Indiana’s Gutjahr Named to U.S. U-20 National Team

CHICAGO – Indiana University men's soccer's Jeremiah Gutjahr was named to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team camp roster on Tuesday.

Gutjahr was one of 24 players named to an 11-day training camp roster as the U.S. team enters its final stage of preparation for mid-February's 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which will send four teams to the 2017 FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup in South Korea this May.

"It's a great honor to be selected to compete for the U.S. National Team," Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "Jeremiah has worked hard for this opportunity. He is developing very well and we are excited to see the impact Jeremiah will have on IU soccer and our national team programs in the years ahead."

The training camp will be held from Jan. 31-Feb. 10 in Orlando, Fla. Upon the conclusion of camp, Ramos will name the final roster of 20 players who will travel to San Jose, Costa Rica for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. That final roster will be selected from the entire U-20 player pool. The World Cup qualifying tournament is scheduled to run from Feb. 17-March 5, with the team's first game taking place Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. EST against Panama.

Previously, Gutjahr has been named to the U.S. U-20 and U-18 teams. This past season for the Hoosiers, Gutjahr appeared in 20 matches, earning 11 starts, totaling one goal and one assist on the year.

Men's soccer player named to U.S. U-20 national team

IU sophomore midfielder Jeremiah Gutjahr was named to the U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team 
training camp roster 
Tuesday.

The Bloomington native was one of 24 players chosen to participate in training in preparation for the 2017 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football U-20 Championships. This competition will send four CONCACAF nations to the 2017 FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup in South Korea this May.

Gutjahr played with the U-20 National Team before, most recently in fall 2015. During his freshman season, he played in the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup in Germany.

During the 2016 season for IU, Gutjahr played in 20 games, made 11 starts and had a goal and an assist.

The camp will run Jan. 31 to Feb. 10 in Orlando, Florida. After the 11-day training camp is complete, U-20 head coach Tab Ramos will choose a squad of 20 players to compete in the CONCACAF competition in San Jose, Costa Rica, starting Feb. 17.

“Our objective for this camp is to continue our preparation,” Ramos said in a statement released by U.S. soccer. “After having a fitness camp followed by a camp with a combination of fitness and local games, now we are looking to get into game rhythm and select the final roster.”

Gutjahr Named to U.S. National Team for CONCACAF U-20 Championship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana's Jeremiah Gutjahr was one of 20 players named to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team on Thursday.

Gutjahr will play for the USMNT squad at the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship later this month, which will send four teams to the 2017 FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup in South Korea this May. Gutjahr was selected for the team after an 11-day training camp.

"We are very excited that Jeremiah has been selected to the U.S. U-20 National Team roster for the upcoming CONCACAF qualifiers in Costa Rica later this month," Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley said. "He has worked very hard to earn this unique opportunity and we look forward to cheering on our U-20 National Team as they look to qualify for the upcoming U-20 World Cup held this summer in South Korea."

The USA has been drawn into Group B along with Panama, Haiti and Saint Kitts and Nevis. The U.S. opens against Panama at 4 p.m. ET on Feb. 18, followed by Haiti at 5:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 21and Saint Kitts and Nevis at 5:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 24. All three of the USA's matches will be broadcast in the United States on Univision networks.
