Flights - Yikes

Even in one of the most highly regulated industries in the country, the market is trying to sort this out. More and more travelers are making carrier decisions based on who is flying these 737 MAX aircraft. However, Uncle Sugar will step in and prop them up instead of letting them fail. The unions are demanding big pay hikes and threatening strikes. This is starting to smell a little bit like General Motors around late 2008.

Wtf is wrong with them.
I don't know. That industry is the wild west. We need to introduce at least some federal regulations to ensure this can never happen...

the regulators are in bed with boeing. boeing is truly a too big to fail co-opted entity. they are essentially self-regulated
So do we want regulation or less regulation? There’s a lot of folks on the right that rail incessantly about any kind of regulation. Can we agree that some regulation in certain areas is just necessary?

Here are some pics from my flight home Friday. I took these while the pilot was talking "a few maintenance issues" that were causing our delay.

Guy next to me was like "Is that MFer putting 100mph tape on the wing?"

TBH, it can make laminar flow work more efficient creating better lift and more controlled flight.

Reasonable oversight is fine. The difference between extreme regulation with the regulators in bed with industry, turning a blind eye, and no regulation is that we don't bleed tax $ out the azz for no regulations.

It also saves a lot of time when you forgot that special screwdriver back on the hanger workbench and want to cover those scary looking empty screw holes... (let's hope that was "400 mph" tape)... 🙈

On an RJ... Lets bump that to at least 600mph tape. JUST to build a wee bit of safety factor. But I'm right there with ya!

How that Pilot got that plane totally inverted, just in time, during what is probably an amazing about of sudden cross wind, is honestly amazing. It was their only chance. He/she should be admired, but we all know that he/she will be scapegoated no matter.
Who ever that pilot is, should be able to sleep proud that they saved lives, even though their carrier is over and stories will be told for decades, to save Delta's Admin.
Shit like this doesn't happen often and impossible to actually plan or train for. No matter the fault that will be found, there is some praise to be celebrated at the same time.

Yeah, and The Kid Down the Hall wants us to go to Octoberfest in Munich this year.

Me: “Can we drive?”
Hey, seriously - if you go, let me know. Last time I went was in 2014 and I'm due to go back.

If you've never been, I can offer some advice. There's more to see in Munich than the Oktoberfest and if you're going all that way, you might as well see as much as you can.
