20 mph wind gusts aren't major... 30-45 would be but we won't see that per the forecast...
I'd be surprised if we see any rain though..., maybe a few sprinkles at best...

I wouldn’t worry too much. Game is still five days off and the forecast could change. And the current forecast is not particularly ominous.
I wouldn't be surprised either way regarding the weather.
But how does it impact the game, game prep, players, game plans?
Wind and rain will make for shorter and fewer passes...defenses will adjust. There will likely be more turnovers, and the kicking game will be tough.
I'm not worried...It's the analytical me...opening dialog on the topic
IU will practice in the wind and rain on Thursday and Friday. Maryland maybe not.
Who has the better running game? Run defense? The mindset to play in nasty weather?

I like our pure run game mixed with our short passing game... I don't like seeing our QB running the ball though unless it's clear he won't get hit on that knee...
I just watched an extended highlight segment on Maryland/Virginia from Sat. Virginia kept it very close through most of the game despite a bunch of turnovers.
I can see Indiana thumping Maryland. Maryland hasn't seen an offense with a QB like Rourke.
I might be wrong, but if Indiana plays like they have these first four weeks, they cover the spread.

We don't really throw many long passes anyways. We may throw less, but what we throw may not change much (IMO).
Just another challenge if the weather is bad. I’d say we’re probably less reliant on passing success, to be successful overall, than Maryland is. But either way, can’t control the weather. And wind and rain shouldnt affect blocking and tackling, which is where most games are won and lost.
At other schools, fans are looking at the weather to see how to pack and plan appropriately with their gear to get through the game and be protected from the elements.
Meanwhile, at IU, fans are adding this to their list of reasons why they won’t go and instead are priming their tv’s for the Notre Dame game and digging out that old VHS tape of the 1987 basketball championship to tee up when it’s sprinkling outside.

Latest update from AccuWeather: 88% chance of rain Saturday, 9 mph wind with gusts up to 16 mph. I know that makes golf harder so I imagine it will make throwing the ball accurately harder.

The National Weather Service is now predicting a high temperature of "near" 76 (with a "heat index" at Kickoff of 67, topping out at 73 in the 4th qtr [perfect viewing temperatures]); they're still at 40% chance of showers, "mostly sunny"... SE Wind around 9mph, gusting "up to" 18mph.

A few tips:
Take a clear refillable water bottle (that you can afford to lose if they're in the confiscation mode at the gate), and/or buy one or two as soon as you're inside the gate; take a white hand towel (hidden under your shirt to avoid difficulties with the gate guys) for either wetting down and covering your head and neck if you feel you're getting too much sun, or for spot drying off if you catch a few too many rain drops prior to donning your cheap clear plastic poncho (bring a clear cheap plastic poncho and stick it under your clothes to avoid gate guys); wear a hat and spray it with waterproofing (Walmart camping section) before hand... Fill your pockets with prepackaged snacks (but not to bulging) and an inexpensive small monocular and you're good to go... Also wear a light, semi-water resistant, hooded wind breaker to have on up thru Halftime (if it is breezy and damp).
Either rent a seat back mainly for the extra padding between you and the bleacher and for politely delineating your seat space and/or cut a piece of closed cell camping pad foam to the smallest rectangle possible that matches your area on the bleacher and stick it under your shirt in the back (partially under your belt)... That pad can give you a full extra hour of comfort on those aluminum bleachers...
You might not need to hide all that stuff from the gate guys but I just figure why let them make the decision... As long as you're not bringing in drugs, booze, or weapons I don't think they should get to make the call... Just don't bring anything in that you aren't prepared to have taken from you if it is detected..., and..., be prepared to be slightly embarrassed if you haven't take a little serious care in hiding your bit of extra gear... (No sense starting the day in a bad mood, the gate guys are just doing their job as they've been instructed to do it...).

IU fans with a chance of a little rain.
I’ll remind fans that one of the greatest games in IU football history was 1987 at home against Michigan in a driving rainstorm. Absolutely glorious and perfect weather. Loved sitting in that rainstorm.
Not so long ago IU beat Virginia in a rainstorm that lasted the entire game.
IIRCC, going into the 4th quarter, Michigan was going to have the wind at their backs, but remarkably in the break between quarters the strong wind shifted to the opposite direction and IU got the wind behind their back, instead, and Bo was pissed.
I was a student at the time and it was a glorious storny day!

I do remember that one. Got soaked but it was fun.
Would not say it was glorious sitting in the rainstorm, but it was spectacular
watching Niagra Falls going down the steps at memorial stadium.
I was there, start to finish, and the Crowd did make a difference..., so much so that Bo Schembechler whined about us after game... (The MI qb couldn't hear himself think 😎)....
We can create a Home Field Advantage if we decide we want to as a fanbase... We proved it that day...
I remember the 01 bucket game. The first half was the heaviest downpour I've ever sat through for a football game.
I watched that on TV. Could barely see the game.

That is the best game I have ever been to. I never sat the entire game. I was a sophomore at IU......one game away from the Rose Bowl. Couldn't beat MSU, darn it.
Forecast now is showers Saturday morning and steady light rain in the afternoon. Wind 10-15 mph, so no problem. The field will be wet all day and we might see our first fumble from IU. Win the TO battle and likely win the game.
I was a student as well and the student section was absolutely packed. That was a time when students had grit, tenacity and toughness. I miss the days of students fighting in the stands, campus police escorts out. I saw games where our own students fought each other as well opposing fans.
That was entertainment in its own right. Much better than the inflatable tire contest!
I was there and sat through every minute of it.
One of the most fun games I’ve ever been to.
I was there too. Nice memories. Re. the game, just remember how awful the Michigan QB was. I hope we can repeat that game this year, so their current QB situation is not the best.

Everyone complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it.
The field was wet during the first half of the FIU game and the only issues seemed to be with the brand of gloves we were wearing... A few guys had trouble catching the ball and our RB had trouble throwing it once (with his wet gloves on)...
Hopefully we've found a better wet weather glove since then... I don't recall our fumbling the ball against FIU but I've slept since then...

I doubt we'll know for certain what we're really dealing with until a couple of hours before Kickoff...
Hopefully the storm remnants will rain itself out Friday night and things will be clearing over The Quarry just prior to Kickoff... That's my bet..., and I'm sticking with it... 😎
It's also clear the the NWS and Accuweather are using two different computer models... This could go down to the wire! Should be interesting to see how it works out...
