An article in the Indystar, and I didn't read article because it requires a subscription but the headline says that Woody is leaving IU in a better place than when he got here. I'm curious of people's opinions on that.

I think we're in pretty much the same place, as in mired in mediocrity, underperforming and hoping to squeak into the tournament which is pathetic. I'd argue that Woody has far more talent at his disposal than Lil Arch did but you could chalk that up to our vast NIL dollars and literal ability to buy kids like Ballo and Tucker and Rice rather than anything Woody has done. I'll let someone else compare records, recruiting stars etc but I can't honestly think of a single thing Woody has done to put us in a better place than when he got here. I mean we have one of the highest payrolls in the game and we're still be begging to get into the NCAA tournament.

No not at all. There was no culture or foundation built in the least. By all accounts he built no relationships with Indiana HS coaches at all. All he really did was buy players and hope for the best.

Most everyone can see past a media fluff to piece.

worse off than we were 4 years ago, he inherited a talented roster, the new coach wont. silver lining is you can build a roster, basically in a couple of weeks. overall, we are basically the same as when he took the job,

I think we're in a little better place, Woodson was better than Archie. Made the tournament (barely) 3 out of 4 years (probably) and no 1-12 stretches, or whatever Archie had. Slightly better overall win percentage. But still far below expectations or program history. And Woodson had NIL and spent a lot of it. I would not say he built any kind of solid program for the next coach, more just treaded water.

Absolutely not. The program lost it's identity under Woodson. The only thing IU basketball is known for currently is a top tier payroll.

Woodson inherited one of the top 3 players in the nat

The only guys not in the portal when Woody was hired were Trey and Leal, so while he did convince TJD to stay, he was in the portal, along with everyone not named Galloway and Leal when he was hire.

New guy may or may not have more than 2 guys to start with, and will probably have guys he can bring with him as well.

Not a huge Woodson fan, but as a whole, the program is at least on par with what it was with Miller, and slightly better results on the floor

With NIL and the portal, every year is a startover season with new players.

What’s been the common denominator the last 4 seasons at IU? Same coach. Different players. Same results.

I like IU’s chances with a new coach and new pieces. And, the pieces that stay? I like the new coach’s ability to actually develop and improve the existing players.

We certainly haven’t had that under Woody. Maybe TJD was an exception but that kid had a load of talent. Not so sure how much Woody developed him or was it just natural improvement as time went on?

I think Woody benefited from TJD far more than the other way around. If TJD had not come back, that first team would have been very weak and would not have made the tournament.

Really tough for an outsider to say so, as there doesn’t appear to be an obvious difference. We maybe have a little better exposure during Woodson’s time. Slightly more competitive teams during his time, though not by much. NIL support seems to be in good shape since the admin had to try to make up for his lack of coaching acumen. But our HS recruiting has taken a hit.

Really, it’s irrelevant. A very good coach can turn all the negatives around in 1-2 years and have us right back on top!
