Fall Practice Starts Tomorrow

Ya there was a gameplan change with the QB change but it was the attitude change of the OL that stood out and caught my lying eyes. That had everything to do with the change in leadership coaching the position.

I saw it with my own eyes. I actually go to the games and watch them. Dexter played vs. Ohio State. They had tape on him.
And he barely got the snap from center on that game. If you weren’t able to see how they greatly pared down the playbook to help him, I can’t help you.

I know they did but you said Carey didn't make a difference which is a clueless statement.
Tell me exactly what RC did. I like him, by the way, but the notion that he had some material impact in the last three games isn’t well founded.

Look at Caleb Jones. Third team Big Ten his freshman year. By the time he was a senior I believe he graded out as the worst blocker on the starting line.

The consensus was that he was not going to be drafted and that was what happened. But with less than one year of coaching in the Green Bay Packer organization he was wearing a Green Bay Packer uniform and playing in NFL games. So much for player development.

I just told you what he did. They played harder and longer to the whistle. He got them on the sled every day in practice and built better habits and effort. He said that publicly that the players asked him after the first week if they were going to be on the sled every day. He told them yes. We ran for 257 yards vs. MSU. Off to good start vs. PU with no passing game in both games.

“They played harder” isn’t really an answer, but I understand the sentiment.

Don't know if it is my equipment or my ears but it was next to impossible to hear BB. After listening 3 different times I think I heard enough to get the drift. Seems to me ifen you're a journalist to lazy to write about a matter you'd at least be interested in your product enough for it to be easy to use. The visual is absolutely worthless, as it is the audio that's drawing opinions. Poor use of 21st century TECH.
Yes a good audio tech would have turned up the volume … and perhaps had his own mic at the podium.

Friday presser CTA and CPR comments

https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2023/8/4/football-quoted-fall-camp-edition-defensive-line

Randolph thinks IU will start the year with good DL depth given the versatility several DLs who can play both inside and outside. Last year’s DL prize recruit James gets a mention.

CTA comments first on some of this year’s highly regarded newcomers. Then praises #1 D-Mac. If the newcomers are underrated, as some here suspect … we may may be much improved.

The incoming LBs look like an upgrade over last year’s squad, and are expected to lead IU’s defense.
https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2023/...023-position-preview-linebacker?_gl=1*khqzna*

Chad may have the depth to send them in waves this year. Some newcomers like the attacking philosophy. IU doesn’t have two gap talent and needs to attack in the one gap scheme used.

Thought it was interesting that they left him off this initial roster. Have heard his status is iffy, at best.
Just curious but is Sampson James still on the team? I didn’t see his name on the roster. Thanks

There's nothing curious about this. James has quit football because of injuries but is still with the team kind of in a GA type roll.

Cam Knight is doing the same thing.

Heard about Cam in June but the James stuff was iffy as of a couple f weeks ago, so good to know the update.

It was Wilt’s turn at the mic today. Wilt will again patrol the sideline this season. The portal talent was heavy with transfer LB‘s to run with Aaron Casey, a sideline to sideline LB.

In 2021, DC Warren chose to play more man … apparently, the new DBs on the roster will be playing more zone in 2023.

Jacob got with his own SI feature.

with sideline to sideline talent highlight reel

IU has a 240 lb LB who ran 300 m hurdles in HS. Casey is fast too. IU won’t get out run to the sideline.

Jacob is prepping for BiG physical play. Says he played more man coverage at Stanford.

Josh won’t start in front of Aaron and Jacob … Made 73 tackles (11 starts) at Austin Peay. Made 5 v. Alabama. Would you prefer a RS So with no starts and say dozen tackles at a key backup?

Josh Rudolph: I chose Indiana because Coach Allen was the first P5 (Power 5) coach to really believe in me and tell me his plan for me. I believed in that and that's why I chose to come here.

On the quarterback front, Coach Allen has made it clear that there’s no front runner. Would now think the leash for whoever starts will be short, and that both are likely to play early and often to see if one of them separates from the other under live conditions. Not sure this is a bad thing as BS was ahead of DW until both got onto the field, then DW obviously jumped over him.

Another position “battle” of real impact is kicker, and that one is concerning. CC was pretty reliable for us and it’s a big question mark heading into the season.

Later that night, a walk-on LB gets a scholarship. Great story,

Matt was injured in HS and didn’t get any D1 offers. Stepped into the rotation when Cam was injured. And, apparently, cannot be kept off the field.

“Everyone in the building, from Allen to Wilt, and even former Indiana linebacker Cam Jones, has noticed how hard Hohlt works. They believed that he was due for a moment just like this.

"I'll do anything to help the team," Matt said Thursday, talking about his role this year. "I'm playing Stinger right now, but I can jump in and play Mike if I need to."

“Every time we would scrimmage, it was, ‘Okay, this guy has a knack for the ball,’” Allen said during the 2022 season. “And to play linebacker, it's about leadership and production. He just produced.”

IU won’t run out of LBs this year.

Edge talent appears to be a positive story too between Myles Jackson, Lanell Carr Jr and Andre Carter
Last year when Casey lined up at Bull he made a bee line for the ball in the backfield.

You are wrong once again and I am ready to put you on ignore again if you keep it up.
I’m asking for your views as to what he did. I think you’re discounting the change in our offensive approach necessitated by a change at quarterback and the impact it had overall.

The OL played much better under Coach RC and with a better QB that was assigned to third team with no real instructions. IU won the game because of the routes Bell called but why not earlier in the year?

Yes, I think RC got some momentum in OL performance that Bostad is leveraging. Just a glimmer of confidence from the MSU and PU games, should make the OL seek more success. We won’t see tackles in 2 pt stances.

More Quotes from the Thursday Night festivities

"This guy, he gives it every time he steps on that field," Wilt said addressing the team. "I want this guy in the foxhole with me because I know he's going to have my six, he's got my back. This guy is one of the ultimate warriors, competitors when you look at him -- Matt Hohlt."

Allen reiterated much of what Wilt said before announcing the news to the entire team: "Matt knows what I think about him, he's a pretty special dude. We've never had a walk-on make that wall (Swarm D), and you know what, we still haven't because he's going to be put on scholarship!"

Hohlt was also revealed as Indiana's fourth player named to its 'Swarm D' wall, which is given to select defensive standouts throughout the season. Hohlt joins sixth-year defensive back Noah Pierre, sixth-year linebacker Aaron Casey and redshirt junior outside linebacker Myles Jackson as the honorees thus far.

Nice to have a road trip dress rehearsal… for kickers … receivers … kick returners … footwear …

I Don’t recall hearing Wilson doing that when he lost to Lembo … Lembo clearly rehearsed the pregame warmups, too.

IU should have sent the Marching 100 too. I watched the B-town sounds bus unload.
