Damn, sorry I missed this. I've played most of the courses around Charleston and would have loved to provide some recommendations. Have a buddies trip scheduled for Kiawah in October.Any recommendations on which of the many courses in Charleston, SC to play? Going to be getting into town tonight. Thanks.

What did you think of Wild Dunes Links? Beach erosion has really done a number on that course.
If you haven't been to Kiawah, it's worth building a trip around. The Ocean Course is unreal and the other courses out there are all pretty decent. There are a handful of other good spots around town, but you made a good choice with Wild Dunes. I played there a while back and had a 30-40mph wind. Coming up short with three irons on short par 3s, while getting home in two with driver-SW on par 5s.It was nice. I got a really good rate on golf now. I played there probably 20 years ago, to bad 18 got washed out, but now a pretty good par 3. Was going to try to get out to Kiawah but couldn’t get it to work. Played a good course in Gulf Shores and Biloxi along the way.

Totally agree. The group trip that I have planned for October is on the resort's Ryder Cup package for groups of 12 or more. $1100 for three nights in a villa, three rounds (including one on the Ocean Course), an opening reception, breakfast, taxes, etc. It's insane. It's $400 or so typically just for the Ocean Course, when you include the caddie. Already counting down the days. I haven't been down there for a few years. There is Kiawah and then there is everything else.
That entire island is top notch (and also top $$). Ocean Course is world class....and IMO best golf course Dye did in his career (I haven't seen Teeth of the Dog in the DR....which Dye says is his best). I'd play there every day if I could. It is so much fun.

Where did you play in Gulf Shores? Kiva Dunes and Peninsula are pretty nice.
My brother had a hole in one in a member guest and won a 3 night, two days of golf at French Lick (interesting since the tournament was in Austin). Going to head up there in August. How bad is the drive from Indianapolis? Should we fly into Louisville? A lot will depend on flights for me from Deep South Texas. Not sure I can get into Louisville very easily. Is there a poker room at the casino?Totally agree. I second the recommendations for flying into Louisville. Drive from Indy, on the surface, isn't bad, but road construction is a mess. There are probably some back roads from Indy that will shorten the drive. If it is available, though, Louisville is the better option. My brother had a hole in one in a member guest and won a 3 night, two days of golf at French Lick (interesting since the tournament was in Austin). The Dye Course is pretty awesome, but can play incredibly difficult. Visually, it's unlike anything else in Indiana. The Ross Course has been one of my favorite courses since before the course and resort were renovated. Classic course that is very playable but with some insane greens. A really cool combination of courses in one place and gives you totally different looks and experiences.
If I remember correctly, the casino at French Lick has a poker room.

The Donald Ross Course is harder than the Dye Course.
This is true. I avg 3-4 strokes better at Dye Course. You can spray it around a little bit there & get away with it. The greens are much bigger as well...
