Is Thad Matta a bust at Butler

Tough conference for Butler and they have very little NIL. It’s a tough situation.
Matta's first rate. Probably due to NIL and maybe Butler's commitment to it.
Matta's best years are behind him. He resigned for heath reasons and has not regained his former performance since. He would have been a good hire instead of Crean, probably.
Hard to recruit with no NIL but they have played teams tough a couple players away from Matta turning them into a 20 win team.
I'm sure the man's coaching the same way he always did. Just doesn't have the tools now.
With the resources he'd have here he'd dominate. We missed the boat on him 4 years ago. Big mistake.
IIRC he could barely walk due to back pain? How would he have run practices or coached a season? In a wheelchair?
I watched a butler game a few weeks ago. Didn't notice a wheel chair.
I find it hard to believe they will suffer from lack of NIL money. I always thought Butler had a fair number of well off alums who support the school. Maybe lower than the large schools, but I'll bet they can shop wisely and do well.
They were trending way down before Matta. It's tough situation to rebuild. Marq, Creighton, Johnnies, UConn, heck even X are all tough to beat. Makes it hard to climb uphill.
so, you think a non-broken down Greg oden with Mike Conley and a few high school Americans mixed in should have similar results to butler 2025
He should have been hired in April of 2005 to become IU's next head coach. But Marco Killingsworth was the savior to be. IU would have been great had they made that switch then.
Yes he should have but Davis last year took a massive hit when dj white went down early. They still made the tourney but that could of been a pretty darn good team with white. I think they were picked to win the big ten before white went down.
They were 5-0 with the DJ in the mix. UIndu exhibition game was first break and then vs OSU at home the second. 9-7 in conference could have been 12-4 probably so I agree. Whats cool, Bracey could have been a senior on that team. DJ-Marco-Vaden-Bracey and the calloway-strick -monroe at pg
Yep people rip on Davis but that could of been a pretty good team. Davis wasn't a horrible coach. I certainly think he was better than archie. He had a 58% record in conference. People act like we was 30%.
It was just so difficult to watch his later teams play when it was his recruits.
Saying 'help is on the way' was about as useful for Coach Davis as 'true fans' was for Coach Woodson.
After that they became the objects of ridicule by our fans, whether or not it was fair.
