The debt ceiling is a dysfunctional relic that should be jettisoned TODAY.
It does nothing to limit spending. It's only result is to bring about chaos. It does nothing to reduce spending, does not reduce the deficit and does not encourage fiscal responsibility. Rather, it creates economic chaos, political brinkmanship and damages American credibility. It routinely fails to prevent the excesses it pretends to remedy. It is little more than a political cudgel, a stage for partisan theatrics.

Great goose stepping. Your form is impeccable.

The way DC works, they will fix this problem by simply renaming it. Temporary Debit Target ?? Adjustable Debit Goal?? The "Movable Debit Goal Post"?

Amazingly, or maybe not so amazingly, there seems to be no awareness that it’s the MAGA Republicans who have threatened to shut down the government rather than increase the debt limit. They actually did it in 2018. Now Trump wants to get rid of it and the most loyal sycophants jump to attention, salute, and flip their positions (if they even remember them).

Everyone wonders why we dare call it a cult. Threads like this prove our case.

Yes. We have a debt ceiling, yet somehow the country is $36 Trillion in debt. The reach-arounds, in their finest faux-terror pearl clutching personae, are bleating about the impending 'government shutdown'..

Where's the catastrophe in that?
A few days without mewling non-essential bureaucrats, or continuing to shove $Trillions of borrowed dollars into the maw of a bloated federal behemoth, laden with needless pork projects and graft?
I'll take the shutdown any time.

You’re going to see the same thing when the House pubs advocate for longstanding Dem policies. The Dems will vote against them

Steve Bannon wants to go after the wealthy and corporations to raise more tax revenue. How long until we start seeing Republicans in Congress arguing for higher taxes:

Now, of the four and half trillion dollars in revenue we get, how much is from corporate taxes? Only $500 billion. Since 2008, $200 billion has gone into stock repurchases. If that had gone into plants and equipment, think what that would have done for the country. I’m for a dramatic increase in corporate taxes. We have to increase taxes on the wealthy. For getting our guys’ taxes cut, we’ve got to cut spending, which they’re gonna resist. Where does the tax revenue come from? Corporations and the wealthy. And when they start squealing, we have a conversation. We’re all partners in this, everybody’s going to take a little pain, but the working people are going to take less pain than you guys.

This is the last days of the long con. The first six months of the second term is going to be politics like you’ve never seen before.

Sadly, you're right, but a lot of this is just standard partisan hackery. But suddenly out of nowhere realizing the debt ceiling is horrible for only the reason that Trump says so? That's not hackery. It's sycophancy.

Trump should double down on industrial investment…make the Democrats vote against it.

I think it’s essentially useless as this point because the GOP hasn’t been fiscal conservatives for 20+ years now and fold every time. To be fair 90% of the people who vote for them aren’t either. And liberals are worthless socialist tits on almost everything. However, I’d prefer keeping it so I can b#tch occasionally about our deficits and at the GOP.

The debt ceiling isn't a meaningful fiscal tool. It doesn't limit spending at all. All it amounts to is a self-imposed political torture device Congress masochistically saddled itself with.

It is a self-destruct button that should be eliminated. Over the years, people on the far right have begged for the opportunity to press it. Now they fear some may press it under Trump's watch.

It needs removed. The children we elect should not be allowed near anything as dangerous.

Guess you're in a cult now Marv...
