I'm wondering if this game will be called off if the weather doesn't cooperate. I see where Nebraska apparently called their opener off last weekend because of thunderstorms.
I don't see a scenario that they cancel it unless there's a tornado. Thunderstorms can be played around. Last forcast I saw was a deluge of rain....nothing severe.....just a lot of rain. They'll play through that.I'm wondering if this game will be called off if the weather doesn't cooperate. Cancel a football game because of rain??!! Ummmmm no, that’s not being considered.
This hurricane is widespread. It’s going to affect a lot of games Saturday, not just ours. You don’t cancel football games because of rain in central Indiana. We better be prepared to play in it.
The other issue at work here is the amount and duration of the rain. Drains backing up in and around the stadium, flooded parking lots and city streets, standing water on the field, flooding in the lower concourse, etc. If there is a high probability of steady, heavy rain from Friday on, I could see a cancellation possibility. It's not about playing in the rain or fan discomfort. The concern is a 7:30 pm Kickoff time and probable play stoppages due to the thunderstorms in the area. You get more than one of those and you're talking about suspension of play (they're not gonna keep playing until 5am...), and scrambling to find a bye weekend opponent.
There is a 0% chance they cancel the game before start time on Saturday. Absolutely 0%. It’s rain. The other issue at work here is the amount and duration of the rain. If it's just rain, I'll be there. If it looks like t-storms with likely game delays or a driving rain from start to finish I will hunker down at home and watch on tv. Fortunately, I'm just an hour away so I can make a last-minute decision. Glad I don't have to worry about more extensive travel as many fans do.

Sure it is possible IF it’s accompanied by thunderstorms that they postpone the game, but that’s extremely rare. We’re going to just play through the rain as is often the case in football.
Game postponements due to weather are extremely rare.Extremely rare? You haven't been to or have watched many football games over the past ten years have you.
Nebraska just shut down their Home Opener last weekend.
To simply discount the possibility (especially when there's an 80% probability of it occurring) is foolish in the extreme...
Lightning in the area (within 6 miles) is an "extremely" common reason for game stoppages...
My biggest concern in all of this are the puddles that will be on our new SEZ complex. They cannot simply have puddles for this opening game.
There's a hidden positive. Should be a great stress test on the roofing and drainage associated with the new south endzone complex...
Nebraska did not cancel the game before it started but went through a long weather delay.Extremely rare? You haven't been to or have watched many football games over the past ten years have you.

How many football games have been outright cancelled the last 10 years due to rain? I’d say way less than 0.5% of games. Is that not rare to you?Extremely rare? You haven't been to or have watched many football games over the past ten years have you.

OK guys I'm done wasting your time and mine with this.
My only point in even discussing it was to give Fred's minions the heads up that they do have options (however unpalatable they may be). Those are options are pretty well expiring in the next hour locally (they'd want to get it on the local 5pm news).
Very few teams in the country have the potential option to move their game indoors to a stadium 50 minutes north of them.
Guess it's been decided that's a crummy idea. I hope that's the right call...
It’s not an option. IU has no rights to Lucas Oil Stadium. None. And the Colts open their season Sunday at noon.OK guys I'm done wasting your time and mine with this.

I remember a couple years ago ND playing literally in the eye of a hurricane right on the coast of the Carolinas. I forget who they were playing.
They’re not cancelling this game.

I do remember sitting through the monsoon bucket game with ARE. Water was rushing down the stairs.
The field actually took the water relatively well considering they don't have the pump systems like Iowa. The sidelines were a lake late in the game.
I was at that game. The bathrooms were the only warm place to stay. The women were packed in the restrooms trying to stay warm.
Alrighty then. This is another area where "social media" and the internet has not been helpful.
In the past, we'd just live our lives and be prepared.
Now, a week out from anything, we can get weather reports.
We obsess all week.
99% of the time, it sounds worse than it is.
Guaranteed our crowd will be down because by now everybody expects armageddon-ish flooding and lighting.
I've already made funeral plans, since I'll probably drown on the way home, if I ever make it to Bloomington!
I miss Marcia Yockey.
She'd have told us exactly when it would start and stop.
Marcia Yockey scared the hell out of me when I was a child, but I still remember that giant map of the US with those hand-drawn frontal boundaries and temperatures splattered all over it. My grandparents swore by her forecasts. She was a legend in southern Indiana. Quite a blast from the past - a name I haven't thought about in forty or fifty years. This is another area where "social media" and the internet has not been helpful.
