Horrible Era

My very strong guess is Woody was a stabilizing, place holder type hire. Whether the plan is for Matta to take over at some point. And/or Fife. I just doubt the intention was for Woody to be the HC for more than a few years.
Will be interesting to see. I will as I said be positive the rest of the year. But archie left the program on life support so obviously momentum is needed fast at least for recruiting

I'm losing faith in Woody. Team looks no different from the Archie years. Same meltdowns in the clutch and hideous losing streaks. We are so irrelevant at this point. When we are in a close game you just wait for the collapse. Sometimes at the 10 minute mark of the second half, sometimes the 4 minute mark. This time they teased us all the way to the 1 minute mark but ultimately choke. Absolutely no ability, I mean none to make plays in the clutch. And our supposed All American is not one.
I will remain positive but my biggest issue always was just because he played at iu does not mean he will succeed here. It's not 1970 that culture is gone so if that's what we are trying to get back to it's a losing effort. It made the former players happy was all I saw when we made the hire. He will need to get some players in here fast. I simply don't see how we can go 7 or 8 years without an ncaa before the fans finally say that's it we give up the program is cursed forever.

TJD is the most overrated player in the Big.
aside from Race the team makes bad decisions.
I trust in Woodson to get his style players though. Few players on this team he would of recruited including TJD. He’s very predictable and Woodson prefers position-less players
He would have recruited TJD. Don’t kid yourself. The potential he showed was off the charts. He’s tough as hell around the hoop. He doesn’t have an outside shot. Most if not all the BIG coaches would take him
In a heartbeat.
Quite a few would take Race too.

Always look forward to February. Here is our record the last 6 seasons including the current season.

2016/2017 2-6, 1-1 BTT

2017/2018 4-3, bounced in first game of BTT by Rutgers

2018/2019 2-5, lost to OSU in BTT where winner goes to NCAA

2019/2020 3-4, beat Huskers in BTT and Covid ends season

2020/2021 3-5, 0-1 BTT lose to rutgers

2021/2022 0-5 with two games to play.

Cumulative February Record
14-28, .333 winning percentage
2-4 in BTT tourney with wins over Iowa (2017) and Nebraska (2020). Lost twice to Rutgers, once to OSU and once to Wiscy. Put all that together and we are 16-32. Woof!
Those are the Hoosiers we know and love! Flush.

I meant excitement wise. He left the fans depressed as heck and we had missed the ncaa five straight years. That's a tough sell to recruits.

Overdependence on TJD is one problem. We are so predictable and such a non threat as shooters. With bad shooters this "pass it to TJD and panic if you can't" offense makes these guys even worse. We are going to last one game in the tourney with any coach smart enough to spread us out and double-team or pack the middle.
I commented during the game tonight when TJD was getting a rest deep into the first half that the 5 on the floor had better movement than the starters. Their spacing and movement on the offensive side was night and day to the stand around and try to find a passing angle to TJD as he’s being triple teamed method of the starting 5.

Well it's more or less the same team. Yes some transfer players but those aren't a cure-all as we're finding out by experience.
Archie's teams played less than the sum of their parts. And we're seeing that happening this year as well. Talent issues are usually overinflated. It's the first thing our minds poke at.

You can't just preach culture or suspend a few players you have to deliver. Archie preached the same shit. If you dont win who gives a shit other than former players. They will back woodson if we are 2-21 but most fans want wins

The identity and culture over time has to start and stop with playing real hard,” Miller told me. “We have to be one of those teams where everyone we play knows, ‘This is going to be a little different tonight. It’s going to be hard.’ That doesn’t mean we win every game, but everyone has to know it’s going to be hard.”

Last Wednesday, in Miller’s 121st game leading the Hoosiers, the coach watched Rutgers—the worst program in the Big Ten when he arrived—dunk all over his passive team. The Scarlet Knights grabbed uncontested rebounds, swatted away shots and ran the floor with impunity. They took

In the words of Bill Parcells, you are who your record says you are. Our record says we haven’t had a winning record in the league since the 2015/2016 season and in the most critical month, we have a .333 winning percentage. Our teams never improve. They suck the same they did at the beginning of the year. Very sobering.

That 5* guard is the most overrated 5* guard I have ever seen play. Whomever had Lander as a 5* needs their eyes checked. I would not include Phinissee as a factor either. He is an injury prone PG that defends well and everything else is suspect.

Race and TJD were the only pieces left over from this team where other coaches would have thought, "Great, these are guys you win with..." The other 2 you mentioned are a backup guard and a guy who really has not shown anything since he got on campus.

I agree with TJD. And don’t get me wrong I love Race and Rob both as role player, but come on. This roster is one of the worst in the Big Ten after TJD. And unlike many there are 4-5 centers in the Big I would take over TJD. Which 5 star guard are you talking about? The one that showed last year he was a 3 star project at best or the one Woody brought in after people transferred out?

Lander has apparently been hurt also, since December?

“Somehow we gotta get Khristian ready to play,” Woodson said. “He's not ready to play either. That's why he didn't play tonight. We gotta get one of them back."

Woodson did not describe what Lander is dealing with, but said it is “all physical.”

(Above quote from Indy Star after Rob's injury)

If FOX would have actually had cameras on the action I might have known this.
Actually happened several times during the game. Once they put the camera on Greg Oden while the ball was in play and it felt like it stayed on him for 10 seconds. Creepy and annoying.

True. With that being said, I think Greg Oden is Benjamin Button. That guy looked 70 when in college and almost looks younger now than he did back then.

I’ve been trying to tell people this for years.

Tom Crean and his cult killed the program. Everything since then is just ashes. When we became the Indiana Creans instead of the Indiana Hoosiers everything was done. Without a time capsule and some smarter fans I don’t think it can be undone.

This is a sad state of affairs in Bloomington. This will be the sixth consecutive season without a winning record in league play. We can’t hit free throws. We have no one who can create a shot. We seem to have no offensive scheme whatsoever. We struggle to make free throws. We just suck. This is another group of seniors who will not see the lights of March madness. It really is sad and pathetic. I know some say we are playing with house money this season. But honestly, what the hell is there to look forward to? How is next season going to be any different? I know for sure we’ll have the sunshine pumpers saying how we are going to the FF and every player we bring in is going to be the difference maker and missing piece. But it never happens. The bottom ****ing line is we are losers. We are a losing bottom tier team in the big ten.
Absolutely correct...Purdue is the premier college team in the state of Indiana...as Coach Woodson has said all along...we have a long way to go...Avid IU fan here

Other B1G teams would couple TJD's inside play with perimeter shooting. IU has no shooters thanks to Archie.

No shooters.
No shot at winning.
And for us fans who were around in the 80’s and 90’s it would unheard of for an IU team that couldn’t shoot. Back then IU consistently had one of the best shooting teams in the conference and the country.

Do not disagree. However, they could build such an enormous lead they can rest more. Lord knows IU can’t score so the threat of us piling on points does not exist.
Uh, the twisted way I see it...if the playesr press they gain an enormous lead, but it comes at the expense of energy. So, it's not that they can rest, if they want, but that they have to rest, with no other choice, the tired souls that they be. But, yes, even if you get the ball on offense more frequently in defense, you still don't win, let alone pile on points, when not able to score, not matter how many opportunities. No score/No win. Only lose. (Confucius)
