Gotta start Galloway

Are you Fing with me?

I think one of the brightest spots of the game was Kanaans defense. Cupps should never see the floor and gets cooked constantly.
Agreed. Carlyle’s defense really impressed me. Cupps struggles with quick guards a lot. I am loving the idea of Rice, Carlyle, and Galloway closing out games with the lead.

I bet Tucker is a stud by March. He is the kinda guy that can develop in this system. Future pro.

If Cupps does transfer after this season, he will have to go to a mid-major to get the kind of opportunity you speak of. I think he will actually play more minutes this season than many seem to think because of all the things you mention. By the way, I heard on a podcast that CMW said he will emphasize defensive important early in this season and then eventually open up offensively. Cupps' understanding of what CMW wants will help him get on the floor more, I think.
He got 5 minutes. Which is about 3 too many ....

Yeah, our bench may not be as deep as we originally thought. Hatton, Goode, and Cupps haven't been impressive. But, it's still early.
They'll all be depended upon to spell good minutes. Yeah, I thought Goode would be more seasoned than what he's shown, but its a new environment and I have confidence he will find his groove. Cupps will always be steady in an unspectacular, yet efficient way. I haven't seen enough of Hatton to know one way or the other. He snuck up on me in the roster.

Noted elsewhere that Carlyle”s defensive footwork and body positioning was poor. Leaning and reaching will be called in league play
Yeah... no. His on the ball defense was the
All summer I preached the merits of redshirting Cupps. I'd rather have him as a sophomore next year on the same timeline as Newton.
Redshirt? Is that still a thing? Why would a kid sit a year when they can go wherever they want? He might be the 4th most effective point gaurd on this team.

Galloway can't shoot defenses will pack the lane and force us to shoot three's ball. We have to get Carlyle, Goode going. I like Galloway in the second group gives us leadership and defense with the second group.

Carlyle isn't a shooter. I thought we did enough discussing of that in the off season. Leal and Goode are, so if you are looking for players to "get going", it's those 2.

Goode has not impressed so far and it appears little was done over the summer to correct Cupps' shot mechanics. Was hoping they could get him to be even a marginal threat from deep which combined with his existing heady floor management and decent defense would make him a solid backup.

Amazing to me the conclusions people are drawing after 1 game with a team trying to integrate 6 new players and 2 back from injury. "Bench Carlyle, Ballo's a garbage-man overweight, overpaid stiff, Reanu hasn't improved, Cupps can't play and belongs at a mid major...." what am I forgetting? Oh yeah, "Hatton and Goode aren't good and the team can't shoot despite 37% from 3 and 82% FTs." And here I thought it was a decent showing, all things considered!

it is a bit early in the process. we will know a lot more by Nov 21st. or the thxgiving tourney for sure.
we all wanted the team to come out of the gate firing on all cylinders and looking like a B10 champ and a threat in the NCAA.
that could happen but we ain't there yet.

Of course we're not. We have 6 new folks who are likely to be in the rotation to some degree, and 2 returning from injury. Look at PU, they lost 2 starters and their likely top 3 players are all 3rd year (is TKR 4th year?) guys and most of their other rotation guys were there last year, and they got beat at Creighton and struggled against TAMCC? It shouldn't surprise anyone that we had a few miscues. For an exhibition game we beat what's supposed to be a top 10 team with a likely all conference PG, on their court. Then beat undermanned Marion and a better than expected SIUE team by double digits. I'm not saying it was great, but I totally expected us to struggle for the first few games. As a great football coach once said: "don't get too high or too low, and move on to the next play!"
