There are a litany of names being cast about as potential replacements for the soon to be vacant head coaching job at Indiana. The Hoosiers "aren't what they used to be." "The Indiana job is no longer a valued position." You can add whatever other ill-informed quote there, but Indiana is still Indiana, they haven't been Indiana for too long. But the truth of the matter is that the program, is a sleeping giant in need of the right guy. That is the only thing missing for Assembly Hall to become a forbidden zone to opponents as it was for so many years. I believe Indian will get this one right. While there are plenty of named candidates, which are legit and more importantly actually doable from a financial standpoint. Let's take a look

IU - Woodson

Lets just get a really damn good basketball coach, and not give a rip where he came from.
I don’t disagree, just saying that most of the historic program went the “connection route”
Football is all about the coaching tree.
ND hired Freeman who was assistant for Brian Kelly

Most top blue blood programs did hire with guys that gave connections to the program
UK- Pope
UNC- Davis
Duke- Scheyer
Villanova- Neptune
He’ll even PU and MSU. In Painter and Izzo
Painter and Scheyer both learned under legeds first. They didn't just take over out of nowhere like Woodson did

"sleeping" yeah, right.

Angry, deranged and befuddled. Not sleeping.

Tell you what, since I can't read your article I'm gonna give you a homework assignment. Get me a list of all the current head coaches who have a final 4 and 25 win seasons at multiple schools. And is less than 65.

Good list, McCasland is interesting to me.

Why do you believe Indiana will get this one right? What has changed within the internal processes that won’t be a factor this time?
Although the pressure has never been higher, there are more things on the plus side this time around. Scott Dolson has experience doing this now and doing it in the NIL/Portal era. There are multiple people that want this job, no matter what some fans think. The position is much more attractive now because of the known NIL and other resources. There appears to be more viable candidates this time around, there will not be too many Buckners (umm, Cooks) in the kitchen, and Scott does not, will not have to get this done in 3 days like the football hire.

The top of the heap coaches aren't willing to live in IU's past. IOW....they aren't willing to conform. Why would they? The best are builders.....let them build. IU needs to look big into the future. Announce plans for a new arena....though it will take time. Candy stripes? How about only on special days like Senior day....Names on jerseys? Sure, why not? This is 2025. I'm sure the money, the NIL and portal will be plentiful. But IU needs an architect who can build a mighty fortress. I would take a Bryce Drew first....after the usual rejections....Yeah, get them out of the way...its a right of passage...Stevens, then Donovan. But Drew would be next. If he says No....then you look at May, McCollum, etc. IU should land on its feet....as long as it stays in the upper echelon and refuses to settle for Groundhog Day.

I’m ok with everything but the candy stripes. I’d be really sad about that.

Did you mean Scott Drew or do you really want Bryce Drew?

Prospective coaches do not care about Indiana's past. The Indiana job is a plumb job with great possibilities. That is what they see. It is all about timing and availability. Forget about Brad Stevens - this is not happening. Just because it is the safest, I think Scott has floated a feeler to Dusty via back-channeling sources to gauge interest. If he is game, then does Indiana wait? Does Chris Beard even get a look? On one hand I do not think he does. On the other I have to ask how can you not look at what might possibly be the best fit? Beard is without question the top choice by theHoosier.com readers, that is clear. That is because this crowd is TIRED OF NOT BEING GREAT.
