Who buys white unless it's a Honda.

BMW pisses me off anymore, however, the new Z4 (wtih a 6 speed manual) looks tasty. 380 hp, etc.

Honestly, I'm in the market (over the next few years depending on the deal and the money my wife and daughter will extract from me) for the following:

Early 2000's Honda S2000 AP1 (first version, 9,000 redline.....).

Entry point is 20k but for a decent version, 30k. It is, however, a Honda and will run forever.

Honda-S2000-For-Sale-728129.jpg

BMW E46 M3

Another Mid aughts vehicle with a near 9k redline (catching a pattern here). The entry point is 30-40k plus another 10k for required repairs/maintenance b/c she's a touchy bitch. This one would require the child to get a bigger scholarship and me to not get fired and possibly a bigger bonus.

cover_bmw-e46-m3-csl-on-dyler-com.jpg

Toyota GR 86 (likely used)

Entry point still around 20k but it will drop. AGain, toyota so go ahead and beat it to shit. RWD, 6 speed, 220 hp no turbo, 7.5k redline. LInear power curve., etc.

toyo2.jpg

And a darkhorse, depending on cost and reliaiblity (which I'll be paying attention to:

Porsche 718 Cayman. Mid 2010's. 40k ish entry point. Decent reliaiblity so far (meaning most issues are known and the aftermarket peeps have figured out solutions). This one and the M3 are truly the dream.

Now, for those of you who say Miata Is Always The Answer (also if you've ever wondered why the word Miata exists......), if you're over 6' it's a no go zone. Which does truly suck.

I see someone else here was a regular Jalopnik reader. Wagon, brown, with a manual.

I still see the Audi A8 wagons. My god what I would do.

Also this thing if you can find one with the S54 engine b/c it weghs LESS than the M3, is a convertible, and is near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Don't get me wrong, all the same problems as the M3 but no roof.

That things weighs like 3200 lbs.

Also, obvious Jalopnik reader here. Still hate Peter Thiel for his bullshit with Gawker.

Can you really be in without a divorce and/or illegitimate child? I’m asking about his bona fides here.
True. The only first divorce I'll have is 17 years behind me. The new wife and I are locked in a mutually assured destruction pact. I am interested to see how the dynamics change once our child isn't in our house 7 days a week in about 6 months.

My god! The empty nest household is frightening. I’m still a few years away, but man, that thought lingers.

I'm in the same boat kid-wise. My son is a sophomore in college and my daughter will be in college in the fall. I'm not married, but in a long-distance relationship. Who knows - maybe I"ll up and move when nothing is tethering me to where I am and it won't be a long distance relationship anymore.

Columbus long distance?

It's bittersweet for me. I'll miss my kids, but I'm also kind of ready for the next chapter where I can largely do whatever I want. I imagine it'll be even better when both my kids are out of college. My daughter did college credit plus classes and will essentially start college as a sophomore. That means I'll have a junior and sophomore in college next fall. I'm in the home stretch....

It is good and bad. The bad: you miss the noise; you miss the kids and then you are forced to sit and stare at each other and say "what do we do now". The good: No noise; nobody coming home at 2:30 am.; no extra laundry; food bills drop; and not stewing because your kids aren't up yet at 11:00 a.m.

And you’re still down in Athens? Shit that is long distance. You’re not even near an airport. Ugh
It's not too bad. We've met in Indy and we both have some flexibility to work remotely. I was up there last Wednesday - Sunday and she's coming here for a long weekend the weekend after this one.

Philly was an hour further away and I made that work for almost 4 years.

You’re not doing it right.

Empty-nester sex. Kitchen, dining room, den, living room, garage . . .

It took me time to adjust to empty nest, I loved being dad. College was hard, the moment I got into the groove, they would come home for Christmas or Spring Break and then I would go back into depression.

After that, it became easier. They all live in Indy. We rotate seeing one of the three each month. Then we all get together every couple/three months.

Yep. And as I mentioned above, I'll have even more flexibility relatively soon with both my kids off to college. I'm probably going to sell my house in the next few months. I've also been sniffing around jobs that are exclusively remote.

The reason things didn't work out with the Philly woman was that she moved home to Traverse City and wanted me to move there. That was a few years ago and I wasn't about to move away from where my kids are. She didn't want to wait.

It’s the sitting and staring at each other that scares me the most. Oh, and then the talking and the talking about how I won’t talk to her enough. Oh god!
