First team out according to Lundardi

This team will be so rattled by the crowd and probably about four three pointers from Purdue in the first few minutes the game will be over fast. I honestly do not get how anyone thinks we can go into that enviroment and hang with them. Its not being negative it is simply reality. We are mentally weak and Purdue will be out for blood.

Because from a defensive standpoint, we actually matchup extremely well with Purdue. Yeah if Purdue hits 5 three’s to start the game and the crowd goes nuts, it’s going to be a long day. But you act like that’s a given. It’s not.

IU offensively is obviously going to have to some shots to stay in it, and TJD can’t spend 30 minutes on the bench in foul trouble, but Purdue is an abysmal defensive unit and guys like X and Rob can make life hell for their guards. We saw it in the first meeting.

You’ve already stated you aren’t going to watch to another poster in this thread…so why the hell do you care anyway?

yep he puts his head down and drives right 80% of the time. X has the physicality to guard him, but that choice would likely land him on the bench in foul trouble most of the game.

PS can't cover him. No lateral quickness. Ivey's eyes will pop if he sees PS squaring up against him. Not sure Leal would do better, but that's another 5 fouls we have to use.

As for Kopp....you did see what Harper Jr did to Kopp in the first play of the RU game? Like Kopp's feet were nailed into the floor.

This is where not having Galloway hurts. I said to another poster, but this is a spot where you put Phinisee on Ivey. He’s smart and savvy enough to know when to concede, but also a capable enough defender to limit Ivey without fouling every possession. Keep Ivey under 20 and Edey/Williams under 25 and we got a shot. Purdue hasn’t won a game this in which they haven’t eclipsed 70.

I am not watching tomorrow but I still want us to win I just am realistic. I would not waste me time on this board if I wanted IU to lose and miss the NCAA. I just know there is not much of a chance at all tomorrow given everything we know. It does not matter if we match up good it is in a hostile enviroment against a team we rushed the court against on their senior night. Oh and they have lost two in a row. They are going to be fired up and out for blood. It is like saying we are going to win two or more games in the BTT. It simply is just a little crazy is all. I do not want to be proven right tomorrow and would be happy if I was wrong but I just do not see a close game.

what is embarrassing?
These over the top predictions (verbatim)

TJD will get his 2 fouls by 4 minutes into the game.
Durr will come in and get three fouls in four minutes.
This might be the game Johnson gets kicked out.
X will shoot like 3 for 18.
We will go like 5 or 13 from the free throw line.
5 dunks by Edey.
5 3 s by Sasha.
3 3s by Ivey. 3 dunks by Ivey
6 3s between them for the trio of Gillis, Thompson & Hunter.

Are any impossible? No. But people seem to be expecting a 94-29 loss, when PU is favored by 4 at home.

I sincerely doubt X goes for 3 for 18 as he's actually been our best outside shooter the past couple weeks. As for getting kicked out, I certainly hope not, but he has been pushing it and the environment tomorrow will be a challenge.

As for your other bullet points, I think those are all based on actual past results, so any one of them is possible again (but obviously not most/all). And I think the 4 point line was bad data and will be revised later today.

No one is expecting a 50 point loss. But anyone who is surprised if we lose by 15-20 has not been paying attention, or spending too much time in the sunshine.

4 semi final apperances in 27 years. And keep in mind in many years to make the semis they only had to win one game. I am not even sure why we show up we all know how it will end. I honestly do not even bother watching anymore because the outcome is already done. Its one and done and at best one win max.
Here is IUs BTT history in one short video.

Its unfortunate that team had to go play...Arkansas was it?...after that. Because that would have been the most appropriate, almost poetic, way for that team to end their season.

What a damn dumpster fire that was. I'd take how this season is ending over that crap any day of the week. And that's assuming we lose the next 2 and miss the NCAA.

Still feel bad for DJ White and Eric Gordon. That team was not only loaded, but very deep and they flat quit when Sampson was fired. The team had the 1-2 punch to do some damage in the tournament that year had things been different.

ok this is painful to watch.

Looking back now...was DJ on the court for that last play? You would think we would want our tallest guy in the middle of that jump ball...but I don't see him anywhere.

Maybe guarding the inbound pass?

Cmon man. Don’t question things. We had the best coach in the history of sports on the sidelines. Don’t you listen to Indy talk radio?

What is the old saying death, taxes, and IU making an early exit in the BTT

IU is 13-23 all time in the BTT, the third worst record among B1G teams. If the B1G had relegation, IU would have been kicked out long ago. We are one of the lower tier teams in the B1G now with a low tier athletics department that doesn't really care about winning.

So what would you do if you were AD to show you "really care about winning"?

Hire a coach with a history of winning at the collegiate level. Pitino, Marshall, Pearl, Drew would all suffice.
That kind of seemed like the logial thing to do last April but the old IU guard got its way. It was an IU guy or bust for the Quinn Buckner crowd. Kind of seemed like the logial thing to do when we hired Archie as well but we went with a mid major guy who had one lucky NCAA run.

Hiring Pitino or someone like him would instantly end my 52 year run as an IU fan

Is Sparty locked into the 8th seed? See they are tied with Michigan at 10-9 with Michigan owning the tie breaker. But Michigan is on the road to Ohio State while Sparty is at home to Maryland. Michigan would fall to the 8th in the event they lose while Sparty takes the 7th.

I think it's better that we play Michigan. It will have meant Michigan lost this weekend and further moves them down on the bubble and then loser of IU/Michigan is all but eliminated from contention.
Playing around with the mred B1G seed calculator, it looks like Michigan is #8 unless they win Sunday and Michigan State loses at home to Maryland. I agree the loser of an Indiana/Michigan matchup would probably be out. You might have a chance still if you pull the upset tomorrow. Michigan sliding to 16-15 would be toast.

Yes that was on the caveat that we lost to Purdue tomorrow which I think will happen. IU loses to Purdue but beats Michigan, still think they need to win another to feel safe but agree loser is out pretty much regardless.

Not saying I would have wanted this, with how it would have been achieved... But if we had turned our heads on the phone stuff, and the indiscretions of the players, Sampson and that team very well might have hung a banner that year. The phone stuff was basically BS...the types of kids and their behavior, which later came to light, was the actual problem. I often wonder what a vacated and/or stained 6th banner would feel like though?!

If IU can lose to Rutgers on Sr night at home, PU can lose to IU tomorrow.

It all comes full circle.

If not, then I'll see you in the BTT finals.

Probably right. That was the Memphis/Kansas year right? Not sure we'd have beaten either of those teams.
Who knows, but DJ White and Eric Gordon was as good of a 1-2 punch in the country and we all know Sampson can coach.

Who knows how they would have done but they did flat out quit when their coach was fired. I think we were like 22-3 when he got fired. The genius of IU I tell you.

While we are at it lets just say IU wins five straight and hangs it's first BTT banner and upstet wins over Michigan, Wisconsin, eetc.

I don't think we would have won it all. DJ White was 6'7-6'8" at best and Lance Stemler and Mike White didn't provide nearly enough size. But a FF was possible.

So a cheater or abuser? OK, at least your honest about it. But even beyond that, Pearl just signed for life. Drew turned us down last year. Pitino is going to be 70. That leaves Marshall, a 60 year old with zero P5 experience that resigned for alleged player abuse. Not sure if he's the answer.

You ain't cheating you ain't trying. Look at UNC, Kansas, Arizona, UL, etc. The NCAA has made it very clear that they don't give a f***. Why should we?

Exactly but we would rather lose with class. It will always be the IU way. Arizona is top three team it is as if the Sean Miller stuff never happened to them. The NCAA does not care.

But are we really losing with class? Woody already had to suspend 5 guys. Crean had numerous issues including a player getting drunk and nearly running over another.

We
There will be a few key moments where we'll have to weather the Mackey/Senior Day/Revenge game emotion... Start of the game. End of the game. And obviously times when they hit a few shots in a row, or Ivey gets a dunk or something. If we can answer those moments well, we'll have a shot. If not, they'll blow us out.

I don't think Purdue is a ton better basketball team than IU. But they do finish games better, they do have an NBA level playmaker on the perimeter, and then all the above factors will weigh in. Its just a very, very tough task. But this isn't like beating the 76 Hoosiers on the road.
We ain't beating Purdue. Even if we hang in there we will surely blow it at the end per usual. This team could not close a wide open door with everyone trying.

This upcoming UM at OSU game is very intriguing. OSU should have lost to IU, did lose at MD, lost at home to Nebraska, but went out and won at Illinois and handled MSU easily. Just crazy up/down.

UM meanwhile had been looking pretty good until last night’s loss at home to Iowa, having blown out MSU and Rutgers and a road win at Iowa. IDK what the line on this one is, but based on the last 2 week’s results, I’d stay a way from this one. I believe OSU won round 1 in AA.

So if I’m reading it correctly, a UM win and a MSU win, then IU plays MSU? And a MSU win, UM loss combo and it’s UM playing IU, is that correct?

Unfortunately One common elixir for struggling BT teams lately (MSU, Rutgers, Northwestern and OSU) seems to be Having IU on the schedule to get right and a W.

Ok. So we cheat. Who you hiring? Those 4 would not be options as I stated. So, who are you hiring? And don't say Oats or Musselman. They said no already. Give me the name of that sure fire winning coach that wants to leave a great situation to coach a mediocre program?

I know you’re not watching, but good news. Purdue isn’t up 50 after the first TV time out. They haven’t hit five 3’s nor is it a dunk fest. No foul trouble. All this considering a hostile crowd. Breathe easy.
