I can buy a three-year window as being somewhat useful if you provided those isolated statistics (please do), but they are likely to mostly capture turmoil rather than changes that have taken root. Even then, you need to examine more than just new business applications related to population size. What was the existing trajectory? What are the industry trends in relation to the industries that have matured in the state? What's the impact on state's employment? The state's GDP?

that's why applications alone are a difficult measure. businesses are leaving california. a survey from mckenna showed the net loss as marked between I believe 2009 and 2020 it was. large companies are exiting as well. remember calif has advantages that are massive and it should perform exceptionally well. guns, germs, and steel stuff. but the over regulation, over taxing, insane laws like the private ag law, leave little to the imagination as to why companies are leaving. covid only accelerated this process, as set forth in the attached. a slowing in the population surge is lipstick on poor policy and untenable conditions for too many people
