Is it too soon for the 2025 coach thread?

What gives me hope is Dolson will likely be given free rein to hire the next coach and there should be a good amount of NIL $ to attract a qualified one.

Offense looked a little better early on. Then he emptied the benches.

And then there’s our defense.

Game 2. Early. Blah blah. But it’s clear he isn’t doing anything differently this year. So we’ll get a bump from the individual talent and the depth. But that’ll only take us so far.

How much did this E Illinois team lose to Illinois by? 50?

The last media timeout the looks on the faces of that staff. Mike Woodson has one way of doing things and it appears to be underwhelming. The scary part, non of this will change.

Oh yeah, nothing will change. We’ll see the same thing until March.

the answers are obvious. And when we play that way, we’re pretty good. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen consistently enough. We’d have been down 20 to a decent P4 team.
Efficiency was good enough that IU went up four spots, went up in def, down in off. The first half was severely rough, but the end result is what was expected and a positive net.

Take the win...

It's noticeable. From the AP article:

Indiana: Another double-digit win over an outmanned midmajor program was far from encouraging when considering the Hoosiers struggled to defend the 3-point line early and didn't take control of this game until a few minutes into the second half. Far more is expected.

For sure. And last year these early games stayed close. I just hate how we “look” right now. Same old plodding Woodson team, with guys that are built to move and attack more.

They definitely turned it on in 2nd half though.

Agree. Yea, I'm not really enjoying it either.

Smaller lineups are harder to guard and much easier to watch. I don't mind double post, if used correctly but having Ballo low post as a scorer isn't. He's just not that guy. Unless he's deep 1 v 1 he doesn't have much and I don't trust him passing out of doubles. He's much better on the roll.

The only new tricks I'm seeing in half court sets is some secondary action off the high low which seems to be our half court main option.. not to free up shooters, but adding a screen for a cutter or adding a screen for a big on the block. IU needs to find ways to open up shooters in half court.. I love that they have the green light in transition, but that will only go so far ..

The offense is a work in progress. They are not afraid to shoot. Good to see the 2nd half ,they were having fun. Good to see Goode and Carlyle knock down the three. Love the defense holding Eastern to 55 pts. They will put together a good game for 40 mins .They could be a dangerous team by March. GO Hoosiers.

The first half was certainly cause for concern. The same lethargic team we’re too used to seeing. Looked like they were playing with a hangover. Must’ve been out partying with the football team.

On the other hand, the second half showed how good we can be.

Another hallmark of Woodsons teams thus far…inconsistency.

Both in effort and execution. But inexplicably, also in the stuff we run offensively. If it isn’t obvious to everyone in that coaching room that this team is much better when moving the ball and people around the perimeter…well I have no clue because it is obvious, and has been since early in Woodsons tenure at IU. Yet this team, like all his others, spend long stretches ISOing, and staring down at one of the big men in the post.

So damn frustrating. We could be so darn good.

Shhhh...you will look less stupid

Really dumbass? Would that team shoot out of their minds for one half, and then come back to reality, too? Also...even if they were down 20...they would have still won by 15. You sound stupid

Why? The first half didnt happen?
The 2nd half didn't happen?...the 35 point win didn't happen? Wins is what we are going for right?....You don't get shit for winning the first half do you?

You are an example of why the players hate the fans. Congratulations

Facts?? We beat a team that is god awful and trailed at half. You have no clue about basketball if you watch us and think we are well coached
The game is 40 minutes not 20, and while you accuse people of ignoring the 1st half you ignore the 2nd. That's called hypocrisy. IU won by 45, same as Illinois and went up in efficiency. the 1st half doesn't matter in the win column and the game is a very small positive in the ranking systems. Take a seat, STFU and whine when there's actually something to whine about.
