It's RHP Seti Manase on the mound to start the game with an ERA of 1.26 in 14.1 IP with Ellis behind the plate and Jessee is the DH today. Coach Mercer has indicated that he will use several pitchers again today. IU is 10-0 at home.

Tibbitts, after taking a ball to the head on a hopper to 1st in the last game is okay and back out there today. It's 54 degrees at the start of the game and the wind is blowing out, so we may see a few homers today.

It will be RHP Brennyn Cutts on the mound for ISU with an ERA of 5.25 in 12 IP.

1st Inning:

T1st: Manase got the 1st out on a GO. He then hit the next batter to put a runner on with one out. A fly to the warning track was out No. 2. Manase then picked the runner off 1st to retire the side.

B1st:

IU went down in order.

Head scratcher why they didn't start this game earlier. I suppose State maybe could not get in to town to start this game sooner. I am assuming there will be a rain delay. Iirc, we play the Sycamores again later in the year and they will suspend this game and resume it later and play a double header.
Go Hoosiers!

2nd Inning:

T2nd:

IU has already gone to the bullpen to bring in RHP Brayden Risedorph with a 4.05 ERA in 11 IP.

ISU doesn't have anyone in their lineup hitting over .300.

Risedorph walked the leadoff hitter but then got the runner at 2nd on a FC with a runner on 1st and one out.

A K made it two outs with the runner still at 1st. A single to CF put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

A WP moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. A K on a ball well out of the strike zone retires the side with two on.

B2nd:

Its the 4-6 hitters up in Tibbitts, Mathison, and Cerny.

Tibbitts got the first hit of the game for either team with a single.

Mathison clubbed a double down the RF line to put runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs.

Cerny K'd for the 1st out. Ellis walked to load the bases for Whalen in the 8th spot with one out.

A Whalen SF scored Tibbitts to give IU a 1-0 lead with runners on the corners and two outs with Jessee up.

A WP scored Mathison to make it 2-0 with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs. Jessee flied out to the warning track to end the inning with IU up 2-0.

3rd Inning:

T3rd:

Ben Seiler with an ERA of 5.74 in 15.2 IP came in for Risedorph and he walked the leadoff batter faced. It's the 2nd inning in the row where IU pitchers walked the leadoff batter.

Seiler then hit the next batter but it was ruled that the batter stuck his elbow out and was called out in a controversial ruling and it was ruled a strikeout. There's a runner still on 1st with one out. An infield single put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.

A single off the glove of Pyne scored a run with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out. A FC got the runner at 3rd with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

With a pinch hitter coming to the plate for ISU, Mercer goes to the bullpen and brings in RHP Evan Whitaker with an ERA of 1.42 in 12.2 IP.

Whiteaker ran the count full on the pinch hitter and he walked him to load the bases with two outs.

Whiteaker then K'd the next batter to retire the side with the leadoff walk scoring the lone run.

B 3rd:

It's the top of the order up. Glasser singled to lead off. Pyne lined out for the 1st out with Glasser holding at 1st.

Glasser was caught stealing for the 2nd out and Taylor then walked to put a runner on 1st and two outs.

Tibbitts flied out to end the inning.

4th Inning:

T4th:

RHP Ethan Phiilips came in for IU and he has an ERA of 0.00 in 6.2 IP, and he faced the bottom of the order.

The leadoff hitter popped out to 2B. A big play at 3rd by Pyne threw out the batter at 1st for two outs.

Phillips then walked a batter with two outs and IU pitching has given up four walks in the game so far, and it brought up the top of the order.

Ellis threw out the runner on 1st on an attempted steal to retire the side.

B4th:

It was the 5-7 hitters up and ISU went to the bullpen to bring in LHP Cam Edmonson with an ERA of 8.00 in 9 IP.

Both Mathison and Cerny K'd for two outs. An over the shoulder grab at the warning track got Ellis to end the inning.

5th Inning:

T5th:

IU brought in RHP Aydan Decker-Petty with an ERA of 1.69 in 6 IP, and he faced the top of the order.

A hard hit ball to the RF wall was caught by Taylor for the 1st out. A single put a man on and a GO moved the runner to 2nd with two outs. A K retired the side.

B5th:

It's the 8, 9 and 1 hitters up for IU. Ground outs resulted in two outs.

Glasser doubled with two outs and Pyne at the plate.

Pyne K'd on a WP and reached 1st with Glasser taking 3rd. Taylor was out at 1st on a very close play to end the inning.

IU 2 ISU 1

6th Inning:

T6th:

IU brought in RHP Gabe Levy with an ERA of 9.39 in 7.2 IP.

The leadoff hitter reached on an infield hit. A flyout out moved the runner to 2nd with one out.

Levy got a pop up to 1B for the 2nd out and a man in scoring position at 2nd. Levy then K'd the next batter to reire the side.

IU kept flirting with giving up the lead by letting the leadoff hitters reach in innings, but it hasn't bitten them yet except for the leadoff walk that scored for ISU in the 3rd for their only run.

B6th:

It's the 4-6 hitters up and Tibbitts led off with a single.

Mathison homered to right center which gave IU a 4-1 lead. Cerny then K'd for the first out.

Ellis then walked to put a runner on with one out and that chased the pitcher.

ISU brought in RHP Jacob Pruitt with an ERA of 7.36 in 11 IP, and he faced Whalen hitting in the 8 spot.

Whalen flied out to the warning track for the 2nd out, and Ellis advanced to 2nd on a WP, but a ground out by Jessee ended the inning.

7th Inning:

T7th:

IU brough in their eighth pitcher of the game in RHP Connor Foley with an ERA of 3.86 in 7 IP. He faced the 9, 1, and 2 hitters. There's a light rain that has been falling for a while.

Foley K'd the leadoff hitter. With the top of the order up, Foley walked a batter for the 7th BB of the game by IU, and ISU's best hitter was up in Gergley who is 2 for 2 so far and has moved his batting average to over .300 with his outing today.

He went from a 1-2 count to walking Gergely to put two on with one out and the tying run at the plate.

Mercer went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Craig Yoho with an ERA of 1.80 in 10 IP, and he faced the No. 3 hitter.

A single through the infield loaded the bases with one out, and Yoho then hit a batter to bring in a run with the bases still loaded and one out. Yoho then walked in another run to make it 4-3 with the bases still loaded and one out.

With Mercer bringing in so many pitchers, it was a matter of time before he found someone to give up the lead and he found him in the 7th.

Yoho then walked another batter on four pitches to tie the game at 4-4 with the bases still loaded and one out. Yoho finally found the plate and K'd the next two batters to retire the side, but a hit batter and walks were costly and tie the game.

B7th:

With the top of the order up, Glasser led off by getting hit by a pitch and Pyne singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.

With Taylor up in the No. 3 spot, ISU went to the bullpen to bring in RHP Joey Hurth with an ERA of 6.35 in 5.2 IP.

On an attempted bunt by Taylor, he was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs and Tibbitts up.

A WP scored Glasser from 3rd and moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd an no outs with IU up 5-4.

A walk loaded the bases again with no outs and ISU goes to the bullpen again.

ISU brought in LHP Klye Cortner with an ERA of 3.00 in 3 IP and he faced Mathison in a lefty-lefty matchup.

Mathison K'd for the first out.

Cerny then singled and advanced to 2nd on an error with two runs scoring to make it 7-4, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out.

Ellis was hit by a pitch to load the bases again with one out and Whalen up.

Whalen singled to score two more runs to make it 9-4 with runners 1st and 2nd and one out, and ISU goes to the bullpen again.

ISU brought in RHP Luke Patzner with an ERA of 1.35 in 6.2 IP and this inning had now gone over 50 minutes and headed to one hour to get over. Vecrumba pinch ran for Ellis at 2B.

Jessee K'd for the 2nd out and we were back to the top of the order, and Glasser walked to load the bases again for Pyne and two outs. Pyne walked to bring in another run to make it 10-4.

Taylor hit a bloop double to left field that fell in no man's land to clear the bases to make it 13-4 and Tibbitts then singled with two outs to score Taylor.

Mathison then doubled to bring in Tibbitts to make it 15-4. Cerny then K'd to end the inning. IU had 15 batters make it to the plate.

This inning lasted about an hour and 10 minutes and both teams were shaky in it with ISU by far being the shakier.

8th Inning:

T8th:

LHP Ryan Kraft came in for IU and he has an ERA of 1.72 in 15.1 IP, and Kraft put them down in order on two Ks and a GO.

B8th:

It was the bottom of the order up for IU and Serruto and Whalen both K'd to start the inning, and with the rain increasing and the score the way it was, the plate ump expanded his strike zone.

Jessee doubled with two outs with Goforth at the top of the order now for Glasser. Goforth walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. Pyne K'd to end the inning.

It was the final tune-up game before the B1G season starts at The Bart this weekend against OSU.

IU outhit ISU 13 to 7 and had three batters with multi-hits. IU also had 10 batters reach on BBs (7) and HBP (3) and IU left 8 runners on and also K'd 11 times. Everyone in the starting lineup had a hit except for Ellis and he had just one official at-bat and reached on two walks and was hit by a pitch.

Mathison was 3 for 5 with two doubles and a homer for 3 RBIs
Tibbitts was 3 for 4 with a RBI and he scored 4 runs
Glasser was 2 for 3 with a double
Taylor was 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs
Jessee also had a double with his one hit

IU had no errors, while ISU committed one error.

IU went through 11 pitchers so I'm not going to go through any of that and will let the box score tell that story. I made the comment during the top of the 7th inning that Mercer had gone through so many pitchers already with a 4-1 lead that he was eventually going to find one that will give up the lead, and he did in that inning although the final two outs of that inning were both Ks to keep it tied. Obviously, ISU returned the favor from the mound in the bottom of the 7th almost four-fold.

IU still hadn't put up the box score as I post this, so here's the box score from the ISU site.

Don't be surprised if the B1G opener on Friday against OSU gets pushed to a Saturday DH with rain forecasted for Friday at 100% and an inch of rain forecasted. There's still plenty of time for that to change over the next three days.
