The crime and shootings here are close now. It used to be isolated but now is all over. I wouldn't linger at the bars downtown after a ballgame anymore. We've changed how we live to account for crime. Even our mall can be dangerous

I understand the position of getting rid of guns, but there are so many guns - and they are ingrained in the culture - that I don't see that happening. If the attempt was made, criminals would still find a way to get guns while honest citizens are disarmed.

I much prefer limiting purchasing and carrying of guns to 21 year olds and older who have passed a thorough background check. I also support stop-and-frisk laws - that seems to have cleaned up NYC more than anything.

There are a lot o sensible measures to take before we should attempt mass gun confiscation.

I don’t understand the mindset of all or nothing regarding gun reform. Yeah, if we take strict action there will still be mass shootings for years to come. But there won’t be as many, and year by year it would go down. This is a fix that will take well beyond all of our lifetimes. It’s kinda like racism. Yep, it’s still around. But it’s gotten better every single generation since the 1800’s. It wasn’t that long ago we were water-cannoning black people! Just imagine that on the nightly news now. Change takes generations. There's a lot that goes into those stats that are misleading. For instance Stl is a metro of 2 million plus but the city is only 300,000. That's what the rate is based on. The figures are skewed.

All of that said I am done with guns. No ones personal interest in guns means more than the crime we are seeing. The balance has shifted heavily for me

I'd be curious what the stats are for (1) shootings by shooters who knew their victim(s) and thought they had a specific reason to shoot him/them v. (2) random shootings by shooters who fired numerous shots at either individuals or groups of people they didn't even know.

We need to stop both kinds of shootings, but it's somewhat possible to avoid the back alley drug deal kind of shootings and the revenge-to-right-a-perceived-wrong shootings by just avoiding risky situations like dark alleys where possible.

But the only way to avoid being part of the mass shootings of strangers in public areas is to change your entire lifestyle -- don't go to restaurants, office buildings, churches, shopping malls, a sidewalk. This will change the entire quality of life in this country, because there are far fewer warning signs whether these innocent public places are dangerous now that concealed carry has virtually become the law of the land.
