Indiana Basketball coach search 2.0 - "Legit candidates" and "not gonna happen."

The "best fit" is something that IU hasn't seen in a very long time. There simply hasn't been one since RMK was fired. Most fans I talk to are concerned about another hiring fail. Why wouldn't they be? Beard is viable....so is Scott Drew. I think both would be a home run. I'll say something about Dusty May. While I think he is a high level prospect, I would be surprised if he left Michigan. IU should have hired him last year. If he did leave Michigan after one season....frankly, I would not see that as entirely positive, even if it's a move to IU. I would question his decision making and loyalty. Many will disagree with me about that. Thats fine, too.
I do not disagree. And I do not know that Indiana will not look at Beard, but I find it highly unlikely, and that is a shame all the way around. Assembly Hall would probably be a magical atmosphere, again. People are just going to have to chill because this is going to be a 6-week process.

I just want IU to hated by Purdue again and loved by everybody else. Love is the only way.😇

I'd take Ben McCollum over Scott Drew. Drew is like Crean with his recruiting. Every year they lose a ton of guys and have to redo it again. IU tried that garbage already. Doesn't work in Bloomington.

I'm not big on Drew but he has won a championship 25 wins on the average Indiana connection fits alot of the boxes buyout is 4.5 million. McCollum has Archie 2.0 all over him coming to Indiana has coached one season at Drake needs more seasoning to become coach at a program like Indiana.

IUBB success is a lock with Beard. But Dusty is only quarter step behind. After all, in his presser he never stated he he wouldn't leave Meatchicken. Nor did he even hint the IU HCing was of no interest to him. He said much more about his aspirations by saying zero about his future. Either 1 are both Dolson's to lose. But it's going to take awhile.

Dolson will get 'no' from his top two choices. Just like in football he will hire a good coach that nobody speaks of, either in the media or on the IU forums. I am guessing that Brad's wife is not going to want to relocate to small town Bloomington after living in Boston. Dusty will be paid accordingly with a huge IU buyout with his new scUM contract. Beard is a no, and any other big name coach is not going to leave their P4 school to come to IU. Dolson already knows who his 3rd and 4th choice is.

I do not think Beard prefers Ole Miss over the IU job.

the IU prez will not consider Beard

(Sunday 10:38pm UPDATE) For those that have been concerned, or pissed off about my post ... This is my OWN OPINION ... it's a forum, last I knew opinions were allowed. I am NOT an insider, have NEVER CLAIMED to be an insider. Nor anywhere I those seven words did I say it was inside information. IMO, shouldn't have been hard to understand ... unless you like to argue.

I still stand by that statement. For all you Beard lovers, shit happens.

I could get behind Pearl. We don’t need him for 15 years. He can come in immediately and win. There is no question about his coaching ability.
Pearl vs May, I choose May, but Pearl is capable of righting the ship, and possibly winning bigger than he has, at IU.

Disagree. I think we get our second choice and it will be a name we’ve all heard of. At least I hope.

Welcome to the new college basketball. NLI has changed it. Players will leave seeking more money or playing time and coaches will run some off that aren't fitting into the system. Most top teams will be built thru the portal.

No. Purdue is doing fine at the top of the league doing exactly the opposite.

MSU as well.

The reality of college basketball is exemplified by Rutgers this year. Two amazing freshmen who will be gone and RU has nothing to show for it.

I would even say you can basically cut off recruiting at top 20. Don't pick anyone rated in the top 20 UNLESS you already have a top tier team. If you have a mediocre team, recruit guys in the 21-150 range, and then pay them only after the 2nd year.

McCollum and Archie’s personalities aren’t even close. Archie couldn’t handle it because he’s just a dweeb

I've heard people think he'll be willing to listen to our pitch.
This is a forum where you can express your thoughts. Just like on another post you made, quit saying “you heard”. Just state what you think. Others will like your post or hammer it. Just normal human reaction from others. Just let it slide if it hurts a little to you.

You seem triggered by what I bring here.

Maybe you should take your own advise and let what I write slide and keep it moving.

The top of the heap coaches aren't willing to live in IU's past. IOW....they aren't willing to conform. Why would they? The best are builders.....let them build. IU needs to look big into the future. Announce plans for a new arena....though it will take time. Candy stripes? How about only on special days like Senior day....Names on jerseys? Sure, why not? This is 2025. I'm sure the money, the NIL and portal will be plentiful. But IU needs an architect who can build a mighty fortress. I would take a Bryce Drew first....after the usual rejections....Yeah, get them out of the way...its a right of passage...Stevens, then Donovan. But Drew would be next. If he says No....then you look at May, McCollum, etc. IU should land on its feet....as long as it stays in the upper echelon and refuses to settle for Groundhog Day.
I love how you rocket scientists think all this superficial shit is somehow a game changer. Yeah, I’m sure if we just put names on the jerseys and got rid of the candy stripes guys like Donavan and Pearl would be on their knees begging for the job…

Archie was a tough minded player but didn’t know how to pass that on to the players. McCollum is a tough minded coach and his players suck it up.
At least with McCollum you have a young star with a definite identity and plan. I'm not sure if it would work but I am sure the fan base would be energized to see an actual style of play and basketball philosophy brought back to Assembly Hall.

I’m not triggered by anything YOU bring here, because the way you put it, it’s only what you supposedly have heard. If it’s legit inside information, great. Let the board know. If not, most will accept YOUR opinion whether they like it or not. Now slide on.

Purdue's reliance on the portal will continue to grow and they will need to significantly increase their NIL resources to keep up. They won't be able to continue with a potential AA and cornerstone of the team making the same money as Gabe Cupps.

He’s pissed at getting left at the altar last year. IU big donors who threw him to the side of the road for the worst coach in IU history will get their noses rubbed in it for years from Dusty.
IMO DM comes to IU in a heartbeat.
