I don't care, but he definitely wants to coach again. Maybe he'll come see me in Charlotte.Tom Crean will try and land for his final job? I'd imagine power conference jobs are out of the window, any good mid major area he could land where he would get paid what he *thinks* he is worth?
B- x and o guy? How drunk are you this weekend??? The guy loves IU but so do I. He was an atrocious coach that took a decade away from IU relevance.I have a lot more appreciation for Tom Crean than I did Coach Crean. He was a good person and a little unhinged in a positive way. I feel like he was a (B-) x's and o's guy and struggled with consistency against top teir coaching. He did however always want the best for Hoosier Nation and tried to always bring in players with character. I'm not for sure what would be the best fit for him. I thought a successful stint for 4 years as an NBA assistant mightve been the best way for him to get back on the horse. Pepperdine was open. Something like that could've worked out.
Without resources though and losing guys to the portal and his tendency to piss the wrong people off, it's going to be tough. He could humble himself and go back to Izzo and wait for his retirement.

Are we forgetting the value of deflections, playing faster, ill-timed substitution patterns and 4 hr evening practices the night before an early afternoon game??He was a D- as far as X’s and O’s.
His offense vs a 2-3 zone is being studied by all these days 😂Are we forgetting the value of deflections, playing faster, ill-timed substitution patterns and 4 hr evening practices the night before an early afternoon game??
Someone pls whisper into CTC’s ear that Cuse occasionally plays a zone D and he might want to prep for it.
The guy made a fortune being a good salesman while also being a mediocre coach. IMHO
Nobody wanted it? You believe that?Tom Crean took a job nobody wanted. He wasn’t great but so far he’s been the best coach since RMK who didn’t land us on probation
I think he is still shocked that Cuse played zone against us in the 2013 S16.B- x and o guy? How drunk are you this weekend??? The guy loves IU but so do I. He was an atrocious coach that took a decade away from IU relevance.
Everything I’ve read about him suggests he ran his own players into the ground with ridiculous practices. He had to recruit without paying players like the big programs and he won two conference titles. I’m not a fan of Crean, his stint at UGA confirmed he wasn’t a very good coach, but he wasn’t atrocious.
The trick to playing against that zone or any non standard off/def is to not make it into some undefeatable monster. That being said, Crean didn't under prep, he over prepped ... he claimed they had plan A, B, C, D, E because he's a tweaker spaz. He basically did the exact opposite of sentence one and mind f**ked the team before the game ever started. He was intimidated, hence the team was intimidated.Someone pls whisper into CTC’s ear that Cuse occasionally plays a zone D and he might want to prep for it.
Two B10 Championships.B- x and o guy? How drunk are you this weekend??? The guy loves IU but so do I. He was an atrocious coach that took a decade away from IU relevance.

Archie was worse than Crean, he should be abolished from bball. Two B10 Championships.
...because Archie and Mike have so many since Tom left....
What an asshole.
Not quite abysmal as Tamar Bates was at Indiana.Archie was worse than Crean, he should be abolished from bball.
At this point in Woodsons career Tom had won about 6 games. Sorry did I hurt your feelings Tommy? He was abysmal.
Tamar made the tourney ever year with IU. Way more than Crean or Romeo can say.Not quite abysmal as Tamar Bates was at Indiana.
Your can't ignore context: Crean started with nothing, MW started with NIL. I'm not a TC fan, but he brought more to IU than MW ever will.Archie was worse than Crean, he should be abolished from bball.

Don't forget the open transfer portal and an All-American centerpiece as well.Your can't ignore context: Crean started with nothing, MW started with NIL. I'm not a TC fan, but he brought more to IU than MW ever will.
Post saved. You will eat your words in less than 6 months.Your can't ignore context: Crean started with nothing, MW started with NIL. I'm not a TC fan, but he brought more to IU than MW ever will.
He had some good players. They chucked pots at his head and bounced.Don't forget the open transfer portal and an All-American centerpiece as well.
Crean's top returning player was a 1.3ppg walk-on from EVV. His first season included a roster of 12 freshman, 2 walk-ons and a JUCO transfer. CC should compare that sh!t to what was left for Woody, but he won't.
You could tell they wore down at the end of the year.Everything I’ve read about him suggests he ran his own players into the ground with ridiculous practices.
It's not like we have NIL and no one else does. Everyone else does too so the environment, while different, doesn't give IU some advantage no one else has. I'll agree, it looks like we have more NIL than most.Your can't ignore context: Crean started with nothing, MW started with NIL. I'm not a TC fan, but he brought more to IU than MW ever will.

B & S used car sales. Perfect job for him.Tom Crean will try and land for his final job? I'd imagine power conference jobs are out of the window, any good mid major area he could land where he would get paid what he *thinks* he is worth?
Since schools have to pay players their market rate, NIL is the most important and valuable tool a school can provide to a coach. It's not like we have NIL and no one else does. My point is, folks act like we're the only programs taking advantage of NIL or the transfer portal. Our larger pool of NIL I would concede allowed us to pull together a pretty full group of 5-6 players, but I'll bet in each case with the big 3 xfers (Ballo, Rice and Carlyle) they each had multiple NIL offers that were competitive with what IU was able to offer them. It's a different kind of recruiting, but it's still recruiting and competitive.Since schools have to pay players their market rate, NIL is the most important and valuable tool a school can provide to a coach.
We have an NIL advantage few other schools have with our estimated top-5 NIL resources for basketball. Having two very supportive billionaires is tremendous. For a thought experiment: take away 1/3 of our NIL, and we don't have money to pay two players (maybe three) from the group of: MM/MR/Rice/Carlyle/Tucker/Ballo.
Anyways, no comment on how this relates to Crean, I thought he was pretty bad, but this thread has some insane posts.
This is really common sense. It isn’t about NIL or no NIL. It is about how much the boosters of each program pay.My point is, folks act like we're the only programs taking advantage of NIL or the transfer portal. That's fair, and I don't agree with folks who have that view. NIL gets us in the door with some major recruitments and whittles out a lot of competition, but we do still need to win the recruitments by pitching the player on the team, their role, the school, etc. Technically, another option is to just pay a lot more, but I don't know if/when that happens, I would guess not too often. My point is, folks act like we're the only programs taking advantage of NIL or the transfer portal. to reverse it, did they for sure all visit IU before committing? My sense is that most of the groundwork is done via Zoom. They may have, but the first I heard of Rice, Carlyle or Ballo (as far as coming to IU) was after they'd committed to come to IU this year. They may have visited, I'm just saying they all seemed to happen quickly and you don't get "announced" official visits like you do with HS recruits. That's fair, and I don't agree with folks who have that view. It is whole new world for IU, pre-NIL we really didn't compete in the pay under the table world of UK, KU, UNC, and the other big boys.
While a lot of these recruitments were competitive, did Rice or Carlyle even visit another school? I don't think so. We'll never have the list of offers they got, but when they don't even bother to visit another school to learn more, that's either some amazing recruiting via Zoom, or the other schools' offers were so far short such that they weren't worth the time to even visit. Interesting stuff and who knows, I'm very glad we got them.
Wrong Because wrongwrong, md was a better recruiter and coach than crean
They weren’t officially committed until their IU visits, though Rice/Carlyle sure seemed like a done deal ahead of that. I’m not sure if Ballo actually visited anywhere else, maybe one school, he cancelled a bunch of visits.to reverse it, did they for sure all visit IU before committing?
