Two of the coaches on that list are in the same conference as Beard! lol. You are so focused on McCollum. The point was that Beard isn't the only "sure fire" pick.

He repeatedly hit her with a ball bat while one if his friends was holding her down. He kept curb stomping her well after she was unconscious. Paid off the cops to dump down the police report.

Never said anyone is “sure fire” because there is no such thing. I’ve only said that among the candidates, in terms of returning Indiana to winning basketball, having a full understanding of the current nuances a coach endures at a P4 conference, and performing at a higher success rate than the previous coach for multiple programs at every level - none, I repeat none of these other coaches touch Beard.
All this CB worship is a bit strange to me. He'd be a very good hire, but he's not the end-all, be-all; it's not Beard or bust ... for me, anyway.

Among the candidates, he stands alone, in several categories. But, is he the only one that could be successful at Indiana? No, not at all. IU provides a launching pad that few programs possess, so it’s possible that there are several coaches out there that could return us back to being who we should have been for the past 10 years.
It’s not worship GT, just some’s pick as the best candidate. Agree, not an end-all, be-all either. Just the best fit, from where we stand. Going forward, who knows? Everybody has risk, nature of the beast.

North, what do you know/think about Alan Huss? I know nothing of him other than from looking at his record. Has some Indiana connections having coached at La Lumiere and Culver MA. Former Creighton associate HC. 50-14 overall and 27-5 at High Point in 2 years there after Tubby and his son, 2x conference champion and coach of the year.
Drake beat Vandy early in the season before Vandy started playing better and Vandy beat Ole Miss in that 3 game stretch where they upset 2 ranked teams in Texas A&M and Missouri along with Ole Miss.
I don't think it is worship just some think Beard is the best big name we can get. I am seeing alot of Mccullum worship all over social media myself. You would think he is the second coming of Jesus himself.
Having spent time around Beard in Lubbock with access to team practice, team travel and locker room I completely agree on this posters take. If we pass on Beard I will no longer take IU bball seriously.
One hit wonder DeVries built the program last 6 years at Drake they were 28-7 last year. Also Drake shoots less 3s a game then Indiana they rank #338 in attempted threes per game welcome to modern basketball..
We did this in the last 3 hires - settled for the “safe hire”
We just went through 2 coaches who were hired to "build" the program. We need to have a hit not another 3- 4 year build. We need Beard! Does he involve some risk but not as much risk as BM IMO. No more screwing around with potential winners.
Gamble is right, but another one? Why if we were SD would we even think about that. Why would we risk our job on this one hire? Why not pick someone that’s proven at this level?
What risk? Same risk as any other. Analyze which coach is the true cut above as a coach, hire them.
They all have risk. Including the above average long track record D1 coaches. The risk is whether above average is good enough. We could get Tom Crean II.

McCollum has less risk than most. Come on... There's a few others that seem about the same risk and would be excellent hires as well.

Beard this season has lost to Purdue by 2, lost to Auburn twice (by 10 and 30), lost to Vanderbilt by 5, lost to Mississippi State by 10, lost to Memphis by 17, lost to Florida by 21.
Common opponents: beat South Carolina by 4, beat Louisville by 23
So several blowout losses, but beat Kentucky by 14.
Looking at his overall head coaching record, he had one great season 6 years ago, has only gotten to the NCAA tournament twice since then (same as Woodson) and not past the second round (also same as Woodson). Beard has double digit losses every season this decade and has finished 6th, 4th, got fired for DV, then 10th, and this season tied for 6th in conference results.
These results don’t seem that much better than what we have now and don’t scream “perennial Sweet 16”. Seriously and sincerely what is the appeal of this guy?

Some think he walks on water. I don't see it, but that's just my perspective. Good coach, nothing special.
14-6 in the NCAA Tournament is a big one. One shot away from winning a title at TT. Also an elite 8 with TT. Had Texas in title contention. Best season ever at Arkansas LR as well. Built up a tournament team in a tough SEC this year.
Rick Pitino didn’t lying when saying he would hire Beard if he were the AD.
Fair points. Most of those NCAA wins were from those two TTU seasons. Since that title game 6 years ago, though, he is 2-2 in the NCAA tournament. His one full season at Texas he finished 10-8 in conference and lost in the second round.
Two years he wasn’t coaching at tournament time and he also had to build up a less than historic power in Ole Miss. The year he was let go at Texas would have been another nice run. He had them rolling.
Check out his rosters and what he has been able to do with less. Sometimes you have to look beyond the surface to see just how good this guy has been.
Guys that know, know. Again, Rick Pitino knows basketball.
The same can be said about mccollum some seem to think he walks on water. All i hear is he is not archie he will do great but noboby really knows how he would handle the massive jump.
