Inflation - 40 Year High

Respect man. Has to be hot. Let's say someone started doing that at age 20. Do many guys make it to 55 or does the body break down?
Lots of guys still here from day 1. One is on year 49. Lots of guys retire after 35 - 40. years. Most that stay have moved to the less intensive areas. Most workers get the mechanical ailments. 62-70 ages. That guy that’s on year 49 is drawing full social security and still works 50-60 hrs a week. 🤣

That's great. I have friends who worked at Chrysler right out of high school and did great like that. Sunday's holidays etc.

Do kids today want to work that hard? Are you able to find them?

Ps. I've been impressed by your posts. I'll be adding you to the list of men on the board
It’s getting harder to find kids. A lot of the good ones went back to underground coal. We just hired a bunch of Mexicans and translators. Going to be interesting safety wise not work wise.

Calm down Jose.

What percentage of the infrastructure bill is earmarked for maritime?

We need to prioritize acquisition of trade infrastructure. It needs to be of top quality, it needs to allow for faster connectivity with the area of a port in which materials for export and import are stored.
We need to do this at a fast pace...not a government crawl.

I think Marv has previously discussed the fact that we are lagging.
I posted a while back our ports cannot handle the number of containers carried by ships today.

Lot of those guys take a month of paternity leave after their first few months on the job?

Perfect. Mexicans are very hard workers. They absorb the son better too
There was a Mexican crew dredging the lake at the end of our cove. The guy could have brought in a machine but the Mexican crew using buckets - literally scooping mud with buckets and passing them up - was cheaper. Those guys worked like dogs for very little money.

I had a new roof put on a few years ago. Guy brought his crew of Hispanic-looking guys - I didn't ask for papers - and they got the job done in 2 days. My neighbor paid about $5k more and employed local guys and it took them about a week.

I try to hire locally and will pay more for local help. But damned if I'll pay that much more so local guys can come in hungover and screw around most of the day instead of getting the job done.

With the labor shortage in this country, I don't understand why we don't have a better work permit program for manual and service jobs.

It sure didn't stop the government from keeping IT salaries down by bringing in H1B workers and putting many of us out of work (which is why I took the early retirement at age 58 - the writing was on the wall. Company got sold a little while later and massive layoffs).

And crazy polite. I'm with you. These people are willing to run on top of a train, cross rivers, and march through deserts while carrying a baby sign them up and get them a work permit. I actually have a meeting tomorrow to contract our first mexican factory

Thread on inflation with discussions about everything from peanut butter to Mexicans with no comment about the Federal Reserve Board.

Where is JDB when we need him ?

Thats why we should trade. Send liberal America-hating Socialism-loving Democrats south, and let hard working America-loving immigrants in. Hell, I’d go 3-for-1.

Just had a deck built around my pool, the guy I knew brought a crew of Mexican's that finished the entire job in 2 days. I had two other quotes from local guys that did not employ Mexican's and one was a friend of mine for 40 years they both were around 6k higher than what I paid.

Sometimes the local guys get one job and sit on it for the month but charge enough to make it to the next month. I told my friend I wasn't in the business of paying all his bills for the month of May. lol

They will have a couple of gas station jalapeño hot dogs before doing your yard work.
That made me literally laugh out loud. And so true. The owner is a real neat old guy who sometimes wears a Mexican National team jersey. When he does I go out there to give him shit. Mexico's best days are over. USA better now. USA is the future of the region. Mexico is old.

Ohhhhh you think so. I old too. I hope I not so old I forget to close gate for dog. Lol. Now whenever he leaves I check. He got me good

Most of my family are nailpounders. That's kind of the rub with all that stuff. No education. Pay is good but it's horrible work and one blown disc and you're f'd.
I know way too many UPS lifers who are crippled by the time they hit 50. Blown back or knee or hip and they're sunk. They make a killing but pay the price.

Oh for sure. Seems great when you are young. No tuition lost income. But risky and the back end can be rough

The House passed the Ocean Shipping Reform Act.
Looks like one of many changes is to try to use inland ports since land around coastal ports is very expensive. But I haven't seen how to do that, how to get material from the ocean inland without using the overcrowded coastal ports.

Second that motion. It's going to be 103 tomorrow. There's an exactly zero percent chance Jose and his boys won't be here to deal with the yard

So I live between a gay guy and his mother on one side and an elderly Mexican and his son on the other. We all wait each other out on mowing our grass. I had plans to deal with it this weekend but it rained on and off for the whole time. No problem, gay guy and Mexicans didn't mow theirs either...

Until this evening, Mexican guy breaks his mower out and gets going trying to get done before dark. "Fvck", I mumble to myself, I don't know if I can deal with this heat tomorrow. Next thing I know, there's a knock on the door. It's Pedro. "Mr. Mark, I mow your grass --- $100. No, no, I keed. I do it for free". "No", I say, "you don't have to do that. I'll take care of it." "It too hot tomorrow and next day for you, I do it right now." I shrug and say "Okay, if you really want to" and go to wind up the hose and move a few things out of the way. He just finished up, just at sunset.

Gay guy is gonna be pissed.

I'm not sure what that means either. This may of may not be relevant, but my China shipments actually cleared Customs in Chicago. The containers were put on the rail on the west coast and ended up in Chicago, and that's where they were emptied and all the paperwork was processed.

Aren't you supposed to pay it forward and now his grass, maybe 3 tomorrow?

Outstanding! Great story. Need to leave a six pack on his porch

If you mow at 3 tomorrow, you will test involuntary commitment laws.
My buddy dropped off his wood splitter yesterday so I decided to split a little tonight. Dumb. Sitting here an hour later and I still feel like crap.

Plus I was down in the woods and forgot bug spray. Just an overall miserable time. At age 50 I've turned soft. Have the AC set at 69 which helps. Damn the people before AC were tough.

Good news everyone in the Indiana area, the boys in the Weather Underground say it will be hotter next Tuesday and Wednesday than this week. At least it will be a very moist heat.
