Look at all that dead weight sitting around him!So? Who cares what "national people" think or say?
How does that impact IU at all?
I think I could defend the firing pretty easily and so could SD.

No promises. I love ball movement.Either BucketGetter or IUNorth (both have coaching experience) would be an upgrade over what we have now so long as IUNorth pledged not to start Cupps if he comes back.
Even in that case still betterNo promises. I love ball movement.
Good question...as I think about it more, probably not as much as many worry about, obviously including me.So? Who cares what "national people" think or say?

I just don't think the smoke is worth what the fire would produce for us, right now.
Indiana legend.
13-4, 4-2
Technically still in the thick of B10 and NCAA races
Malik is out
Its just not a good time.
My prediction is the only way they do it before seasons end, is if we get to a point, more than a week or so before end of season, where we're locked in to the bottom 5 in conference...meaning no NCAA, AND no B10 tournament. I think if that happens, and they have more than a few days to gain from it, I could see it happening. But that's unlikely, I would say. They'd probably have to lose their next 10 games or so for that to happen.
The problem is his assistant coaches are just as bad as he is. Maybe even worse. There isn't one player on this team I want back next year. Not one.I ask this seriously.
We are looking at an absolute shit show. A team with more innate talent then anyone else in the B10 and we keep getting blown out, or perhaps the best spin is that we play to level of our opponents, the ones that suck (thank you for that line Hysterics).
None of the players would walk because the money is too good. And even a mediocre coach couldn't do any worse than this. Let Ya or Walsh be an interim coach and with this amount of talent they have, their performance would only improve. And if either did OK, we'd have an excellent young hire. I suspect most of the hired guns would stay for the NIL.
The risk/reward equation is clear. There is zero risk in canning him immediately as I really can't see a downside other than wasting a bunch of $$$ with a buy out.
Is there a downside?
The record is so deceiving because the wins are against bad competition. 3 of the 4 big ten wins are against bottom dwellers.Start to slide? 13 wins and a dozen of them are not quad 1.
So all good so far eh? Only if we lose a couple more should I start to be concerned?
And if we win out, you let him go? RidiculousOnly downside is if we don’t make it plain the replacement is Interim, PERIOD.
Yes. You thank him for a successful season and achieving what he was hired to do. Now we move on....And if we win out, you let him go? Ridiculous
It would be a good problem to have...I guess, as it would mean something on the court to be excited about. But If I were Dolson, and I let Woodson go before the season ended...I'd name Ya or Hunter the interim guy, assuming they'd stay and take it. Much less pressure to keep either of them if IU would somehow turn it around and have a miracle run of some sort, than if they went with Cheaney. And if we win out, you let him go? Ridiculous
I get that, but in our four losses we got smoked.Schools don’t fire coaches who are 13-4 and 4-2 in conference in January. There is zero upside and the optics would be terrible. Not to mention what might happen if some interim coach had some success over a 16 game stretch. Nothing good would come of terminating Woodson, other than making a bunch of message board posters happy.
I'm not convinced it would happen before March 9th - even if we lose out. I just don't think we've (Dolson, Whitten, BOT, and esp QB) got the stomach for the national backlash. Nobody but us knows this record is a scam. Just like the reverse in football. Nobody but us knew they were badasses and the teams they thumped were actually decent football teams before we stole their spirit. About all we can do now is sit and wait for the season to tank and Woody to shat himself a few more times. We should be pretty good at this drill by now.
Yes. 100%…. We know what we have on the bench and a magical run doesn’t change that. Locking into a coach after a magical run would be the exact mindset that got us here in the first place. Get him a good going away gift and say happy trails to you!And if we win out, you let him go? Ridiculous
However, I am with North in that I think the idea of making a move now is extremely bad optics. Yes coaches are confident and yes we could explain ourselves, but we may not get an opportunity if they simply look at the numbers and think we are an unrealistic lynch mob.Yes. 100%…. Did I say White? I meant Golden. But White has had an impressive season this year at UGAYou probably know he's at Georgia now, and that is a fun team to watch, believe it or not. Have taken down #6 UK and # 17 Oklahoma in a week.
NopeI ask this seriously.
