Rourke Out

Here is what Coach Cignetti said in presser:
“Cignetti began his postgame press conference by addressing Rourke's injury which forced him to miss the entire second half against Nebraska. Cignetti said the injury did not appear to be muscle or bone related, but it was an issue with Rourke's thumb on his throwing hand.”
It was a savvy PR move by CC to delay the injury announcement until later in the week. Why tarnish the incredible victory today with the bad news?

Even if the thumb is broken and he is out until OSU, Tayven played well. He looked good enough to take on the next 3 opponents. Will be great experience e for next year.
When you’ve waited this long and are as old as I am, there might not be a next year. Hoping for quick healing and a tough performance by Jackson the next 3 plus games. I’m running out of time.

This is where I’m at. Won’t have the RPO/decision making of Rourke, but he has the legs and mobility to add a different dynamic to the offense. He has the tools to make every throw in the book…needs reps.

This team was built to win now. If this is true about Rourke it’s a potential disaster. Let’s not sugarcoat it. This could be Michael Penix 2020 revisited. I’m literally nauseous…
We don’t even know if this is true yet. The coach said taking him out was precautionary in the post game press conference and we haven’t received an update from a valid source yet. Let’s wait and see what’s going on before we start feeling nauseous.

Jackson played very well today. He has some good experience from last year and has much potential.

I would much rather roll with Rourke and what he brings to the table, but I do think Jackson can win the next three games.

Much of that belief comes from knowing just how high quality this coaching staff is.

Tayven isn’t a huge drop down. Relax. This staff is elite. Don’t forgot, an elite offensive staff almost won games with a 4th string QB who couldn’t throw a forward pass about 10 years ago. I have full confidence we’re still scoring 40 a game with Tayven.
The 2014 offense was horrible under Diamont. Tevin Coleman did all the heavy lifting.

I still remain sceptical about a fracture. He hit opposing players arm. No doubt an injury, worth caution and setting out the rest of the blowout. Work for Jackson is a good thing and that's exactly how Cignetti will move forward with it.

They indicated that it was a torn thumbnail. Maybe also a cut on tbe thumb that requires stitches but not broken? It’s on his throwing hand. Can’t just numb it up. It was reported that a nail may have gotten ripped off on a face mask.

It is just a torn thumbnail. He didn't hit a face make but the hand of the defender that was rushing. They would not numb it because then he would not be able to feel the ball when passing it.

Given the fact that he was on the sideline during the 2nd half, I figured it wasn't a break that They would have wanted looked at immediately by an Orthopedic Specialist and set.

The game was still somewhat in doubt at halftime. I kinda doubt he would have been in street clothes if it was just a thumbnail. At a minimum, it suggests they were concerned about the possibility of a fracture…in my opinion.

We’ll find out soon enough, but I’ve resigned myself to not having him for a while. Jackson is a pretty good backup. We’re lucky he stuck around. And I suspect with him getting all the reps at 1, he’ll look even better on Saturday.

I would say we might see an occasional mistake, but there is some upside with Jackson over Rourke. He’s much more of a threat with his legs. Rourke isn’t a statue, by any means, but it should open the playbook a little more. And make the RPOs a little more varied…harder to defend.

Unless it was a Tuft fracture:

A fracture at the tip of the thumb is called a tuft fracture, and it's often caused by a crush injury. Symptoms include:

Severe pain
Swelling
Limited motion or inability to move the thumb
Extreme tenderness
Misshapen or deformed appearance
Sensation of numbness or coldness in the thumb

Treatment for a tuft fracture usually involves wearing a plastic splint for two to four weeks. The splint keeps the bone from moving so it can heal.

It was all the Heisman talk. You bastards jinxed him and us. 😂. Kidding. Kidding. Glad it's not serious. Sounds like he may miss a few games though. But Jackson is a very capable back up. He has the talent and tools. It's the early game decision making that is the question mark with Jackson. He has looked good in the games we've seen him this year but it's always been when the lead was comfortable or the game was pretty much over. He will be asked to "lead" now.

That hail mary made it seem as if a real injury to the thumb, I doubt just the pain of a nail. Made me irritated at the time that they still had him out there if they didn't know yet the situation. But I guess they used their best information. If the nail was torn you'd be thinking at the time that was likely the issue. And he made some throws. Sort of ducky throws, but he had thrown.

Hope for the best. Tayven can do it. A setback though, Rourke has been playing at an elite level.

I know We have a small sample size with Jackson this Year, but Here is what I am seeing. Yesterday was the first time i really saw Him throw the ball. He wasn't aiming it to avoid incompletions. The ball was coming out of his hands quickly with good spin and spiral, and He was hitting his receivers in stride. Compared to earlier in the year when We saw Him, he looks more confident running the Offense. compared to last Year, He looks like He now realizes that the Whole offense doesn't depend on Him. He is surrounded by good skill Players and count on Them to carry part of the load. He just has to get the ball to Them in the right circumstances and let Them make the plays. Finally, I saw good understanding and field maturity from Him on one play. On one of his running plays He took what He could and slid down before a defender could make contact. You could almost see the wheels spinning as He was thinking , We are already down one QB, and I am the one left. Don't be stupid and risk unnecessary injury and contact in the 4th Quarter of a game when You are up by 50 points,
