Hes back

It's not possible because several here have posted "he gone" as if was an irrefutable fact. ;) At least two of those posters are rejoicing in this thread . . .
Never posted it, but I'm pleasantly surprised he came back. I think this is a case where NIL helps the college game.

Time to win something.
If the question marks get answered. I’m hoping race plays more like a stretch 4. Even though he isn’t. Need two wings to step up. Hit free throws not more threes. Better passing out of the post. Limit turnovers. Only need to average 46-48% from the field. Lockdown defense at times too.

This is amazing news. With Malik to join the fold, we have a unique option to put in the post as opposed to a body to fill a position down low. The post was good but now it will be great.

Just need to hope our team can find a way to shoot the ball.

Shooting was a problem but not how we originally thought. We actually missed to many 2 point shots. Sure a few more 3s would sure help but those missed bunnies hurt more.

Building good team chemistry, will define if next season is good as most of us think it will be. We are as deep at every position as any team I can remember. Who earns the minutes will be very interesting to watch.

Solid play at those 2 spots and we are a contender. And I'm not just talking B10.
Yes.....why not us? I know there are holes, but that's the nature of the college game. The experience this team will bring is extraordinary. And those three frosh are talented. Hood S.---a stud. And I won't rule out Banks and Gunn being contributors by the end of the season.

Same. He’s going to start at the 3 until someone else plays better. Sure he’s not dynamic but he does what he’s supposed to do. He’s never out of position. Everyone else is.
He's a good baseline for the spot while guys like JG, TB, and TG will be breathing down his neck (plus a few long-shot in the freshman class).

per IU-
Indiana University men’s basketball All-American forward Trayce Jackson-Davis has announced he has withdrawn from the 2022 NBA Draft and will return to play his fourth season with the Hoosiers. Due to COVID, Jackson-Davis will technically have two years of eligibility should he choose to use it.

Jackson -Davis enters his fourth season with the Hoosiers ranked 15th all-time at IU in scoring (1,565), 19th in scoring average (16.9), 9th in rebounds (797), 7th in blocked shots (178) and 7th in field goal percentage (55.8). He was named a third-team All-American as a sophomore, has earned All-District honors each of the last two seasons, and has been a third-team, first-team and second-team All-Big ten choice in his first three campaigns with the Hoosiers. He will be the third leading returning scorer in college basketball next season behind Antoine Davis from Detroit and Max Abmas from Oral Roberts.

“The opportunity I had to work on my game for the professional level was something that was invaluable as I continue my growth as a basketball player,” said Jackson-Davis. “However, I am looking forward to returning to Indiana to be with my coaches and teammates and building off of what we accomplished at the end of the season. There are goals I have for our team and for myself individually on the court, but at the end of next year more importantly, I will be proud to say I am a graduate of IU.”

The Center Grove product ranked among the conference leaders in points per game (18.3; 6th in the Big Ten), rebounds per game (8.1; 6th), field goal percentage (58.9%; 4th), free throws made (147; 5th), free throws attempted (218; 2nd) and total blocked shots (81, t-1st) in 35 starts for the Hoosiers in his third season on campus.

Jackson-Davis anchored a Hoosier defense that was ranked as the most efficient in the league by KenPom (24th in the nation) and held opponents to a league-low 39.6% shooting from the floor. Jackson-Davis has recorded 32 double-doubles and two 30-point/10-rebound performances in his career.

During the 2022 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, he averaged 25.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest on 34-of-51 shooting (66.7%) from the floor. Jackson-Davis broke five program records during the tournament run, including: single game points (31), single game made field goals (15), total points (76), total made shots (34) and total rebounds (25). He was named All-Tournament for his efforts.

The Hoosiers finished 21-14 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 defeating Wyoming before falling to Saint Mary’s. The Hoosiers advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2013 after knocking off Michigan and top-seeded Illinois.

This is not directed to you, but overall to the post.. It's certainly great news for Indiana, but they still need a shooter, or 2, to be a great team. Maybe that get's done by committee? Can CJ Gunn surprise people? What are your expectations for Tamar Bates?
Tamar will have the biggest jump on the team.

Deepest and most talented IU roster in ages. If Tamar and JG develop as expected we can win the B1G and go from there.
Oops. You said "if, "as expected" and "can win."

I admire your optimism and hope you're right.

But I have to see them play first before I count it.

As an example, we all should stop getting excited about the number of stars a high schooler gets during recruiting and start awarding our own stars to players based on what they actually do after they play at IU.

See if you can guess who. I would award 6 stars (not just 5 stars) to a particular IU player who dominated every aspect of his IU games as a guard. In one game, a good-shooting IU team was having trouble breaking a zone because our shooting was off that night, so Knight actually posted this guard under the basket against a 2/3 zone -- once he got the ball in there the defending big guys couldn't stop him without fouling.

Damon?

I'd give Damon at least five stars for his actual IU performance but he wasn't the guy in my example.

Damon was one of the fastest players on the floor grabbing a defensive rebound and outrunning everybody to the other end to make or threaten a layup (i.e. in straight line speed). It's sad so many current fans don't realize how fast he was, plus he did a ton of other things really well too.
