Is this game likely to be canceled? Nebraska canceled their game..

This is another area where "social media" and the internet has not been helpful.

In the past, we'd just live our lives and be prepared.

Now, a week out from anything, we can get weather reports.
We obsess all week.
99% of the time, it sounds worse than it is.

Guaranteed our crowd will be down because by now everybody expects armageddon-ish flooding and lighting.

I've already made funeral plans, since I'll probably drown on the way home, if I ever make it to Bloomington!

I miss Marcia Yockey.
She'd have told us exactly when it would start and stop.
It's a last-minute decision for me. Light rain, I'm making the drip. If it's pouring buckets at 5 pm tomorrow and the forecast is calling for 4 more hours of the same, I'm watching from the recliner. I love the Hoosiers and I have been waiting for the home opener for months but I'm just not sitting through a monsoon.

I agree that the forecast has probably already seriously diminished the crowd but I don't blame anyone who doesn't show. Pouring rain not only means misery for the fans, it means shitty football as well.

Marcia Yockey scared the hell out of me when I was a child, but I still remember that giant map of the US with those hand-drawn frontal boundaries and temperatures splattered all over it. My grandparents swore by her forecasts. She was a legend in southern Indiana. Quite a blast from the past - a name I haven't thought about in forty or fifty years.

She'd also give the river and Kentucky/Barkley Lake levels above and below the dams - for the fishermen.

I just learned who she was thanks to this thread! Growing up in Jeffersonville, our news was obviously from Louisville and I never saw this lady.

She seems like an icon in Evansville!

I'm really worried that we are more likely to lose because of this weather. Maybe a monsoon helps us best OSU, but I think we are the better team here and the rain only serves to minimize that advantage.

I can understand this concern but one thing we do have an advantage on with team is our OL. There hasn't been much talk (outside of Cronk and Martin getting weekly recognition)but they looked REALLY good last weekend. Even the announcers kept pointing out how they were driving the DL backwards all day. One replay they showed I literally laughed out loud because our entire line pushed their line 3 yards backwards and two of our guys put 2 of them on their backside before the RB got there. It was amazing. I think if both teams are stuck running the ball, we will hold out in the end. Just have to limit the turnovers and run it up the middle with Stevie.

I think it would have been a great opportunity to do a themed last minute ticket promotion just to counter this (ie something 4” of rain, $4 dollar ticket). It’s a rare weather event so no real consequence for future sales. Just get people in the gates. Far outweighs the visual of sitting at home seeing empty bleachers and the effects for the team would be huge. Surreal feel with weather and full stadium aka Michigan years back.

Oh my goodness, I loved Marcia Yockey weather. I grew up in Newburgh and would occasionally see her riding her bike into work. She was quite the weather personality!
