If May were still desirable

It’s not out the question:

May’s buyout, should he leave for another job, starts at $5 million and decreases each of the next four years, from $4 million to $2 million to $1 million to $500,000. If he’s fired without cause, the university will owe him 70% of his remaining base salary

There could be some backroom noises.

Little did we know in April of 2008 Tom Crean was as good as it was going to get, that is, how elusive success would prove to be following Knight’s 29 years here.

Bruce Damn Pearl
His contract suggests he’s planning on coaching another 5 years. That’s a decent amount of time to coach anywhere, but will he want to spend the first two years rebuilding? Is he planning on coaching into his 70s? He’s already 64. Some coaches do it. Barnes is 70. Coach K was 75 when he retired. There are a handful of current coaches in their 70s. Pitino is 71 I believe. Who knows, maybe Pearl would be all about taking over a program like IU to finish his career.

Pearl has made the NCAA tournament the last three years, including a conference title and a conference tournament title. He has Auburn clicking right now. Why would he go anywhere, including IU? Maybe, especially, IU. He is in the twilight seasons, now....not the foundation years that would be required at IU. Some think IU is just a coaching change away from going deep in the NCAA tournament....I don't believe that for a second. The culture of winning is gone. The bureacrats who run this hotdog stand don't understand the value of mustard. Too many layers of unbasketball to peel off....I don't think Bruce Pearl would be the least bit interested at this point in his career.

dude won't live to be 70 you ever watch him on the side lines, he aint leaving Auburn anyway

I have no idea who it will be, even if it will be. However if past dictates present. It will be another swing and a miss.

It won’t be Pearl.
It won’t be Steven’s
It won’t be Donovan

It’ll be someone we didn’t think of. Someone the talking heads will hype up. Most will buy in to. Face it we’re desperate for IU to succeed.
The problem is they fail us. Each and every damn time.

And it won't be Beard. Which is probably a good thing.

I don't know when the next change will be made but I do agree that it's not going to be any of the names commonly tossed around. Whether it's another miss, who knows? Much of that may depend on whether a Dolson (or whoever is in charge at that point) is allowed autonomy to make a pick, or whether that person will be hamstrung by a committee narrowing it down to the lowest common denominator that doesn't ruffle anyone's feathers.

FFS two of those guys haven’t coached in college in a combined 20+ years.

I would have agreed with you if I hadn't seen what happened with our football program. It's hard to believe that a turnaround of that magnitude can happen simply with a coaching change, but the proof is there. Just have to find a basketball Cig.

We sh!t the bed not hiring Disney May last year. Braylon Mullins would be a Hoosier. As would his top gun from FIU.

Bruce Pearl ain’t coming to save IU BB.

IU ain’t the job it was 15 yrs ago. Hell even UK had to pick a dude from BYU that was a former player.

We still have money and name recognition.

We need a coach that actually understands today’s atmosphere and is as hungry AF.

A dude to put an atom bomb to our passive culture of the last 20 years and start from the ground up.

We all can speculate who it will be. I just want passion like Cignetti has brought to the football team. I also want somebody who has done it at mutiple places and just needs more NIL funds and better players to put them over the top.

If every hire worked that way every team would fire their coach and hire a new one. It's an outlier, nothing but pure luck.

But no alpha male. No big dog. No one who could potentially ever become bigger than the program ever again. No one with a jaywalking citation on their resume.

Those are the Indiana administrators rules.

I don't get it with the Pearl noise. So many people dismiss Chris Beard immediately but Pearl seems to get a "pass" for his transgressions. I am a believer in "severity of offenses" so what Beard has been accused of is obviously somewhat worse than what Pearl did, but Pearl's issues are fully documented and known. Still some ambiguity in regards to Beard's fateful evening. The thing with Pearl, IMO, if there is any truth to it, is that he wants to find a landing spot for his son. I am not sure about committing to this at all. Of course, this is saying that there is going to be an opening and Pearl would consider coming here. I like the guy from Clemson. He really gets his team to play hard. Look at their roster then look at their results. Anyone on that team that we would jump up and down if they transferred to IU?

If by chance Woodson doesn’t coach here next year, who would you throw money at to hire? Keep it someone reasonable not the no shot like Stevens.

I don't have one. I'm over the wish for a coach bullshit and have been for a long time.

For all our mental wellbeing we should get over it too.

Wouldn’t surprise me if these guys play up to their abilities and make the tournament and Woody goes nowhere.

If we do need a replacement I’ll take Pearl or Beard after Steven’s says no. Lol.

I can't stand Pearl from a basketball perspective. He's a weirdo ... while our fan base complains about stupid rotations, they wish for the king of hockey line subbing to be our next coach.

Love his defense, but I'd prefer a more normal coach that doesn't use gimmicky approaches but whatever... I'd watch the team in spite his weird ass also .. can't be much stranger than Crean..

I think IU should aim higher than May; however, not exactly sure who that is.
UK was recently turned down by some pretty big names and had to settle with a former player, so why would IU be able to attract a bigger name? This isn’t 35 years ago.

Most people here are fairly delusional about the caliber of coach who would come here. That’s not to say that we couldn’t get a guy who could be successful. But the notion of hiring some established coach is ridiculous.
