I know you get wood for all things Trump, but watch the long game on this one. You will see allies start to work together to push back on trade by forming alliances that exclude US.

You know other countries are allowed to have pride and want to "win" too.
I do think the long game here will be similar to Trump's first term. Almost no one involved with this administration will have much of a political reputation/career when this is all said and done. Ramaswamy being pushed out of DOGE and sent back to Ohio will probably be a blessing in disguise for him.

he's not a real thinker, just follows
I often wonder if anything will ever get through to someone like that guy. Like, three years in when we're all royally screwed over by Trump's tariffs and Musk taking a machete to the federal budget will people like him still be blaming Biden, Harris and Obama?

I'm certain Trump will be doing that, so I'm guessing guys bailey will too.

I’m going to say we really don’t know what will happen. Not in my 50 years have I seen anything comparable.

Canada is talking all tough but they wont last long.
We import a lot of oil from them and the border states get a lot of electricity from Canada so if they wanted to they could hurt us. I don't understand what Trump is hoping to accomplish.... what's his beef with Canada? The tariffs are just an indirect tax on us and Canada will stick a tariff on all of our stuff.

I just listened to President Trump and can’t understand from that what Trump actually wants from Canada.

A citizen should stay informed of the issues but not believe anything on either the mainstream media or social media.

Instead invest in a Ouija board and come to The Water Cooler daily.

Also, obey the law, pay your taxes without obviously cheating, and serve on a jury if called.

Yes, but avoid wanting a special outcome such as will DJT resign.

Doing the Ouija board or tarot cards requires being at least a little tipsy for best results according to my psychic☺.

P.S. My psychic also happens to be one of my porch neighborhood party buddies.

That's good enough for me

I have to admit, I find our hot takes on tariffs to be at the very least inconsistent. On the one hand, we say they are an indirect tax on domestic consumers, but on the other hand, we are worried about retaliatory tariffs by other countries - wouldn't they just be indirect taxes on their own consumers that don't hurt us?

Maybe tariffs don't only hurt domestic consumers. Maybe they also hurt foreign producers. And therefore help domestic producers. Maybe the purpose of the tariffs is something entirely different than what we are led to believe.

They do both. You end up hurting your consumers in favor of your domestic producers in that area. So does the other country.

I also think that a country putting tariffs on another country is so that with the hire tax, that in theory means less business for that category (I'll call it a company) that the tariff is put on. Less business means less profits which trickles down to possible job loss since they're not as busy.

I would assume (maybe incorrectly) that the purpose is to make domestic producers more competitive with the countries that we are putting tariffs on and encouraging companies to move their production back to the US. I can see that with China but Canada I just don't get. I think the statement of yours I quoted is exactly what the purpose is. But like you said it hurts both the people in this country but all the country that retaliates.
