GAME THREAD: IU 17 @ Notre Dame 27. FINAL.

Starting to wonder if someone's ego is getting in the way. Someone wants to 'keep it close' like he did at OSU so it's not an embarrassing loss. This is embarrassing from the top down.
3 pts.

2nd half we have been totally dominated. Have had the ball a total of 3 times. One 1st down. Total of 5 yards. Awful offensive performance.

As a 72-76 grad who watched our football team dominate “the bottom ten” list every week, I’m very pleased with this season. I would have been happy going to a bowl game in a nice location at a neutral site this year.
The only way we’ll see a playoff game again is if we win the Big outright.

Hope everyone enjoyed the season. I surely did. I also know at my age, I’ll never see IU in the playoff again. It was fun.
I think that's the part about this that I hate the most. This is probably our peak and it might be all downhill from here. But I'll take it. It was a lot of fun.

There are plays that can reduce the impact of a strong pass rush. Apparently, they don't learn those at Janes Madison.

Love Coach Cig but I feel like he didn't believe in this team tonight. Dan Campbell is a wild man, but he believes in his team to a fault. I would rather have that.

For all the credit they deserve, the coaching staff owns this one. Poor tackling and a shaky Rourke hurt, but the play calling and decision making flew in the face of what Cignetti did the first 9 games of the season. Fair catching our kick offs and getting cute on our punts indicated early that we were letting them dictate the terms. Nothing bold about the game plan. I remain ever confident in CCC moving forward, but this will be a monkey that he has to shake off his back. Shanahan’s play calling has been basic.

It would be bad for a coach to peak in their first season. One would think Cignetti would get better players going forward.

Did we ever have a quarterback “spy” on defense this season? I thought that was pretty basic.

Jesus some of you guys need to lighten up. Losing on the road by 24 to a top 10 team doesn't mean we're frauds. We just didn't have horses to run with them today.

That Love kid is just another kid on that team. He splits time. At IU he'd be on his way to being somewhere in the top 5 RB's to play for us. Now we just need to work on improving the talent level.

And yeah, the coaching wasn't great today. Oh well. Plenty of good kids coming back.

Define “.downhill.” A program that normally goes 3-9 or 4-8 and if we consistently get to bowls, that would be better than anything in your lifetime..
You know, you are totally right. If we became a team that regularly went to bowl games and won some, it would certainly be an improvement. Nice perspective.

We had nothing to lose and played scared. Disappointed.
Same thing that showed against MI and OSU. At least the MI game was at home, but the two best teams we’ve played all year have been on their home field.

Anyways, even though we pulled off a win vs MI, it showed in that game, along with OSU & tonight, that our zero star players can’t keep up with four - five star players. Those guys are four - five star for a reason. They’re faster, more athletic, pretty much everything.

The team/program is vastly improved over the previous years and I think Cig squeezed every drop of football out of this squad that he could. We just don’t have the horses…yet.

Wonder if coach considered giving Tayven J a shot? Just a series or two to see if he could evade the rush better and give them a spark.

Yes, much, much perspective is needed. They last won a bowl game in my Freshman year. I’m now north of 50. As much of a bummer as tonight is, this season was otherworldly by IU standards. The only thing remotely close to this over the last 30 years was that weird COVID year.

Yep so of course disappointed a bit but 11-2 and a playoff game far exceeds anything I hoped for at the start of the season. Only the beginning.

GREAT season.

We'll be just about as good next year on talent. Even so, likely a few more losses but could still be a very good year.

The program is on the rise. Couple more years to fill the talent pipeline at all levels and Cig will have us rolling!

Awful performance but that was expected. We need new staff. This isn’t good enough. Anyone who didn’t see this coming is completely delusional.

New staff? Like who? I knew Notre Dame would win as well. They have obliterated the opposition since they lost to NIU and only won by 10 tonight.

🤣🤣🤣 . Cig is a once in a lifetime coach for IU. This game wasnt Cignettis best coaching job by far, but the coaching of this team is far superior to anything I have ever seen at IU. We need a significant upgrade on the ol, dl, and lb. That is our biggest problem, but really tough to win these kinds of games when you are getting decimated on the line of scrimmage. If Cig can start recruiting better talent we will be competing for championships soon. I have been kind of disappointed in our portal haul so far. We need many more linemen. Maybe now that they don’t have the distraction of the cfp they can go recruit harder.

And now we look forward to watching Woodson coach tomorrow.
The sooner that inept coach is gone, the better. So far in over his head. Couldn’t manage a JV squad. He goes by many names: “Chapprone Mike.” Bigfoot.” Sleepy.” “Grandpa.” The outcome is inevitable for him.

No…we knew it would be tough. The delusional ones are those that expect a guy like Bigfoot over there across the parking lot to do anything with what was supposed to be a very good portal class. You know what the outcome is going to be there. It’s entirely predictable.

Gotta give some credit to Notre Dame. That's a good team. A lot of what they did wasn't flashy, it was just very good execution. Making smart decisions. Taking what was there.
We got that early pick and an opportunity to go +7 off turnovers. Instead we throw an INT into double-coverage, give up that embarrassing 96-yard TD run,and go -7 on turnovers. If we finish that drive the whole game probably looks differently and we don't have that absurd red meat diatribe by McDonough at the end.
But it is what it is. We were in the CFB Playoff. 122 teams weren't. There's no asterisk. The committee put the right teams in.
I am anxious to see how we build on this going forward.

There's just a better team....better athletes... Better coaches...

Saban doesn’t like Cignetti lol
I’ve said all along that this supposed mentorship relationship with Cignetti and Saban is not what the media makes it out to be. I think it’s a big reason why Cignetti left there. He was passed over for coordinator roles. Of course Cignetti is diplomatic in talking about Saban but I think there’s some tension there. He got out of there and took a pay cut to do so.

Oh they have better personnel for sure. Coaches? Nah. When Notre Dame loses out in the playoffs, come back to us. We welcome you to give your breakdown for the impending loss that’s coming for your team.
