Gaetz withdraws from AG consideration

I've read your posts for awhile and you've been 100% on the mark. You are where the Trump base is. Whoever doesn't see what's coming has their head up their rear imo.

I'm not a historian and you are probably right. What I recall is there was a time when judicial nominees were supported by both parties. To me they should be fact based appointments. If the public knows how they will rule on a specific case before they are appointed that's a problem. I prefer technocrats.

On the surface, I think the tug of war happened because of Roe. And, naturally, Dems were incensed about McConnell blocking Obama's pick to replace Scalia. They (understandably) saw Scalia's death as a golden opportunity to replace the court's strongest conservative with a liberal justice and tilt the balance. McConnell denied them this, Trump went on to win the election and the power to fill the seat....and the court has been at battle lines ever since. This is why Senate Dems and media folks have been tearing into Clarence Thomas and Alito.

But, under the surface, I think there's even more pent-up angst about the future of ICC jurisprudence. Abortion gets a whole, whole lot of attention and arouses a whole, whole lot of passion. But there's a lot more riding on the prospect of the Roberts court revisiting that subject. And it's deathmatch kind of stuff, IMO.

I'll be fine either way. If they play somewhat within the usual norms, then fine. It was a fair election so what are going to do.

I really am going to enjoy watching these union guys and blue collars realize that Musk and Trump really don't care about them. And I do think inflation is going to be crazy. I'll be fine, but many won't.
Well the woke free cheese extravaganza sent prices through the roof. If trump does the same who is left?

Even if true that has nothing to do with Gaetz being qualified
Actually, Gaetz is fully qualified - he's been on the Judiciary Committee.

But he won't get confirmed. It's not that I'm so much against him personally, but he's pissed so many people off, there's no chance he'll get confirmed.

Let me guess, you're in favor of Trump attempting an end-run around the Senate to get this asshole at Justice? Of course you are.

And I'm sure that will just do wonders for his ability to get any legislation passed, despite the trifecta. He's already got a razor-thin margin in the House -- and a caucus there that is anything but united.

And, for what exactly? What could possibly be the benefit -- even if it's the benefit to Trump rather than, ya know, the country -- of having a clown like Matt Gaetz as Attorney General?

Can/would be just appoint him during a recess?

What’s really great about all these appointments is not one of them are Gay or Trans!

By that definition...Hank "Guam Will Capsize" Johnson is qualified to be AG

Or Cori Bush.

It's the combination of crazy, confidence, trashy and built like a fire hydrant...again can't explain it
From the neck down, she's fine. That's what paper bags (and gags) are for.

So? He is qualified. He just wouldn't be affirmed, as I said Gaetz wouldn't be.

Some of you don't understand what 'qualified' means.

How was Pete Buteigeig qualified to be Sec of Transportation?

He worked for a law firm before he became a Congressman.
For no amount of time. You don’t get it. Marv and aloha don’t either. Law school is just school. You don’t know anything. It’s the 30 years, 40 years, after. The thousands of cases in a field. That’s the distinction. I cannot imagine some salty AUSA who has seen and done it all reading Gaetz is going to head up Doj. It’s embarrassing. It’s an insult

Was Bobby Kennedy qualified to be AG? The AG is essentially a figurehead. He's not trying cases. Gaetz will be there to flush out the rats and ensure justice is administered.

Exactly. This is about the only way you can describe this.

As I said, I get the qualms about Hegseth and Gabbard.

I'm actually a little bit intrigued by the Hegseth pick. I honestly think it could end up being a pretty good one. And I get Trump wanting to reward Gabbard for her support -- although I don't know what would've been wrong with VA Secretary or Interior. Still, it's something that I can live with.

But...this? I mean, this can only be described as some kind of a troll appointment. We're talking about a guy who heckled the former Speaker of the House on the floor of the Republican convention like a 3rd grader. "Hey Kevin, what time are you speaking tonight? What time? Oh, you're not? That's right, because you'd get booed off the stage!"

...only to later take the stage himself and embarrassingly reveal having some kind of bizarre work done to his face before his big primetime blast.

I get it, but people are nominated for positions in which they have little experience all the time in government.

At least Gaetz has experience with the judiciary. I'm not advocating for him, but he's qualified by DC standards.
