Good Restaurant Service

Last summer we made our trip to Indiana and went to Washington to see my father in the nursing home. On the way there we stopped and ate at Mr. Gattis in Martinsville. Now we ate during the buffet but there is an older woman named Phyllis who works out in the dining room. She is a great lady who works hard even during Covid. A year or two before that she was going to have knee surgery so I let people on here know because we were heading to an IU Basketball game. Phyllis is a fan and I wanted people to know about her.
Why do you always talk about Mr. Gattis as if it’s fine dining?

In most small Indiana towns, it's the nicest place in the county.

Plus ... buffet

Iny high school, early college days, Godfather's was it. I still think their taco pizza was the best taco pizza ever.

They went out and about that time Garcia's Pizza by the Slice came to Bloomington. For several years that was my go to.

Ha! Loved Godfathers back in the day. I can't do buffets anymore. Just gross me out
Especially pizza! You use the spatula but everyone touches the handle and then you use that hand to eat it with. I never thought about it til a friend said he used his off hand on it.

I know its more north central but Pizza King is the best. The ones on the eastern half of the state.

It is totally different. The pepperoni is chopped in fine pieces, topping to the very edge and they cut it in squares. I am not a big crust fan so its a bigger pizza per inch to me and it warms really well if you know how to do it. Its basically I-70 and north and the better of the two is east of 31. Started in Muncie yrs ago. Lots of hole in the wall ones in small towns south of US 6 . They split yrs ago but kept same name. Purdue likely tainted the ones west of 31

The only problem with pizza King is you need to take out a small mortgage to feed a large family.

True. I have one and its about 25 miles from me so it is a special occasion. Good pizza isn't cheap anywhere though. One time I was waiting for my carryout and the old guy that actually owned that and a few other franchises told me how to warm it up. Someone had told him after yrs in the biz. You get a skillet hot, microwave it half way then use the skillet and it's almost better than fresh. I have a couple of good local places to here that are unique as well. It's all a matter of what you like but I dont like buying a 16'' and getting about 13'' and some crust on the edge.

That's good to know about the heating up.

We've got one where I live. It's really good, but almost $30 for a large meat is hard to justify, especially when I need more then one pizza when I have me, my girlfriend and three kids.

Chopping pepperoni into small pieces makes sense.

Stuff like this makes coming to the WC almost worthwhile.

That's right. It was the breadsticks that were great. I've never had Detroit but it looks super different. It's all subjective but I don't like Stl with provel and thin, and hate Chicago thick. I like East Coast type the best. I remember Ohio had a chain called Donatos that reminded me of Stl but was a little spicier
Love Donato's. Definitely tops in the chains, imo.

isn't Jet’s in Indy? I’ve never had it but some people like it for Detroit style.

I don’t get the concept for Papa Murphy’s. It costs more than some regular pizza places and you have to cook it!
There's at leat 1 Jet's in Naples, Florida. It's pretty darn good!

Arnie's in Lafayette used to be a Pizza King and it was a nice restaurant with a bar.

Then they broke off from PK, but the pizza is almost identical. They've opened a couple places on the Indy northside and they have a place in Frankfort, Lafayette, and Rossville.

Arnie's Junior Chef Salads are legendary.
